I went a 100 kilometres to my friend Henrik Larsen's place yesterday to pick up a big box of Turkish bootleg vhs tapes. Henrik is moving away and doesn't wanna bother with all them damn tapes so I'm getting them. wub.gif Will have to go back before he moves cos there were simply too many (ex-rentals too) to carry on the train in one go. There were a few non Turkish tapes as well and I watched one of them last night, TARZAK AGAINST THE LEOPARD MEN (Italy, 1964). Good fun!

Check the cover on Lars Jacobsson's blog:

Lucky bastard! What did you come away with?

Uh, actually I'm not quite sure yet as to what the "Turkish box" contains + half of the tapes are still at his flat. The one Turkish ex-rental I got (well, paid for! I got the boots for free) is this one:

THE BOY WHO KNEW TOO MUCH aka Little Eyewitness

A quite enjoyable and violent film that stars the lovely Filiz Akin and that annoying kid Ilker Inanoglu. cool.gif

My gawd! I discovered that one of the tapes containes UK's channel 4's English subtitled broadcast of Kara Murat: Fatihin Fermani (1973) aka Karamurat: The Sultan's Warrior. I've just watched it and it's just as good as Kara Murat seyh gaffar'a karsi (1976) wub.gif which I raved about here:

not a very good month for me, only went to the cinema occasionally

Whatever Works (2009) very nice little Woody Allen flick, doesn't take itself too seriously and is all the better for it
2012 (2009) incredible special effects... which are the only reason to watch this... well the idea is kinda fun too but of course it's all reduced to action set pieces and silly cliché.
The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009) made for teenage girls but when there are vampires and werewolves I want to see it. The story is preposterous, the wolves are kinda cool though.
Ninja Assassin (2009) made for teenage boys but written by a todler it seems. It does earn points for being very bloody though.
Komt een Vrouw bij de Dokter (2009) a hit in Dutch cinema. very wellmade tearjerker about a woman dying from cancer and her cheating husband.
Night of the Creeps (1986) the only tape I watched, didn't impress me too much, maybe I should have seen it at the time / when I was young.

today I catched up though by watching a few cult items I recently got:

Nave de Los Monstruos, La (1960) The Ship of Monsters It's got very cool monsters, women in bathingsuits, singing and dancing... so fun all round. Ocasionally it does get a bit tedious though because it's all so old fashionedly slow and silly.
Goketsu Jiraiya (1921) I think I finally found the oldest ninja movie!! based on a popular folk tale, silent and only about 20 minutes long so it doesn't give much story to delve into. But when you see a guy turn into a giant toad during a big fight scene in a movie from 1921 than that's the only reason you'll need to watch this movie!! incredible stuff
Shinobi no Shu (1970) A Band of Ninja beautiful black and white cinematography and ninja in the original Japanese style are the two main things to enjoy in this movie, but the story get's a bit convoluted and leaves a few threads open ended
Ninja hicho fukuro no shiro (1963) Castle of Owls the same can be said for this one (although the cinematography is in color here) and there are even some of the same characters in this movie (so it helps if you know the stories these movies are based on already, which I don't). The destruction of the Iga ninja clan discussed in Shinobi no Shu is actually seen at the beginning of this movie. A lot of convolution here again with double crossings all over the place. I also couldn't keep good track of some of the characters (as in "wasn't that guy killed a few scenes ago?" and so on) but the drama and acting in this one has a lot more impact, the action set pieces are also really impressive (certainly considering the time the film was made) so I enjoyed this one immensly

Chain gang woman- nice sleazy flick

Spasmo- rewatch...

The last horror film- insane!!!! biggrin.gif

1968 Tunnel rats- on Bluray...kinda enjoyed it but this one doesn't get the best reviews I recently read.

Met grote bljdschap- Dutch movie about a couple hiding in the woods with their mentally insane kid. Drama film which entertained me.

Wild policeman- great Italian crime/ police flick

2012- boy was I disappointed sad.gif FX were cool but too massive to look real. The drama was way over the top and all kinda little situations throughout the film made it look ridiculous.

Night of the seagulls- rewatch....

Desperado's op wielen aka Mad Foxes- good, good fun..... smile.gif

Blazing battle- expected a little more believing what the sleeve told me. But still enjoyable but you must not expect torture and gore.

Shark's treasure- nice cheezy action flick...recommended!

Knowing- Nicolas Cage is way out of line in this film. Must say that the sunray's destructive powers are well visualized at the end smile.gif

Sure did! Fast-paced and colorful swashbuckler made just the way you want 'em... really enjoyed it all the way through.

KingofB, you also deserve special thanks for manually cleaning up the tape for me... not many people would to that!

It was a pleasant surprise to me as well, and probably thanks to the fast pacing indeed, as I haven't yawned even once, allthough I was forced to watch it MANY times! biggrin.gif

Your unlimited enthousiasm demanded from me to at least give it a try, by far the most insane and time-consuming act of extremist VHS fanaticism I've ever performed, but reading you liked it proves it worthwhile! smile.gif
