Some people have the gift of being able to roleplay, while others do not. Have you ever been wanting to roleplay but were not quite sure how? Keep reading, and soon, you'll be able to roleplay, too!

Chapter One: The Basics

Everyone has to start somewhere. Many great roleplayers didn't even know what it meant to roleplay at some point in their lives. Well, here is your beginning. Let's start you on your way to being a master of the roleplay. Well, first off, some people do not use the full word "roleplay" when they are typing or speaking. Roleplay is more commonly known as RP. It's an abbreviation, the "R" standing for role, and the "p" standing for play. To put it simply, roleplaying is basically writing a story with others helping you. Below is an example of a part of a story and a part of a roleplay. Compare them.

Story:
Slowly as she crept towards the door, Arine heard an ear piercing scream. She carefully turned the door, and walked inside to find a girl with blond hair sitting on the bed reading a magazine.
"Was that you who screamed?" Arine asked with disbelief.
"Yeah, of course it was me!" The girl replied. "Can you believe that the members of Black Rose broke up? What a tragedy!"

Roleplay:

Arine slowly crept towards the door, unsure of what she'd find on the other side. She carefully turned the doorknob, and quietly walked inside.

Rayne barely noticed Arine as she entered the room, as she was preoccupied with her magazine. She quickly flipped the page, and suddenly let out an ear piercing scream.

Arine heard a scream, and realized that it was coming from a blond girl on the other side of the room. She walked over to the girl, unsure of what had caused her to scream.
"Why did you just scream then?" Arine asked.

"I was reading my magazine when I saw an article that said the members of Black Rose broke up," she said, still reading the magazine. "What a tragedy!"

Chapter Two: Kinds of Roleplay

{The following roleplay examples are between 4evakewl and yakuri, made up people. 4evakewl's characters are Artemus and Devi, while yakuri's are Camily and Haden.}
Script Roleplay
(Roleplaying as if you were writing a script)
-4evakewl-
Artemus: *poking his sushi* Isn't it a little gross to eat raw fish?

Devi: Heck no! *continues to eat* I love this stuff! *smiles*

Haden: *walks into Sushi Palace* Hey, Artemus! *stares at Devi* Hey, Devi.

Camily: I'm so glad that I came here! I'm starving!

Devi: Well, guys, pull up a chair! There's plenty of sushi to go around!

-yakuri-
Camily: Okay! *pulls up a chair and sits next to Devi*

Devi: Oh, no you don't! That seat's for Haden! Get lost, you little brat!

In Snowflake Forest, we do not use script roleplay. We use the kind similar to story writing. An example is below.

Artemis sat at a table at Sushi Bar, poking the food that was on his plate.
"Isn't it a little gross to eat raw fish?" He asked to no one in particular, and pushed the plate away.

Devi walked up to where Artemis was sitting, and sat down in a chair.
"Heck no!" She said, and continued to eat from the plate that she was holding. "I love this stuff!" She smiled, though some sushi could be seen stuck within her teeth.

Haden walked into the Sushi palace, looking for a place to sit. He spotted Artemus, and walked over.
"Hey, Artemus!" He said, then noticed that Devi was sitting there as well and stared at her. "Hey, Devi."

Camily pushed open the doors to the restaurant, practically knocking over a five year old that was standing by the door.
"I'm so glad that I came here!" She said. "I'm starving!"

Devi waved to Haden and Camily.
"Well, guys, pull up a chair!" She said. "There's plenty of sushi ot go around!"

"Okay!" Camily said, pulling up a chair next to Devi.

As Devi saw what Camily was doing, she pushed her out of her chair.
"Oh no you didn't!" She said, "That seat's for Haden! get lost, you little brat!"

Chapter Three: What NOT to do in a roleplay

No one liners.

Bad: Linae walked to the vending machine.

Good: Linae walked to the vending machine, aware that no one else was out that late at night. She felt her pocket to make sure that she still had her change, and kept going.

No chatspeak.

Bad: asher 4got 2 get his books & borrowed sum 4 free from the gr8 book store

Good: Asher forgot to get his books from his locker. Luckily, he knew of a great book store that was only a few minutes away that lent books for free.

No bad grammar or spelling.

Bad: brandon brung an luhnshbawx to the caffetreia with careotes and peeas imnsied

Good: Brandon always had lunch in the cafeteria on fridays. He brought a lunchbox to the cafeteria with carrots and peas inside it.

No double posting.

Bad:

Drew was one of the smartest students that you would ever meet.
-Yolinya-
Drew could read 100000 books in a day.

Good:
-Yolinya-
Drew was a high school student. He was one of the smartest students that you would ever meet.

-Sakura-
Camily had always wanted to meet Drew her whole life. She dreamed of one day being just like him.

-Yolinya-
One day, Drew was reading a book when he noticed a yound girl writing in her notebook.
"What do you have there?" He said.

No taking over other people's characters.
Here is an example of what this would be:
-Liyara-
Angel was the perfect dorm head, as she was kind and gentile with the younger students. She always wore a smile on her face.

-Bob-
Angel leaned forward and kissed Bob. (Bob roleplayed as Angel, who is not his character.)

No talking out of character.
Here is an example of what this would be:

(She is talking about random things instead of roleplaying)

Chapter 4: Creating a character


Before you begin roleplaying, you'll need a character to roleplay with.

First, you should find a picture. You could either draw it or find a picture on the internet.




Then, you can start by creating basic information about your character.

Name: Camily
Age: 15
Birthday: Spring 22
Hair color: Red/Pink
Eye Color: Brown
Height: 5'4"

Then, add some things about their personality.

Personality: Fun, Hyper, Random, Kind, Good Friend

Likes:
Fun
Music
Posters
Art
Drew

Dislikes:
Black
Winter
Being Alone

Then, throw in some personal info.

Mother: Sierra Rae
Father: Michael Charles
Siblings: NONE

Now, create a character profile, and you can begin to roleplay!
