Well, since there are those on this forum who have access to the rarest of the rare, I heard that the complete uncut version of "Lady Frankenstein" was released on Swedish video many years ago...at least, that's what the claims at imdb.com say.

I've never seen the film yet, but I do know that Dick Randall was a co-financier as well as co-writer, and that Mel Welles directed the film. It was released in a cut version by Roger Corman and his New World Pictures...he removed 15 minutes of footage, which was present in both the Italian and English International releases.

Has anybody ever seen the Swedish video...or on any other label for that matter? And was the Swedish video in English with subs?

the swedish vhs is on ESSELTE(ARNOLD) lable , and is a gorgeous release, but from what i've been told the print is the same as the swedish theatrical version so it may be slightly cut........

either way it's one awesome collectable and one of the most sought after vhs tapes from sweden and there was a MINT one on the tradera auction site that went for 3500 swedish kroner......

The german VHS release on Heeres / C&T was sligtly cut comapared to a german TV screening in 2007 ( I think the killing of Herbert Fux + the love scene in the end sequence were missing on the tape!) . This print should be 11:05 Min longer than the US DVD .

I found a comparison of the US DVD + the german TV screening .

The red typed scenes were missing in the german print but were intact on the US DVD ( 1:48 min ).

I hope this is helpful in some way , that swedish print might be the most complete VHS version wink.gif

Love that movie ... cool.gif

here's an intersting tidbit of info....the swedish film censorship site, containing the cuts to the swedish theatical release , which is rumored to have been the source for the esselte release...and many times and on many labels the swedish theatrical releases r the versions used for video...
the individual films don't link, so click on the link and go to "film" and type "lady frankenstein" for the review on the swedish theatrical release...the cuts r in swedish but i added the english translations below the link for the cuts, i'm not 100% saying the theatrical print was used for this particular video release, but it's food for thought !

This is one of those movies I love and means a lot to me (it was the first Rosalba movie I saw on tv years ago). I've tried to learn about the differences in the various versions. I believe it is true that the Swedish vhs version is the longest vhs release. It's longer than the U.S. vhs and dvd releases. Years back, Craig from ETC made a composite of the Swedish and U.S. vhs versions to come up with a even longer version. There is information about it in a back issue of Video Watchdog.

And the big thing that has had me waiting for over four years now, what I heard was Buio Omega Film Club in Germany is supposed to be releasing the restored version on dvd (they are distributed by Anolis). Over the past four years I've emailed them a few times to see if there's any new information about it, but nothing. A year ago I emailed Anolis and they said it was a Buio Omega thing so they didn't know when it would come out. Last Christmas I tried emailing Buio Omega, but I didn't get a reply. I figured since they showed the restored version on German tv in 2007 that there was a good chance it would be coming soon, but I haven't heard anything. Man, talk about a dvd I've had on my most wanted list for a long time!

So is there any news of an uncut/restored version? And which dvd version is the best one at the moment? Thanks.

Thanks Kurt. But I was wondering which one is the best one. I just had a quick look at Amazon.com and I counted TEN different dvd releases of the film. And that's not even counting the one you linked to. blink.gif
