Title: VHS display

Rusty06 - May 1, 2009 01:21 PM (GMT)
We spend time and money to collect interesting tapes with the wildest covers. In my case more time than money. But they do take up a lot of room. A lot more than DVD's anyway.
I used to put them in boxes only to see the daylight when I wanted to watch one. Only very few were on display in a book case.
Although I have only a limited collection they take but when on display they take up a lot of space. I'm currently working on a displayroom. I was wondering what the rest of you choose to do with your collection. Pics are welcome as they might give me some ideas!

Haven't got too much space in my small home, but I use the space above doors and I also use shelves as "room dividers"...

Found an ol' pic of my kitchen:

Used to have shelves of tapes even in the toilet, but it got a bit too looney for the wife so I removed these :(

:D Tapes in the toiletroom? :D Cool!

Yeah, you got a nice couzy place there, kingofB!

For me, I used to have a lot in my living room but now kinda refixing everything. I want to have a few VHS rooms so I can get the tapes from the attic as well. I'm even thinking of getting me a own cinemaroom.

This is how it kinda was:

WHAT is that cartoon in your avatar? It's driving me crazy. Seems so familiar, like from a cartoon I used to watch as a kid on Nickelodian or something!

This is my movie room. I've shown some pictures before, but I added some shelves, and offcourse some tapes. I watch the movies on my beamer, that normally hangs from the ceiling.

Right on Stephen!
It's Filburt or Filbert (dunno how to spell it) from "Rocko's modern life"!

Canisius: NOW I remember! Filbert was that nerdy/neurotic turtle guy (kind of like a Woody Allen personality) on that show. GOD that show was WEIRD. And RAUNCHY. I'm amazed they allowed some of that stuff to air on Nickelodian!

*Only question: How the hell does a German guy (you are German, right? Correct me if I'm wrong...) know about such an obscure US cartoon show? I know they show some weird US shit on German TV (like Magnum PI and such), but ROCKO'S MODERN LIFE is still pretty obscure...

Yeah, I am German... B)

But you gotta know that we had our own Nickelodeon program over here until the late 90ies...back then we used to watch all those Nicktoons after school (Rocko was the best though!), smoked mass amounts of weed and simply had a good time! Damn, I kinda miss the days of old... :(

Btw, remember Heffer (he seems to be into boozing and vintage VHS nowadays! ;) )

Thanx!
I have one wall left, but I use it for projection. I'm thinking of buying a screen that I can hang from the ceiling, so I can also fill that wall with tapes to. Big decisions have to be made....

Choice has been made!
I'm going to the hardware store today and buy me some ceiling hooks, so I can hang a projectionscreen. I have room for 300 tapes more now! Thanks for the help ;)

sabre210 - May 10, 2009 10:57 AM (GMT)
I always wanted my video room to be like a video rental library, so i commissioned some pre-fromed plastic shelves to be built to show off the amazing covers of these tapes which sadly always get hidden when stored spine out.

I also bought these original 80's carousel spinners which i adore.

awesome displays ian :)

Thanks for the comments. I'm glad you like them.

When i open the door to that room it just makes me smile everytime. I also have a stand alone wooden island display i bought for about £5 many years ago. The problem is it takes up the entire room so i had to put it back into storage. One day when i get a bigger place I'm going to deck out a larger room in complete floor to ceiling plastic display shelving so i can see the covers of all these amazing old tapes.

It certainly took my breath away when i first walked in there 7 or 8 years back,Ian.
Great to see it still going strong,we'll have to link up again when i move back to London.
