NPCs (or non-playable characters) can be very useful tools in role play scenarios. For this reason, we thought it was necessary to explain what is and what is not acceptable when using them.

• You may use NPCs to act as customer service persons such as wait staff, bartenders, service individuals in shops, etc…

• You may use NPCs as nameless faceless people to add to a role play environment, or to act out a certain event. (Ex: CharacterX rushes from the dance floor, bumping into a chesty blonde doing the running man.)

• You may use NPCs in place of real members to act as victims, etc…

--------------------------

• You may not use NPCs as alternate characters for the board. In other words, you may not create an elaborate NPC and use them as extras in all of your role plays. (Ex: a NPC room mate whom you interact with on a daily basis)

• When using an NPC, you may not EXPECT other members in a thread to respond to them unless you have discussed it beforehand. (Ex: CharacterX orders a martini and sends the waitress over to CharacterY with a note and a smile) As harmless as this scenario sounds, the member playing CharacterY may not want to react to this NPC waitress in place of actual role play between your characters.

In other words, NPCs are here to add to our role plays like extras in a movie. They are not real characters here at SMC and should not be played as such. If you have any questions or concerns about these guidelines, feel free to PM a member of staff or reply in this thread.
