BASIC RULES OF THE SITE

This is a Harry Potter roleplaying site. We are using the world of Harry Potter and some characters and the like, but we have also created our own pieces of it. Whatever isn't J. K. Rowling's creation is © to one of our members, or BBC, when it comes to The Doctor, who is just a random character that doesn't have much to do with anything on this site. DO NOT STEAL ANYTHING! Also: The Harry Potter Series is not owned by anyone on the site, it is simply a recreational Role Play.

• When you join, you must use a character name, like Solomon Tussand or Tavin Joker. You might have to do a little searching but there are plenty of names out there for you to go off of.
• You must keep a positive attitude. Please don't flame anyone, for any reason.
• You must be literate! No chat speak, l337 5p33k, or symbols anywhere on the board. (Ex: +jumps over a rock+ Look, another rock! +picks up rock+)
• This is a 17-and-older roleplaying site - there will be cursing and mature situations. Do not join unless you are sure you can handle such things.
• Try to stay away from one liners since it doesn't give the people you're rping with much to work with. Minimum post length is 125 words, unless you are a cannon, then it's 150.
• NO GODMODING UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Godmoding is when you roleplay not only the actions of yourself but the actions of others. (i.e "Jeff and Rose walked down the street, and Jeff kissed Rose, and she kissed back" What if Rose didn't want to kiss back, or be kissed?) Its obnoxious and disrespectful. Do it and we shall roast your characters head on a spit.
• You only have thirty days to complete a member application, past that and it will be denied, if you haven't worked something out with an admin.
• UPON JOINING, you MUST have a character app started WITHIN FIVE DAYS. We will delete you if you don't start an application, especially if you are a canon!
• Any and all rated R threads must be put under password protection.
• Avatars must not be smaller than 100x100 or larger than 150x150.

CANON RULES

• We will require ALL canons to stay active, and let us know if you can’t go through with this or need a break.
• Most Canon mirrors are not pre-assigned but you should probably try to keep the appearance similar so don't make the child of Luna Lovegood the complete opposite, at least keep them blond.
• The Canon Mirrors that are preassigned are done so for a reason. Don't yell at us for it, we can and will ban you. The cannons with preassigned mirrors are major parts of the plot, All cannons beside these and Lily Potter are not crucial, but they are nice to have.
• All canons posts should be at least 150+ words especially in plot based situations.

MIRROR RULES

*A photographic mirror must be a celebrity, as in; Someone famous, like band members, people from movies and plays.
• A hand drawn mirror or painting must be your own work or you must have written consent of the Artist. We would like you to put the Name of the piece, or character in the piece, as well as the artist, so we may ensure that they have consented. Do not steal other people's work.
• CG Mirrors are allowed, assuming you can depict a face clearly on it, it is your own work (Not a video game character, you see) and has some representation on your character's account via icon or signature.
• Famous Paintings/Drawings are NOT allowed, simply because the copyrighting is too complicated.
• Keep the mirror the same gender as your character! Even if they are normally in drag, ex: Jeffree Starr would still be a male character.
• No Double Mirrors, as in, Do Not post the same mirror for two characters. PM either Solomon Tussand or Tavin Joker for any exceptions for this rule, i.e. Twins.
  
  Again, PM an Admin for any clarification on these rules, or questions about anything not listed.

RULES OF MAGICAL CREATURES

Unlike most sites, Spells and Seats has a large variety of magical creatures that one's character may be. We have everything from Trolls to Veelas, and there are some careful rules we'd like you to abide by.

Blanket Rules (Rules covering every species):
• No violence to any character unless it is completely approved by the character victim to it.
• No God Moding (of course)
• You must put it in your application if you plan on being it. Now, we know sometimes you have a spur of the moment idea and suddenly want a species, so PM an Admin if you'd like a change into a Werewolf or Vampire later.
• All of these species can be killed
  
  General Statement for ALL half-breeds:
• As nearly Forty Years have passed since Harry defeated Voldemort, half-breed rights have been fought for and won. Vampires and Werewolves are now both considered Wizards and it is possible for them to get jobs, but it is still harder than it should be. Many people accept them, but there is still a good deal of racism toward them, especially from Pureblood Wizarding families such as the Malfoys, but some of them (Like the Potters and Weasleys) are just as accepting as everyone else.
  
  Vampire Mapout:
  Vampires are the only species that are not self explanatory in JK Rowling's books, therefore, for this site, we will clarify a few things.
• Vampires can drink human OR animal blood
• Vampires do not have to kill when they feed, and they should not kill unless pre-approved, or a non-character of the site.
• Vampires cannot be exposed to the sun for long periods of time, for they literally burn like a human flown to the sun.
• They cannot sexually reproduce, they can only change humans into vampires. However, they can be sexually active, and if you need something that violates the rules, PM an admin, and we can work something out.
• Young vampires cannot drink the heart blood until they are at least a year old, and have drunk blood regularly (note: The Heart Blood is the very last drop of blood a person is living on, to drink it is to take their life, and change them into a vampire via magical properties, if they drink it any sooner, the death consumes them) THIS RULE HAS BEEN CHANGED, see the final three on the Vampire list.
• To change a person into a vampire, one must only drink their heart's blood.
• A vampire may eat and drink regular food and beverages, and their bodies dispose of it in the same way as a human does, via digestion, they simply do not gain any energy from it, and it is OPTIONAL.
• Any and all liquids from a vampire other than saliva is blood.
• If a vampire was a witch or wizard before they are changed, they are still so afterwards, meaning they still have that form of magic at their command.
• A vampire does not change into any creature due to becoming a vampire, they may only change into an animal if they are an animagus.
• Holy items have no physical effect on a vampire due to them being a vampire, they are only effected by them if they THINK they are effected by them, It's all in the head.
• Garlic DOES work at keeping Vampires at bay (J.K. Rowling's Law)
• Stake through the heart DOES kill a vampire, as it would kill any living thing. No, they do not turn to dust. They die like a person would, and rot.
• Young vampires CAN NOT turn new vampires until four years of being undead. Any sooner, and both they and the person they are trying to turn will die. Their blood is not strong enough, not can they sacrifice their own blood in large enough amounts at that time. The turnee would be poisoned by the blood, and the young vampire would be drained dry.
• A vampire less than seven cannot drink the last drop of blood a person is living on, doing so would drag them into death with the victim.
• A new vampire can be made by the human being drained within an inch of their life and then being fed some of the vampire's blood.
  
  Werewolf:
  The only thing I wish to clarify about werewolves; how they are made.
• They can be reproduced sexually (but in many cases, it is not passed on), and can be made by a werewolf bite.
  
  Werewolves and Vampires;
• You may only change a character WITH THEIR CONSENT (the person behind the character, not the character)
• While we recognize that it can happen, we would prefer no vampire/werewolf hybrids, because it is simply too powerful. It would like god-moding.
  
  Veelas:
• Not every person is attracted to you immediately
• The Dance and music is what makes people loose their heads, not your looks
  
  Other Creatures Not Listed:
• Just don't kill things, Ok?

ETIQUETTE

So, this being a literate board, most of this will, indeed, be completely obvious.

Please keep these in mind, when posting(They aren't really rules, more like guidelines, but some you can still get warnings for, so be careful):

1. When posting, WAIT YOUR TURN, just because you see and opportunity to post, doesn't mean you should, unless there is no way anyone else can post.

2. Try to avoid using tiny font and/or colors so bright they are not legible unless you post somewhere else, it's obnoxious.

3. Please don't post in only italics, it's hard to read. Same with bold, and underlining is to make a point.

4. PLEASE, keep the width of your signatures under 600 pixels... It stretches out the page and can get fairly irritating.

5. Make sure that most of your things are spelled correctly and that everything is properly capitalized.

6. HAVE FUN. This is strictly for entertainment and to help our own styles grow. It's called Role PLAYING for a reason, let your imagination guide you. Sensibly, of course.

TEMPLATES AND POSTING

Templates in when posting in topics can be a great way to draw attention to the topic, and give a peak at the sort of mood your character is in at the period of time you are writing in the topic, however I would like to request one thing;

Please only use a template in the first post in a topic. Any replies, assuming it is a new character joining, may also be templated, but only initially.

It is understood that the look and feel of templates are very nice for drawing attention, however there comes a point when they are simply distracting. It is easier to keep focus on a topic if one does not use a template in every post. There is no punishment for breaking this rule, because it is a guideline, but please do not simply ignore it.
