LATEST RESULT: Season Washed Out Again – 05/09/09
St Joseph’s season ended early again with yet another total wash out ruining any prospect of play in the local derby with Fulwood and Broughton. This latest ‘no-result’, amazingly the seventh this season, also ends St Joseph’s promotion hopes with a third place finish now guaranteed. Failure to claim either of the top two places this year can justifiably be attributed in no small part to bad luck with the weather. This week the pitch at Our Lady’s was heavily waterlogged so an early decision to abandon the match was reached, this being the third home game falling to the conditions. Thanks very much to all players, officials and supporters (of which their appear to be a growing number) for all their efforts throughout this season.

OTHER NEWS: St. Joseph’s ‘Drop’ To 2nd – 29/08/09
St Joseph’s managed to yet again snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, thanks mainly to an amazing sequence of dropped catches, when they visited main title rivals Freckleton. St. Joe’s were asked to bat first on a difficult looking track and the innings took time to get any real momentum, Ken Moses holding it together early on and top scoring with 34. Only when The Saints were 6 wickets down did the pace pick up and the score was doubled in the last 14 overs, Paul Turley striking a hard hitting 20 which was followed by an excellent unbroken last wicket stand of 40 from Logan Kirk (20no) and Andy Penswick (15no), a respectable 144-9 being achieved. An early wicket saw Freckleton in trouble but they rallied despite a good opening spell from James Richardson and Steve Worswick, however all was going well for St Josephs with the required run rate increasing and wickets never looking far away. The introduction of Andy Penswick (3-34) and Logan Kirk into the attack then coincided with an unbelievable 6 dropped catches in just three overs, with one or two more to follow later! This obviously changed the course of the match and Freckleton managed to scrape home with two wickets and three balls to spare for a win that virtually guarantees them the league title. As other results turned out a win in this game would have seen St Joe’s in a very strong position to claim runners up spot and with it, the now likely, second promotion place. It’s the local derby with Fulwood and Broughton this coming Saturday with a 1pm start and with it still all to play for.

OTHER NEWS: ‘Saints’ Cling On To Top Spot – 22/08/09
With only two matches to play St Joseph’s are back on top of the league following an impressive team performance to take maximum points against Torrisholme. Having elected to bat first St Joe’s found themselves at 31-3 but solid contributions from Steve Almond (23), Colin Fawcett (17), Kevin Skerritt (22), Tom Parkinson (29), Paul Turley (19) and a top score of 46 not out from Peter Lumsden saw the total reach 201-8. The Torrisholme innings saw early wickets fall and despite a fifth wicket partnership of 48 they were dismissed for 127. Logan Kirk again amongst the wickets with 6-73.
