Personality:Darth Catas is as enigmatic in mind as he is in appearance. Few know of him, and as such its difficult to discern much about his mind set. So instead, I shall give you bits and pieces.
The first of these is that just as many Sith before him, Catas despises the Jedi with every fibre of his being. He would rarely pass up an opportunity that will almost certainly result in the death of a Jedi, though has shown a preference that if he could, he would take certain Jedi alive, either to convert them, or to torture and break their minds, showing their lives to be worthless and meaningless before him. However, he has made it known that he would not be foolish in fighting the Jedi. He would strike at them when they are few in number, and outside the reach of their fellow Jedi, and that of the republic.
His arrogance and pride are typical Sith nature, though he has an air of formality and manners about him that is unusual. Perhaps years of torture makes a man just that more gentlemanly? Probably not. Whatever the case, what these the galaxy does not yet know, is the extent to which he will go to achieve his goals. But they shall learn...
History: Darth Catas began existence as humble as any other. Born to simple storm trooper parents who were hiding out as part of the Empire of the Hand in its final days, his parents were killed in a surprise raid on the Imperial Vessel they served aboard in the Unknown Regions. The assailants were completely foreign and unrecognised, but such is the risk that comes with the unknown regions. The young boy managed to escape death by having been placed in an escape pod by his parents, who held off the enemy long enough for him to get away, though it was probably only delaying the inevitable. After all, he was in space, cold and alone.
However, as fate would have it, he was to survive long enough for someone to find him. A pirate of all people, on the run from pretty much any organization that had a blaster to its name. And even a few that didn't. The man at first considered tossing the brat out the airlock, but figured he could always use a slave. Even as the Yuuzhan Vong war began to wage across the galaxy, this pirate poured abuse after abuse onto a young and helpless child. He gave Kotek his name just because it would prove bothersome to simply call him 'boy' again and again, and the random name popped up in his head.
Of course, even a child will get angry enough at such abuse after far too long. And when that child has burgeoning force powers, the result is as messy as you'd expect. The guy didn't even see it coming when he suddenly found himself tossed out the window of the apartment they were staying in at the time. Kotek was nine at the time, and already a murderer with the power of the force at his disposal, even if only on a minor scale. The authorities didn't arrest him however, as they doubted a ten year old was capable of slamming an adult through fairly tough glass.
He was thrown into an orphanage, where he got on with the other kids as well as a Terentatek does Jedi. Time and again he was thrown into solitary confinement, and time and again he escaped. Eventually he snapped at one of the other children, using his powers to a similar result as he had the pirate. This time, the authorities had witnesses, and knew that there was more to this kid than what met the untrained eye. Under normal circumstances he would've been imprisoned for his crimes, but a Jedi watchman came to him, thinking they might be able to train the boy to control himself - atone for what he had done.
That didn't work out too well either.
After a year or so of travelling with the Jedi, Kotek grew more and more frustrated by the doctrines of servitude and peace. However, unlike previous cases, he did not lash out wildly, knowing he would be easily defeated if he did. Instead, he used a more subtle approach, using the opportunity to increase his intellect. He asked his master about the 'enemy' - the Sith, learning much about them. And through this knowledge, he pieced together signs of a Sith lurking about in the Outer Rim. Signs of course, that the Jedi had also noticed, but it was only with the encouragement of his pupil that they actually ventured out to find the answer.
And it was everything he hoped for. An actual sith, whose presence exuded a power and might that the Jedi would never know. The Sith battered and weakened the Jedi, Kotek delivering the killing blow from the man's side in an act of betrayal. Such an act amused the Sith, demanding to know Kotek's name. Once he got it, he beckoned the teen to follow him, and learn the ways of the Sith for himself.
Kotek returned from the Unknown Regions only years later, having been broken and remade by the Sith. Where once there was insatiable anger, there was at least restraint. A humility towards masters he still deeply fears. Trained in the art of the lightsaber, only to have his weapons taken from him for his first assignment. Trained in the ways of the force, but not to truly know its might. Trained to be a Sith, but not taught how to finish his training. Instead, his dark masters have demanded he find one of their fellow kin, who have experience in battling (and thus finding) Jedi. Jedi that he may prove himself worthy by killing. Worthy of the title that awaits him, and that title shall be: Darth Catas
