lol...not that I would say such things, of course! lol

Yeah, DON'T ANSWER THE PHONE started getting some screenings on satellite here in the UK last year sometime. Letterboxed print, but i believe it is cut. Very dry version, but i seem to recall hearing that the DVD version released was uncut but fullscreen due to a letterboxed version not being available from the director or something? Could be wrong. So, may be worth recording and keeping...then again, it does SUCK...so maybe NOT! tongue.gif

Nice to see The Horror Channel broadcast HELL HATH NO FURY! They gave it an '18' rating, but i don't believe this one has been passed by the BBFC? I reckon The Horror Channel people use the BBFC ratings system as a guideline and basically show what they want. At the end of the day, the BBFC doesn't have any powers over TV as it is not their juristiction. The ITC are the 'nanny group' for television and so The Horror Channel seem to throw in the odd couple of naughty films from time-to-time. Stuff like I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE has been shown, but can legally be broadcast anyway as it has now been officially passed by the BBFC in a heavily cut version so the ITC legally can't really refuse it. And as for films still banned, well...i'm not sure where the legality lays. The Horror Channel screened MOTHER'S DAY a while back (which seemed uncut) and as far as i know this title has still not been given a reprieve from the Government's 'Video Nasties' list or resubmitted to the BBFC. However, my BELIEF is that they probably felt they could get away with showing it as the version shown was uncut and not the cut video versio that was banned back in the 1980s here. BBFC policy over the years has been that they can pass a film that is on the DPP's 'Video Nasties' list if they feel it is harmless now and also as long as the film is not released in the version it was banned in. This complex little piece of ideology is basically saying that if the film is deemed by the BBFC to be ok to release now, it still can only be released if it accepts a some token cuts (even just a few seconds) or is released in a longer edit or even in widescreen format! Bizarre as that sounds, i have read interviews with BBFC examiners where that has been stated! So, maybe The Horror Channel felt that they couldn't suffer a backlash from the law becase they were going by the BBFC's work-method and screening it in a clean, remastered and uncut version as opposed to the fullscreen, cut and grainy old pre-cert video version?!

Not sure about HELL HATH NO FURY, though. Maybe they are just going to push the boundaries a little over coming months until the ITC wakes up and steps in!

For those of you who may not have seen the film or heard of it, it is an anthology and quite extreme at times, moreso in the final story, "Torched". TORCHED was actually a short film made by FX-artist Ryan Nicholson a couple of years ago that grabbed some attention for it's unrelenting (and intelligent) approach to violence and unflinching depiction of revenge (and its repercussions!). I have had this short for a couple of years now and think it is an awesome little firecracker of a film. I heard a while back that plans were being made to film new footage that would lenghthen it into a feature, which i felt would be a bad idea as it would lessen the impact of the original material and drag it out. I was not looking forward to it, because i was sure the pace would lag, the intensity (so apparent in a short film) would be watered down from expanding it and the film would soon be forgotten. Best to leave it alone, i thought, and allow it to gain its status as a short film people will always remember and regard highly...
Instead, it turns out that Ryan Nicholson wasn't the person expanding it...nor was TORCHED being turned into a feature. Instead, someone decided to create an anthology. Nicholson was hired to provide FX duties on some of the other stories (his work is very realistic and uncomfortable to watch, especially in his own TORCHED!) and a couple of other people directed stories, which had the usual wraparound segments holding it all together. In all honesty, though, it doesn't work for me. There are some interesting little storie segments and some splashes ot gore or grimness, but none of them come anywhere NEAR to comparing to Nicholson's TORCHED and as such the anthology seems like a weak attempt to ride the coat-tails of that incredible short. And it would be a crime if the only way TORCHED is made available is lost among this anthology film that people will see as another generic indie-cheapie. It's not bad...but it is very flat and only kicks into gear when TORCHED comes up at the end and shakes the viewer by the throat...
Amazig, though, that The Horror Channel screened this with all the, erm...well...if you haven't seen it, then i don't want to spoil the surprises of Ryan Nicholson's "Torched" for you... wink.gif
