Title: GENOCIDE (1968)

Well, I just watched a DVD-R of this unusual 60s Japanese sci-fi shocker called "Genocide" (1968; Japanese Title: "Konchu Daisenso"). Becuase the copy is in it's original Japanese without subtitles, it's pretty hard to follow the story as is, but "Genocide" seems to be about a woman who was locked up in a concentration camp during World War 2, but in modern day is attempting to use her psychic abilities to control insects. There are some other issues, such as the use of a nuclear bomb and military police (American? German? Hard to say...), but it's a bizarre little flick from Kazui Nihonmatsu, the director of "The X From Outer Space".

Does anybody have any info on this movie in terms of what it's all about? There are claims that the film was co-directed by a 'Norman Cooper', but this is quite odd. There are some Caucasion perfomers on display, but they are all dubbed in Japanese so it's possible that Cooper directed them while Nihonmatsu directed the Japanese cast. The film was produced at Shochiku and there are claims the company released the film in the USA in a dubbed version, so maybe Cooper handled the English release. But, an English dub has yet to turn up.

And, does anybody know about it's release in Germany, as it seems to be a popular title on VHS in that country.

It was released in Italy as L'ALLUCINANTE FINE DELL'UMANITA'. The american version apparentely as been re-edited by Norman Cooper (probably a bogus name for somebody else as in the imdb is credited only for this movie).
I remember a rather boring movie, have a jap DVD-R but don't know if custom subtitled, maybe I give it a try in the next days...

Thanks for the imput, MEGATONE. Interesting about it's Italian release; is it available anywhere in the Italian dub?

I do agree that "Genocide" is a slightly dull feature, but I atribute it to watching the film in Japanese without the aid of English subtitles, which makes it all the more frustrating to get thru. Supposidly, Criterion has aquired "Genocide" and three other Shochiku sci-fi/horror flicks "Living Skelleton" (1968), "The X From Outer Space" (1967), and "Goke, the Body Snatcher From Hell" (1968) for future DVD releases. I have asked them if there are any plans, but so far no response.

As for Norman Cooper, it's quite possible that he was responsible for altering the film for Shochiku's US release. However, there are no records of this supposed English dub having turned up at all (i.e., no English posters or ads, no trailers, hell not even a release print). Plus, while I love going to imdb, sometimes their info is sketchy on these obscure titles. It's possible Shochiku has this version, but it's not listed on their own website, so again...the mystery continues.

If anybody has any more info to contribute, I'd appreciate it.
