Growing Up, Who to be apprenticed with who. SMOKESKY

Novalight had moved to her den with her phesant. She loved it in her, with the darkness being broken up with shafts of light, and the moss and fern beding, but now wasn't the time. She poked her nose out of the den and ignoring the conversation between Corralblossom and Shellpelt, yelled in a booming voice, "SMOKESKY!" For all his lazyness and semi-empty-mindedness, Smokesky had a good way with the rest of the clan. She respected his oppinions on matter of who to get to mentor soon to be apprentices. Her whiskers twiched as she remembered his batting record. All of their match ups had worked our wonderfully for both mentor and mentee. She just hoped that this time her deputy would come when called. That's why she missed Dawnstorm. Sure they would argue a lot more about athority, but when push came to shove, Dawnstorm wasn't afraid to do what was right for the clan, even if she had to fight to get it. The lanky shape of Smokesky appeared in the camp entrance tunnel. For once he came when I needed him. Novalight thought to herself, and with that she turned back into her den to wait.

Smokesky lazily padded into the den. I actually came on time for once! "This is about the kits, right? They're ready to be apprenticed." He was glad there would be new apprentices soon: Redpaw was always complaining about how lonely the apprentice den was. Smokesky looked purposefully at his leader. "If that is why you called me here, I have a pretty good idea of who should mentor the kits." He casually licked is tail and waited for a reply.



[Isn't is the custom for the leader to choose mentors? Or is it different in ZephyClan...
Anyways, I was thinking Coralblossom (or a messenger, if somebody will make one!) for Petalkit, Icefeather for Starkit, and Mustangheart for Beekit]

"Yes, that's why I called. Who do you think would make a good mentor for the kits?" If cats could have rolled their eyes, Novalight would have. Smokesky's tone was slightly disrespectful, and Novalight didn't like it. She would reprimand anyone else who was this presumptuous, but she was too thankful that Smokesky had come. It was a pain to have to drag him by his tail into serious business. He rarely helped with making important decisions about the future. He was to busy socializing. That's what made him good at pairing up the soon to be apprentices, but it could get annoying. The weight of the clan fell entirely upon Novalight's bushy shoulders. If only Dawnstorm where here. Despite the fact that they argued a lot, Novalight's ideas improved after bouncing them off of people. But the only one who could listen to the complex task of running the Clan without going insane was Dawnstorm. Oh well, can't change that now. She steeled herself to not lose her temper at Smokesky. She did need someone to help around camp, and Smokesky avoided her whenever lost her temper. Novalight was fairly even tempered, but dealing with the lazy fluff ball was Annoying sometimes.

[XDD I meant to write Shellpelt... I think my brain reverted to thinking of Mossrain? Whatever...]

"Well..." Smokesky began, "I was thinking Beekit could be mentored by Mustangheart, Coralblossom could mentor Petalkit, and Icefeather could mentor Starkit. What do you think? Their personalities match up pretty well." Smokesky spent a lot of time around camp talking to and watching all the cats in the Clan. As far as he could see, these were the best matches. Icefeather was friendly and good with kits; She might be able to get Starkit to act more social. Mustangheart would be stern but playful with Beekit and not get annoyed, and Coralblossom... Smokesky didn't relly know why he had chosen her for Petalkit. It just seemed right. [Unless we get a messenger! Grr!]

Novalight considered his proposals. She didn't know Mustangheart very well ((Tainted didn't give a personality)) and she didn't know if Mustangheart would be attentive enough to keep track of Beekit. Corralblossom might do well with Starkit, but as much as Novalight wanted Starkit to feel more... Clan pride, she didn't think Corralblossom would be the right cat for the job. Corralblossom was to in-your-face for Starkit not attentive enough. Corralblossom would flirt when she should train. No, Starkit wouldn't respect Corralblossom. As for Petalkit, Novalight didn't know. She would follow anyone anywhere. Shellpelt likes her alone time, and Petalkit woudl never leave her alone.
What to do. She voiced her concerns aloud to Smokesky.
"I see what you mean about Corralblossom making Starkit more social, but I don't think Starkit will be able to connect with or respect Corralblossom. Mustangheart might be able to keep up with Beekit, but I don't know. Corralblossom certainly could, but pairing those to together could mean the rest of us don't get any sleep. Mustangheart might be good for Petalkit, Mustang heart is as far as I can tell steady. Shellpelt or Corralblossom would ignore the kit too much. What do you think about that? How could your pair-ups overcome these difficulties, or do you think that your matches might not be the best,"
It might be a bit mean, but Novalight couldn't help but tweak the younger cat's whiskers. She may not know the Clan cats well, but she knew enough to know that Starkit and Petalblossom would probably not be happy with the mentors Smokesky had chosen. But that's what he was there for, for Novalight to bounce ideas off of.

Whoops... I think I may have switched the two that are not Mustangheart around... And I just realized that I meant to write Icefeather (when I wrote Mossfeather) So that means no Shellpelt. I waswondering why I would ever think of Shellpelt... I'll go fix that, heh....
