SBR: The Story So Far

With the dawn of 2376 and the end of the Dominion War, a new peace was appearing in the Alpha Quadrant. To help promote the new peace, the Federation signed the Third Treaty of Khitomer with the Romulans, Klingons, and Bajorans. The new Alliance formed was negotiated in talks that did not involve the Cardassians or Breen. The Allies began to focus on the rebuilding of their respective peoples in the post-War Galaxy. In a sign of symbolism between the governments, the new Joint Exploratory Front was created, a joint scientific venture between the Federation and Romulan fleets, with a few select Bajoran and Klingon officers. Their goal; to push the boundaries of exploration towards the Galactic Core. To serve as a launch base and repair facility for the exploration fleets, Starbase Republic was constructed. A combination of Romulan and Federation efforts, it was finished in August 2376, a monstrous city of the stars. It was placed under the command of Jason M. Craz, a veteran of the Dominion War, respected by both the Federation and the majority of the Romulans. The first few months of exploration went smoothly, until November 2376.

A race calling themselves the Cerva made several attacks on Federation and Romulan starships, claiming the space the Federation was exploring for themselves. At every corner, the Allies found themselves confronted by the mysterious race. In response, the Federation Council and Romulan Senate passed a series of measures to protect against the Cerva, called the Oakfield Acts. The Cerva proved to be fanatical warriors, fighting with skill against the superior numbers of the Federation. They also were skilled assassins and spies. Before the Oakfield Acts were passed, several operations were foiled by agents of the Cerva. Now, the Allies work hard to defend their homes with a defense fleet stationed along the border of the Unexplored Territories.

By 2380, galactic politics had changed drastically. Bajor clung to the words of their missing Emissary, declining to apply for Federation membership on two separate occasions. On Romulus, the Shinzon Revolt had shaken the very foundation of the Romulan Empire political system. Praetor Tal'Aura tries to keep the Romulan Empire together, while the pro-Federation Romulan Imperium under the command of Empress Donatra t'Valdran is forming a more traditionalist nation. Chancellor Martok still holds the mantle of chief executive of the Klingon Empire, but the Klingons now focus on rebuilding their tattered Empire rather than conquest. The Breen have also been rebuilding under the watchful eye of the Federation, as have the Cardassians.

In Starbase Republic's current point in time, the Cerva themselves are in a point of turmoil. Pro-democratic reformers have begun to stage a coup, headed by the ship Fire's Heart.
