Description: Urban legends and reality
a_lektor - January 4, 2008 11:13 PM (GMT)
I Would like to start a conversation about Kostas Gousgounis and his films, also would like to please everybody that knows anything about him, or thinks that he knows anything to tell so me and some other gyus who are interested too, learn finally the truth about the "Teacher"!!! First i would like to ask you guys if someone, had seen any of the famous lines of Kostas Gousgounis in any movie that he played because i did not. The second thing i wanted to know is if anybody had seen another movie that Gousgounis was the leader actor that had hard -core scenes inside? except "idonovlepsias" = ("The peeping man"), Does the "big" name of Gousgounis based only in softcore films?
A.N. - January 5, 2008 02:51 PM (GMT)
Hi lektor. Where are you from?
Our friend skatschko is the leading expert about Gousgounis.
I just point out that a compilation dvd (a sort of patchwork) recently released in Greece (entitled "Pathos kai idhoni") includes some scenes performed by Gousgounis which came from his 70s films (at least one of them not yet identified. Is it right, skatschko?). By the way, his only known h/c sequences are from "O idonovlepsias".
In the early 80s he performed "live" hardcore: see the book "Greek Erotica" (Greek and English language) for more details.
a_lektor - January 5, 2008 05:46 PM (GMT)
Hi A.N. I'm from Greece. I didn't see any other post with this subject. If i'm wrong please give me a link because i would be very interested. I know about the book you mentioned, i own a copy of it too. I read inside about one live play: "Gousgounis and the lost tribe of the amazons".
From the known filmography of gousgounis -
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0729861/ - i have and have seen everything except of "Horis Idanika" and "Leoforos toy thanatou". My copies of "sex13beaufort", "o anomalos", "stin pagida toy sex kai toy eglimatos" and "diestramenoi apo ti genna tous" do not include a single hard-core scene. The dvd you said "Pathos kai idoni" is a "deception" that Leontsinis Films made with cut-scenes from "O Idonovlepsias" and some other hard-core greek 80s films. skatschko please enlight us if you see that post.
cinehound - January 5, 2008 07:55 PM (GMT)
Do you really have O ANOMALOS? What label?
I remember that glorious sex play, it ended with a police entry and arests...
a_lektor - January 5, 2008 11:34 PM (GMT)
yes my friend , i have a copy of "o anomalos" but unfortunately it's a copied dvd-r. i don't have an authentic vhs if tha's what you mean. ???Label??? The specific "sex play" (as you said), you had seen, had any hard-core scene in it?
lt79 - January 6, 2008 02:29 AM (GMT)
O Anomalos? Are you sure its actually that film? Is it the film where Gouzgounis plays an impotent killer of women?
I am asking because it was considered lost. Is your DVD-R sourced from a Greek tape?
a_lektor - January 6, 2008 02:46 AM (GMT)
Of course i'm sure. Only me knows how i hunted this film and where i have found it. It is "o anomalos" for sure. I saw the full movie. The title screens prove this also.
(

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff32/SomremiXaS/2.jpg ) And yes, my copy is in greek language.
cinehound - January 6, 2008 09:19 AM (GMT)
That play had a plot but also live sex so the police raid...
Does your DVD-R of O ANOMALOS have the label of the VHS before the credits?

Yes, of course. But it also includes at least another movie in which Gousgounis performs sex (not h/c, anyway).
A.N. - January 6, 2008 05:10 PM (GMT)
Lektor and lt79, in your opinion when exactly has "O idonovlepsias" been filmed? According to me, at the very latest in autumn 1983. What do you think?
a_lektor - January 6, 2008 11:24 PM (GMT)
According to "Greek Erotica" book and "Aystiros Akatallilon" book the "o idonovlepsias" has been filmed in 1984. I don't know something different.
A.N. - January 7, 2008 01:35 AM (GMT)
Unfortunately the dates included in the books you mentioned are not always trustworthy.
lt79 - January 7, 2008 03:37 AM (GMT)
I have e-mailed you a lektor. I'd like to trade for a copy of O ANOMALOS please. I have almost everything from Greek Cult to Greek porn, including very rare Gouzgounis films. PM me or e-mail me. thanks.
skatschko - January 7, 2008 10:15 AM (GMT)
It's very encouraging that a_ lektor has launched this essential discussion on one of the most important, yet mysterious, subjects of Greek Erotica.
Without being any "leading expert", let-alone any "expert" at all (thanks, Andrea, however, for the nice words...^_^ ), I will try to put forward and develop some thoughts initially expressed in EGAFD on the occasion of my review of "O Idonovlepsias" (http://www.egafd.com/films/details.php/id/i0474).
1. Re the h/c appearances of Gousgounis
Up to day, we are all aware that "O Idonovlepsias" (released in 1984, but most probably shot during the spring/summer of 1983, as Andrea rightfully pointed out) constitutes the unique hardcore appearance of the Master. We all know, that following the huge commercial success of this film, Gousgounis had appeared in live hardcore shows (probably in winter of 1984) hosted in Athens's Elite Cinema (at Pireos Str., nowadays Club Tessera), which belonged to famous director, producer and porn manager Nassos Spiris (Berto). Even if the number of his appearances must not have been that many as V. Yeorgas stated in his article included in Greek Erotica (that a_lektor has mentionned), it's true that hardcore performances had actually taken place (despite the occasional police raids). It's also probable that the fear of AIDS -which forced Gousgounis to retire, according to his own statements- was most probably due to his being involved in "non-protected" sex scenes, and not because of his unwillingness to shoot any other films.
It's undeniable, though, that this film could hardly represent his unique hardcore appearance. In fact, taking into account his strong performances in several erotic films during the 1970s (most particularly the ones in his erotic debut in the 1971 production Sex...13 Beauforts, a film that in my opinion actually marked the beginning of Greek Porn's "golden" era in the 1970s), that enabled his reputation to reach mythical (popular) heights, one has to wonder if he reached all this stardom, without having performed in any other hard core scenes.
We all have lots of cousins, uncles or other friends that "testified" having watched in the 1970s tsontes ('inserts') starring Gousgounis, which most certainly must have been shot on the occasion of the well known 4-5 titles he starred in (mentionned in detail by a_lektor), all of them huge successes in Greek porn cinemas during that era. In fact, even the word "tsonta" was originally identified with Gousgounis. His extremely convincing performance in "O idonovlepsias" (at an age of more than 50 !) has confirmed the legend: his passion for women, the fact that he was the first male to have been featured in full nudity in one of the 1970s erotic productions, his impressive dick measurements. This film was also shot by his "directeur attitré" since the 1970s, Chrissostomos Liambos. One should also stress out the very important fact that he was always partnerred to minor female protagonists, some of which are ranked among the "high suspects" to have taken part in hard scenes at that time. All these factors offer us a solid basis to "assume with a reasonable amount of certainty" that Gousgounis had taken part in hardcore scenes during the 1970s. This enhances of course the mystery where could these tsontes be located, and why haven't there been any decent re-releases of his 1970s titles, that could eventually include them, moreover because Gousgounis would have never opposed to their release. It's highly frustrating that the recent distribution of this patchwork title "Pathos ke idoni" used essentially material from "O Idonovlepsias". Could the 1970s tsontes have been lost? :(
2. Re the famous lines of Gousgounis
Gousgounis is also famous for being the first performer to have pronounced popular slang dialogues/lines with erotic/porn innuendoes (consisting of direct, gonzo, short sentences with few verbs and many slang words, though always accompanied with a certain 'touch' of humour). It's highly unlikely that such dialogues were pronounced in his 1970s titles. Some few were pronounced in O. Efstratiadis's sex comedy "Itan axios" (1982), some others in "O Idonovlepsias". A_lektor rightfully points out that the origin of the big majority of such dialogues/lines "attributed" to Gousgounis can't be spotted out with precision. I think that this only leaves us with two options: either some part of it was eventually said during the live appearances/shows of the Master (and not only during the 1980s, as we know that Gousgounis was often present in the 1970s in the cinemas where his films were projected: that's when the "Axios!" appraisal was pronounced for the first time!) or most of it is unfortunately a mere artificial product of popular subconscious (just like jokes), which only strengthens the Master's image/myth. Talking about urban (or rather social) legends and reality...
P.S.: Could Lefteris kindly ask Kostas Stefanakis (his recent film's protagonist and a guy that was featured several times in the 1970s alongside Gousgounis in many of his films) if he has any recollections or other related information?

I will try that, just give me some time... And I need a copy of O ANOMALOS please- Kostas has been trying to find this film for a looooong time!

I' ve just replied your e-mails guys.
A.N. - January 7, 2008 04:11 PM (GMT)
Thank you skatschko for your clear considerations. It's always a pleasure and a teaching reading them.
Regarding "Itan axios" the recent Greek dvd is apparently cut. Was this film released on vhs in a more complete version?
lt79 - January 7, 2008 04:53 PM (GMT)
The VHS of ITAN AXIOS certainly runs longer but I can't remember what's missing from that VCD though, sorry.
a_lektor - January 7, 2008 10:29 PM (GMT)
Does anybody knows another book-(must have), about greek cult - trash - exploitation - erotic movies (you know what we all in here love), except from the "Greek Erotica" and "Aystiros Akatallilon" books?
A.N. - January 8, 2008 08:46 AM (GMT)
"The Greek Filmography" by Dimitris Koliodimos includes cast, credits, synopsis and occasionally comments and pictures on every feature film (except hardcore movies) produced or coproduced by Greece from 1914 to 1996. Therefore you can also find in this book the whole Greek sexploitation production you're interested in. A "must".
skatschko - January 8, 2008 09:59 AM (GMT)
Andrea is right.
You may also add -if you are able to find it, because it must be out of print- the 4th vol. of the ancient (first) edition of Yannis SOLDATOS's: History of Greek Cinema (early 1990s). In its last part, there was a detailed appendix with the tickets/entries (based on official listings) of all the Greek films up to c. 1982 (i.e. shortly before the video boom era). Soldatos has presented on a yearly basis report & in a synthetical way the main titles of every season (including a very brief presentation of the erotic ones). Actually, an essential work only for a cinema specialist or expert.
Even if (mysteriously so !) some -few- titles were missing, you do have here, however, an inventory including every single erotic film since the early 1970s & up to 1982 (implying that the "last" title listed was O. Efstratiadis's "I Eromeni"), moreover "confronted" with the mainstream titles. However, don't expect to find here any "raunchy" details or other revelations...
a_lektor - January 18, 2008 10:33 AM (GMT)
AN, The "not yet identified scenes" you said from the "Pathos kai Idoni" are from the film "O Anomalos"!
A.N. - January 20, 2008 08:02 PM (GMT)
Thanks, A_lektor.
To sum up the relationship Gousgounis-Liambos, they made 7 films together. Or at least, 7 films directed by Liambos and starring Gousgounis were regularly released:
1) Horis idanika (1965)
2) I leoforos tou thanatou (1966)
3) Sex... 13 beaufort! (In Italy L'isola dei sensi perduti, that's the exact title)
4) Diestrammenoi apo tin genna tous (1974)
5) Stin pagida tou sex kai tou eglimatos (1975)
6) O anomalos (1975)
7) O idonovlepsias (1984)
The first two movies of this list, shot in B&W, as far as I know are unaivailable on vhs. Right?
a_lektor - January 20, 2008 09:34 PM (GMT)
That's right A.N. The first two films are the only i haven't seen and i can't find. I 've learnt recently that, the first film had been sold in France, back then.
A.N. - February 10, 2008 09:02 PM (GMT)
1) According to some sources, Kostas Gousgounis was also known as Costa Rizzini (an Italian name, by the way). Do you know more about this alternative (real?) name?
2) To A_lektor. I don't think that DIESTRAMMENOI APO TIN YENNA TOUS and O ANOMALOS have ever been released in Greece on vhs (right?). Do you think that your copies come from a 35 mm. print?
a_lektor - February 12, 2008 04:08 PM (GMT)
I suspect without knowing for sure that with the alternative name "Costa Rizzini" as imdb "informs" us, must be credited in the Italian version of "Sex 13 beauforts" aka "L' isola dei sensi perduti"!!! I don't know if another film of Kostas Gousgounis's had been distributed in an Italian version! Can't you find this version anywhere? :P
As for the second question, the Greek VHS distribution is a very weird thing. But i know for sure that the company(VEP), that had distributed the Greek version of "Sex 13 beaufort" had also distributed the "Diestramenoi apo ti genna tous" in VHS (here is the proof
http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff32/So...aS/p9160660.jpg )!!! For the film " O Anomalos" i don't know, but as Miltos says nothing is impossible for the Greek distribution!!!! :D
A.N. - February 12, 2008 06:08 PM (GMT)
In the Italian version of "Sex 13 beauforts", i.e. "L'isola dei sensi perduti", our actor was credited as "Kostas Gutzkounis". The name "Costa Rizzini" is still a mystery.
The cover of the VEP is definitely a proof that also this film had been released on videocassette.

With the name "costa rizini" you asked me in the past, gousgounis is cretided by, in the german version of "L' isola dei sensi perduti" aka "Triebhaft wie die nackte lust".
A.N. - June 25, 2009 07:56 PM (GMT)
Hi a_lektor !
Very interesting info.
And do you know if this German version is longer and/or different from the Greek one?
a_lektor - July 7, 2009 12:15 AM (GMT)
Kostas gousgounis had also a very very small (one line) role, in the classic (mainstream) comedy of Greek cinema, "I Theia apo to Chicago" !!!
you can see him here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0DLtZa1Ot4This role of his, in a such a classic movie, is similar to his other older "known" participation in "Mia zoi tin echoume", where he plays the coffee-guy.

a_lektor - December 29, 2009 12:52 PM (GMT)
Gousgounis participated as a second role also in Nikos Tsiforos's movie "O LEFTAS (1958)"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0199704/ in a scene where all the people dance in stage.
He is with a girl, one of the dancing couples, appearing for 10-15 seconds, without saying any quotes in this movie!!!

In the book Greek Erotica says that owner of that cinema was Giannis Kaspiris. Is it a mistake?
And one more question. H Mazoxa, one of Nasos Spiris films was it produced at 1987 or 1997? Many sourses including imdb, Greek Erotica and gagarin cult festival said that the year is 1997. I think that this is a mistake that someone did and then all of them follow. I'm not sure, can anyone help? Also any info about that film, poster, dvd or vhs cover it would be apriciated!!
P.S. great forum and great work from all of you!!!!
