It is present-day Japan. Set in the lush forests of the Kyoto countryside, Seireino Uta, "Spirit's Song" schools young Japanese witches and wizards in the arts of magic.

"Hai," Noriko bowed deeply, "arigato. I am glad that you let me take some of your time for this exercise Keri-sensei." Straightening, Noriko smiled keenly as the toad reverted to its original form. "I will do what I find to be my best to do the things that you will teach us in class."

Bowing again, she let herself out.
