"Hmm, rules...rules...Ah, yes! We'll turn this into more a scavenger hunt than a race, since I guess you're not sure where you're going."

Then the genin threw his kunai into the forest.

"No rules. Anything goes. Just find my kunai and bring it back here. First to do so wins. Just to be safe, if neither f us can find it, come back here five minutes after the start. I'll alert you with my katon if I'm back here first, otherwise, I'll find my way back. "

'' Alright, got it! '' Haruko responded. He got in a pose ready to sprint.

"Ready...Go!" Shimoru quickly said.

Haruko leaped into the forest ahead with his top speed! Haruko jumped on branches, crawled on the ground, and walked around! He couldn't find the kunai anywhere. I'll have to keep looking! '' Man, I wish I had the Byakugan! ''

Haruko quickly left Shimoru's sight in the direction of where he threw his kunai.

Instead of wasting energy, let me think this through. As heavy as a kunai is, plus the bark I placed on the tip, it probably isn't in the branches. And since I covered the tip, it probably isn't stuck to any of the trees. That means I need to check the ground twice over, before I try to look for it to get caught in any branches.

He left in the direction that Haruko dashed off in. After running for a minute or so, he found Haruko, walking around, searching for Shimoru's kunai. Guess he didn't find it. All of a sudden, he didn't fell like competing. There's a five-minute time limit anyway. If Haruko doesn't find it, oh, well, no harm done.

He decided instead, to watch Haruko from the safety of the branches. He wanted to see if Haruko had any abilities that he didn't mention earlier.

Haruko looked left and right, then stopped. He closed his eyes and stood up straight. Trees. Grass. Bark. Leaves. Kunai... The wind picked up, moving Haruko's hair with it. Its standing up somewhere. Shimoru put something on it's end, so it has to be standing up! So it should be somewhere in plain sight! Haruko opened his eyes and yelled. '' Thats it! '' Then he did some hand seals and activated Shunshin No Jutsu! The blonde genin flashed away and dashed all over the grassy ground, searching for the kunai. Haruko would sometimes stop at a certain spot to look around, then flash away again.

58 Seconds left

Haruko, deciding it was hopless, started walking back. But then he stubbed his toe on something. '' Hey its the kunai! '' I should have known! He couldn't have thrown it that far with the thing at it's end. It would just be too heavy to be thrown so far! '' Heeey! Shimoru! I found it! Is there still time left? ''

'' Thats it! '' Haruko yelled. He then shiunshined from where he stood. Shimoru did the same, trying not to lose the young shinobi.

He seemed to be following Haruko for a minute or so before the boy seemingly gave up. He turned around to walk back to the starting point, but his toe tapped Shimoru's kunai. '' Hey its the kunai! Heeey! Shimoru! I found it! Is there still time left? ''

Shimoru emerged from the brush, lightly applauding him. "Very nice. Yeah, you got about 30 seconds left. So, how are you going to get it back to the starting point in those 30 seconds? Or should I take it off your hands and win?" he asked with a tremendous amount of sarcasm.

Now how the heck will he get it back in time? It's bad enough he doesn't know where he is, now he's got a time limit. And the truth was, he had no idea how much time Haruko really had left.

Then Shimoru appeared from the forest. "Very nice. Yeah, you got about 30 seconds left. So, how are you going to get it back to the starting point in those 30 seconds? Or should I take it off your hands and win?" Whoa. I guess he really ment it when he said no rules. Haruko took a step back then smirked at Shimoru. '' Ha! I don't know where I am, true, but my jutsu has left a mark that will lead me right back to home! Shunshin No Jutsu! '' Then Haruko flashed down the trail his previous Shunshin left. Hopefully he won't catch me! Either that, or I run out of time!

Haruko took a step back then smirked at Shimoru. '' Ha! I don't know where I am, true, but my jutsu has left a mark that will lead me right back to home! Shunshin No Jutsu! '' Then Haruko flashed down the trail his previous Shunshin left.

Interesting. I'll wait until time's up before going after him.i He wanted to see if Haruko could really find his way back, 20 seconds... The birds were chirping once the brushing and crunching of leaves had stopped during Haruko's exit. 10 seconds...I wonder if I could distract him from making it back?

He stood there and made several handseals. Katon: Hosenka no Jutsu! He shot over ten fireballs into the air towards the starting point. They'll disintegrate before they hit anything. So, guess I'll start heading back to "home", as Haruko called it.

With that done, he shunshined back towards "home," hoping that Haruko didn't make it.

Gotta hurry! He might make it before me! Haruko thought as he followed his trail. But he noticed that there were at least nine or ten fireballs going through the air. Does that mean times up? Or is he just distracting me? I can't wait ti find out! Haruko followed the trail until he saw the original spot they started at. Its only a yard or so away! 4 Haruko's jutsu wore off and he ran towards home! 2 Haruko jumped in the air hoping that he would make it. 1 (Yes its all very dramatic) Before Haruko could touch the ground, 0 the time ran out.

'' Grrr. I still lost. *sigh* ''

Shimoru stoped short as he entered the clearing where they had started. Haruko had Shimoru's kunai, and seemed to have found his way back well. "Well, well, well," the red-headed genin told Haruko with some cockiness in his voice. "Seems as though you didn't make it."

He walked towards the kunai he had left in the ground, and pulled it out of the ground, bringing some earth with him. "But you won," he said with humility, probably shocking the boy. "Even if you didn't make it back before time expired, you found my kunai first, and got back to the starting point before I did. This was a race, whcih is a question of 'who can do this faster?' You did it faster than I did, so you won.' he explained.

The redhead walked towards the blonde and gestured for his kunai back. He then kept quiet for a moment waiting for a response. He had a feeling that the boy would jump or something.

"Well, well, well,"

Heh. Can't underestimate me. I still lost though. Bummer.

"Seems as though you didn't make it."

Yeah, I already figured it out!

"But you won,"

Haruko turned around so he was on his back.

'' What? '' Haruko said in a confused way.

"Even if you didn't make it back before time expired, you found my kunai first, and got back to the starting point before I did. This was a race, whcih is a question of 'who can do this faster?' You did it faster than I did, so you won.'' He explained.

Haruko got up and gave Shimoru a quizzical look. He's right. He's right! I did win after all! Huh. This guy sure is honest for letting me win.

'' Right, thanks. Oh, and here. ''
Haruko tossed the kunai at Shimoru. He put his hands behind his head and said. '' So, why were you out here in the first place? ''
