Silmarwen Island

Welcome to a land of mystery, amazing wonders and odd colors. The Island of Silmarwen was a place for escape, the gods once lived upon the island. Because the wolf gods lived upon the island, the soil never seems to die. There are also a large rang of territories, all of them different in there own way. From lush forests to hot dry deserts. This land holds great promise but also destruction. As the lands fill with more wolves the packs begin to mold. The wolves choose there destiny by the personalities of the packs. From the evil Brimhor pack to the wise Oropher pack, there is many choices. So come and join us in this land of chance...

Silmarwen is a semi-realistic wolf role-play. We role-play in liquid time meaning you can have your wolf in many places at one time. If we become very active and almost over populated then we will talk about making it just normal role-play. Also wolves here have all colors from pinks to oranges. All are welcome and encouraged. Wings and adornments and small things are also allowed. Though we do not approve of elemental powers. So please don’t use those. Please enjoy your time here and keep the forum active!

Before I start

I just felt like it :]
At the beginning I'll be doing stuff like cutting, recoloring etc?
But if anyone wants to know how to do something(that's assuming I know how!) then you can ask for a tut ;p

I'm sure, like for those with GIMP or PSP, you might be able to follow along with similar tools on your programs, and get the jist, but for the most part I'm afraid I can't help you ;]

This is all presuming that these will actually prove helpful. If not, I'll not bother ^^; Also, I'm not sure how I'll manage the tutorials, but they will all be in one thread. Probably in different posts, though.. Anyway.

Cutting
Just your basic "how to take that and put it there". A few people might be groaning, but, hey, some people don't know how. I didn't know for the first while o.o;

FIRST THINGS FIRST, V. IMPORTANT. YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS OR IT WON'T WORK. Atleast not my way.
The first thing is that you open your picture. This one is by meantux at flickr and full credit goes to her, yadda yadda yadda:

Once it's opened, you duplicate the layer. Go to the right of the screen. See the long horizontal box, with a small thumnail picture of your image? Right click where it says Background and click "Duplicate layer". This will make a copy of your wolf.

After that, delete the layer at the bottom, so only the one you just made is left - "Background copy". It doesn't seem important now, but it is. Oh, and you know the two squares of color on the left of the screen? Make sure they're both at white.

Then, you select the polygonal lasso tool. It might be hidden under the lasso tool, right click to bring up the list: (BE WARNED! This involves lots of clicking, this tut)

Ok, now start anywhere on your wolf and start clicking, following the lines around, like so(each red dot represents where I've clicked):

That's a big enough area for now. Then you join it up, so it's selected a chunk of the background. It'll look something like this:

That's good, but a bit jaggy because the lines are so sharp. To soften that, you go to Select>Modify>Feather, in the top menu list. A box will come up called "Feather selection". In the box, type 0.3, and click ok. That's made the outline a bit softer.

Finally, you go to Edit>Clear. This takes away the selection, and should leave you with a squared section of background, if you did the duplicate layers right. I would give you a picture of what that should look like but I forgot to make one and it's too late now.
Now, you do it all the way round the wolf! I know it sounds like it takes long, but it doesn't really - wolves are fairly simple to cut out. Try cutting out a horse's tail, it'll kill you! And it will eventually give something a bit like this:

Pfft, I know it's all blocky and doesn't look very natural. But you edit it in the way of your choice (smudging, coloring, I'll post tuts for them later) and then you take the rectangular marquee tool:

Drag it over your edited wolf, and go to Edit>Copy:

Then take your background(which I'm hoping you'll have prepared by now), here's a quick one I threw together:

Paste in your wolf (that's a no-brainer, I trust no-one needs a picture of that) And edit to your liking. So here's my final image! Granted it's bad, but it took me all of 10minutes.

Hope this helped some people <3! Will post more later, especially if people request a tut happy.gif.
