Uh.....technically, that would be wrong.

Otaku is a word meant as an insult to someone who is way to overly obsessed with something in general.

Be it anime, tokusatsu, music, movies, games, manga, comics, etc...

Anime is just the most modern type of Otaku out there so it's easy to get Otaku mixed up as only being refered to an Anime Geek.

Anyone can be an otaku it just depends on their obsession of a sertain media.

Now, even if Otaku is considered an insult, some people will actually take it as a compliment if they feel that they really are an otaku and don't deny the accusation.


If that definition you got came from a friend or a website then they really need to update their Japanese as the definition I got comes from someone who is fluent in Japanese. That is my Japanese language professor back at my old college.

Sorry, I don't want to come off as a smart a** but it's just something that's commonly misinterpreted.
