Nice one, Jared!! A cool flick and yes I like it heaps too. Actually I wrote (briefly) about it recently:

http://enlejemordersertilbage.blogspot.com/2007/11/w.html

Uhh, you forgot to mention there's also a sequel: CLASH OF THE WARLORDS. I just bought it on UK video but haven't watched it yet.

NB: I believe 'W is War' is a US re-title, and 'W' is the original title (not that it matters).

Now if Mondo Macabro would follow through to put this out. It's been in limbo with them for a while.

Jack: Thanks for the nice words pal! But how did I never notice that you had your own blog? It's pretty cool, you should keep up with it. Mine is not updated nearly enough but still gets fairly good regular daily views. But since you aren't writing a blog anymore, I entirely expect you to start submitting reviews to Worldweird. I need your expertise and wit my friend!

Linn: I hadn't heard that MM were mulling this one over. You've heard conclusively then that they at one time were doing just that? A MM S.E. of this gem would be most welcome!

Well, buddy, I guess you looked the other way when I so bluntly announced it a little while back, LOL.
'Expertise and wit'? Huh? Aye? Me?
Thanks, Jared. I'll be happy to do something for Worldweird soon, maybe I'll do a piece on... no, I'll tell you later

And although your last comment is for Linn I'm sure he would say; 'Hell yes, MM shouldda get dis out on a spiffy double disc with da sequel pronto'!!! :D

I tried your "post in greek"...but it was all greek to me :P

cinehound - December 27, 2007 11:16 PM (GMT)
The Greek VHS of W IS WAR (it has another release also but this is the best cover)

cinehound - December 27, 2007 11:20 PM (GMT)
And the Greek VHS of CLASH OF THE WARLORDS (but are you sure is a sequel to W?)

Thank you, Miltos. I guess I'll just be a forumite (is that even a word?) instead of a blogger. Too much work.

Yeah, well, as one character puts it in Twin Peaks: 'We are all Greek'
(actually he said 'Icelanders' but what the hell).

Nice scan!

Here's my own Japanese VHS:

No, I'm not sure about that at all. I also frequent another forum (altho it's no way near as nice at Cinehound, of course!) and we have a thread on Filipino films and someone just mentioned it here:

http://www.dvdmaniacs.net/forums/showthrea...72&page=4&pp=15
(go halfway down)

There's also some other, alternative video scans of the two movies.

German Release is 90s longer than the JP VHS, which is missing the opening prologue about atomic Bombs and WWIII...

Jack J - December 29, 2007 09:22 PM (GMT)
Bummer! :(

I wonder if the American VHS is uncut.

Jack,
That is my exact quote! :) My understanding is that MM has this on the radar, but of course, the elements are not the best.

I've had a Japanese vhs for a couple of years and still haven't gotten round to watching it yet.

Mondo Pete - November 15, 2008 11:50 AM (GMT)
Not coming from us, I'm afraid. No film elements and he wanted vast sums of money. Same deal with Killing of Satan. And then some bugger nicks it and puts it out without paying him a cent. And what does he do??? NADA!!!

It's a mad world, I tell you.

Fun film, though. And has anyone noticed how often castration occurs as a plot point in Filipino films? :(

That is a mad (and sad) world! :( :(

Chris K. - November 15, 2008 10:15 PM (GMT)
I don't understand why the owner for "W is War" doesn't even have any film elements yet still asks for a lot of cash for the distribution rights? I swear, some people think their films are like an antique that's worth millions of dollars. In this case, the guy doesn't even have the film at all!

Mondo Pete - November 16, 2008 12:51 AM (GMT)
They have NTSC full frame one inch tapes.

Who on earth could ask for more??

Chris K. - November 16, 2008 04:40 AM (GMT)
Mondo Pete, were those NTSC one-inch tapes in good shape, do you know? But yeah, who could ask for more! I give you and Andy much credit for going out there and trying to find good to decent materials for the rare stuff, but it sounds better that you left that deal behind.

And, for curiosity's sake, can you reveal what materials you used for the first Bollywood horror release? I keep reading reviews saying the transfers were taken from video masters, but they look too-good for something transfered from video. "Bandh Darwaza" looks much better than the washed-out dupy clip you used on the documentary!

Inspector Tanzi - November 23, 2008 06:38 PM (GMT)
If anyone wants it i am willing to sell/trade my Japanese vhs.

The cover is mint condition with no fading on the front or spine (which seems to be quite common with Japanese tapes).

sensible offers only please

I've just checked the BBFC website and it isn't listed, i've seen the tape about and it is on a very cheap looking label so by the look of it they didn't run it through the BBFC so it could be any version.

I've seen it about a few times but never picked it up and because of that probably won't see it again for a while
