Title: LE DONNE DELLA DOMENICA
Description: rare giallo on tv tonight

Jack J - April 6, 2007 08:54 PM (GMT)
Those of you who live in Europe and who are able to watch RAI UNO from Italy you might wanna stay up late tonight (Friday 6th) as they're going to screen the rarely seen giallo Le donne della domenica aka The Sunday Woman by Luigi Comencini from 1976.

You forgot to provide which hour, my friend...A very nice film, though not really strong. It was out on Greek VHS as you could see in the Museum !!

Jack J - April 6, 2007 10:42 PM (GMT)
According to their teletext it's on at 3:20 - 4:05 AM.

A weak one you say? Hm, okay, but I think I'll tape it anyway. It is a giallo after all

(and I'll check out your cover at the museum)

How rare is that tape in Greece for example?

cinehound - April 7, 2007 07:50 AM (GMT)
It is one of the rarest Greek tapes. In fact I'm the only one among the collectors in Greece who has it

I bought it twice about 17 years ago and -beleive me- I haven't seen it anywhere since then. I don't really know why some tapes are so rare, I guess they had a very limited release? Anyway, if someone else has it please let me know. Of course someone outside Greece should have a copy as I gave away one many years ago - I don't remember who took it actually...

I've seen it then so i don't remember the film very well. I'm sure is nothing really strong, sleazy & bloody but I keep it in the back of my head as a good giallish thriller !!

By the way Greek tape is in English. Label is Lava Films (extremely rare company!) and the quality is not good...Colours are not sharp but -worse of all- sound is very low. Both tapes I found was in that similar bad quality. A few small old Greek labels with a few releases only had bad quality sometimes... Anyway, if anyone wants a DVD-R please e-mail for a trade or something...

Μiltos is right. This tape is among the rarest in greece along with TWO FACES OF TERROR.I am searching for it for about 10 years and I have never came across it.Its a mystery to me that some tapes in greece were so rare for no reason. For a example there was a greek release of jess franco's BLOODY JUDGE in Italian language. For year I thought it was just a rumour but suddenly one day I found it in a werehouse filled with VHS.From that day I have never ever seen it again.

cinehound - April 7, 2007 08:06 AM (GMT)
Nikos, I thought only me was on line today :)

Franco's BLOODY JUDGE is also extremely rare, also his COUNT DRACULA.
I search for BLOODY JUDGE for years !!

cinehound - April 7, 2007 08:14 AM (GMT)
20 years ago I had found one of the rarest Greek tapes, DEBORAH by General Video !!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072710/

I was so stupid then that I gave it to a collector from UK (I think...)

Now the film is a ghost :ph43r:

A rather slow & bad film but an extremely rare find...

What label was The Bloody Judge with italian audio released on? The same as the one with english audio?

Jack J - April 7, 2007 01:11 PM (GMT)
After having watched the film on Italian TV last night I must admit you're right, Miltos; a 'weak' giallo! Worlds apart from the best entries to the genre. I guess watching it in Italian didn't help much either.

You asked for other people who have the org. Greek video. Look what I came about when I searched for the title yesterday: a DVD-R shop that sells copies off the Greek tape:

http://www.electric-larvae.com/giallo.html

So there's at least one more who's got it.

Yes, the best point of the film is plot & dialogues, so you should watch it in English. But as I said the low sound doesn't help a lot...

As I said I've sent one original abroad some years ago so there is at least one more collector who has it.

As for ELECTRIC LARVAE is actually...my other baby  :ph43r:

I don't remember, I.V.C._doctor has it so he could tell...
But for sure is not NEW STAR (a newer label) that released the English dubbed version. The New star tape is sell-through and easy to find even straight from the company.

Gott im himmel!!!
Do you Greek fellas all have your own dvd-r shop??? Ha ha.

The thing is, I was over at Mobius forum yesterday. I'm reading this post about Onar's new release and it's written by some guy called Lefteris and I'm going: 'hm, another Greek guy' - only to discover that it's this forum's Trash-online and that he has got his own shop too!

Maybe I should set up one too, ha ha.

What does it means?

Jack J - April 7, 2007 02:32 PM (GMT)
arh, it's just a German phrase that means 'Oh my god!'. Not that my German is particularly good or anything. <_<

It was released from VHA (Video House America). As for DEBORAH I only have seen it mentioned in a very old greek magazine for Video tapes.I never ever have seen it in front of me.Maybe the company only made about 5-6 copies?Who knows!

Jack J - April 8, 2007 05:34 PM (GMT)
I have this old thick catalogue of everything that had come out on Danish rental video by 1983. However, there are titles in it that the video companies had planned to release the same year but which were then cancelled. Some collectors searched for these titles for years until it was clear they were actually never released. Maybe the same could be the case of DEBORAH. Maybe all it's ever been is an entry in an old magazine.

Yeah it could be so,but miltos mentioned that he had it for some time then he gave it to a uk collector so its not a legend...

cinehound - April 8, 2007 10:09 PM (GMT)
Yes, it's not a legend or a deleted announcement...I bought it from Memos shop ages ago. I watched it and it was rather mediocre so I sold it for 20 GBP.

I was too young and I knew nothing, I wish I had never sold it :(

In fact I was so stupid that I didn't hold even a copy for myself. My opinion back then was "if you don't like it sell it or trade it with something better". I couldn't imagine how rare it was, in fact it was one of the first tapes I bought. I remember Memos shop had most of the Sunset/Sunrise VHS for sale still sealed, not fake bootlegs but those originals for rental. I bought all Rollin films there. The shop had tons of rarities but I bought only a few because I didn't know what the rest were about. My God, how could I be so stupid?

I remember the cover - you know General Video covers have a picture into a TV screen. It had the leading actress' face only, nothing special, but even that face alone was bizarre, with a strange look...

Greece was a paradise for impossible-to-find films in english uncut versions! You're lucky living there!

Mario - July 4, 2007 04:21 PM (GMT)
This one was released on VHS here (by Taurovideo) but as it is stared Marcello Mastroianni and Jacqueline Bisset didn't think it would be a giallo. But is it a giallo (as we know it) or just partial?

A.N. - July 4, 2007 05:16 PM (GMT)
It is a thriller in "comedy Italian style", to say so.
It is adapted from a famous Italian giallo novel, "La donna della domenica" (=The Sunday lady) by novelists Fruttero and Lucentini.
It's a good film, not a giallo like Argento and the likes, but still a good film.
