Title: SOLVED:Hacked, Traced, etc?
Damage Inc. - December 31, 2006 05:01 AM (GMT)
I didn't know exactly where to put this, but here it goes:
Yesterday or the day before I was playing the BF2142 Online Demo.
All of a sudden I heard these loud beeping sounds, kinda like (older) modems would do.
It was kinda funny since it were these typical cyber-sounds like in 'The Matrix' or something, and at the same time I heard BF2142s sounds which were quite similar.
Only the sounds that weren't supposed to be there were much louder than the game's background sounds and I also never heard them before.
Now on one side it could've been my wireless headphones, I've had it a lot that I receive other people's frequencies.
Although I didn't have it almost at all lately, and now all of a sudden I get these loud and clear sounds through my own sound.
It also didn't sound like it was another frequency cutting through mine.
So I obviously didn't trust it, finished the round, then disconnected from the internet and pulled out the internet-cable itself, but reconnected hours later.
I have an ADSL connection.
What could this have been?
I still suspect Aliens...

Hmm Aliens is a very good possibility.
But on the more serious side its hard to tell what could have been the problem since we can't really hear the sound. But frequency issues could also have something to do with it. Do you by chance have a cordless 2.4GHz phone near the computer?
I'm pretty sure you did not get hacked or traced... by aliens :D
P.S. Sorry for the late response. I'm out of town on vacation so I'm trying to reply whenever I can :)

You mean a telephone?
No, we have some here, cordless home and cell phones, but they never just lie near the PC, and also never have problems with them, even during a call.
I've heard the sound of phones coming through speakers before though, but it was a lot different what I heard.
If it was my headphone's frequency being disturbed I wouldn't have heard heard the game's sound so loud and clear anymore.
It was really the game, and then you'd hear that "alien-communication" over it without any disturbing whatsoever.
I also didn't hear it anymore playing after that (I'm glad), still think it's very suspicious...

Yes I meant 2.4GHz Telephone. Do you by chance have any kind of environmental effect on with that game or and kind of 3D sound options enabled?
The Demo itself may be messed up. You could also try to reinstall it and see if you encounter the same problem.

I use no extra effects or anything, the EAX-setting in the menu is off too.
I'm sure the game itself is fine, to me it obviously seemed a thing from the outside.
Because before and after that one time it happened, it never happened.
I thought maybe someone would recognize this, as in, that it might be a thing that happens when something is being manipulated or something like that.
Like the fictional event of a deja vu in The Matrix means that something has been changed.
Just as an example...

I could have been some kind of outside interference especially with a wireless headset, which is not uncommon. But I doubt it is anything to be worried about. I'm sure everything is fine.

Yes, Most likely the problem would be due to a Wireless phone which runs at 2.4 Ghz and can interfere with alot of stuff... like sometimes if you run the microwave and you are on the phone at the same time you might hear some crackling because microwaves use the 2.4 ghz Frequency also.
You could do a test or something where you play the game and have someone cook something in the microwave or make a phone call...
Or it could be possible if you have some very close neighbors ( living in an apartment or houses that are close together )
That might be using their phone or microwave...
Hope i helped :)

Yes, I have had interference with other people's frequencies.
I've even listened to conversations and people listening or making music.
But this was nothing like it, this was just the sounds I described before.
So yea, it just happened in a different way.
But it didn't happen again, unless it's only when I play BF2142.
Or maybe... it was some player (read hacker) messing around which I'll probably never run into again.
