You really have to concentrate on this one. It has a very interesting narrative style switching between three different times in the lives of the gangsters. It is often forgotten when De Niro's best movies are spoken about but he holds it all together sometimes without saying anything, just a look. James Woods is also strong playing a complicated guy ready to explode at any moment. The ending is controversial, there are a lot of arguments about what really happened and whether the whole thing was a dream. What do you think?

I think the Deborah character was quite snobby and looked down on the other kids she grew up with. Her whole life was about getting to Hollywood and becoming an actress. During their date by the beach she basically told him he was too possessive for her and that her only goal was to get "to the top", he didn't figure in her plans and any chance he might have had in the future was ruined when he raped her. As for her getting together with Max, that is strange but maybe they got comfort in each other as they shared a mutual lost "love"- Noodles.....
