Episode 1 (deleted scene):
ROSLIN: What's in the package? BILLY: Uh, it's a gift... from a captain of one of the ships. Uh, there's a note, "Please accept this on behalf of the people of Aerilon. It was taken on the capital of our colony during the attack." ROSLIN: (opening package, looking at 8-sided framed photo) "Oh." (caption reads: "Lest we forget", queue creepy music.) I have stated before that I believe this photo hanging over Roslin's desk is either the Palladium or the Oracle (at Delphi) in Greek mythology. Episode 8: BALTAR: Now, we just pop this in the slot and wait for the result. Green, you're a normal human being. Red, you're an evil Cylon. Should take a couple of minutes. So, uh, tell me, are you from Aerilon? Slight trace of an accent there... BOOMER: What? (Looks profoundly disturbed.) Uh, no. Troy. Troy. BALTAR: Troy... tell me, why is that familiar? BOOMER: Mining settlement? The accident. BALTAR: The explosion, right. That was tragic. Your family... BOOMER: Died with the rest. BALTAR: I'm very sorry. SIX: It's a lie. -------------------- Humanocylons are not Cylons.

So, Sharon was apparently raised by Aerilonian parents until she was planted on Troy, probably immediately after the explosion that killed everybody and probably around age 4. Prior to her planting in the ruins of Troy, I would have expected baby Sharon to be raised by Cylons or the masterminds of the Second Cylon War.
Aerilon and Picon both voted for Zarek in Colonial Day. Ellen comes from Picon. Baby Sharon was apparently raised by Aerilonian parents. Sekou Hamilton is the former editor of the Aerilon Gazette. The same actor played a pilot in the mini-series. He also changed names during his reporter character career. Playa Palacios is a former commentator for the Picon Star Tribune. Playa had sex with Baltar. Sekou and Playa both sided against Caprica Times' James McManus, who thought Wallace Gray was a prince of darkness. ROSLIN: You know, I remember when president Adar sent the marines into Aerilon. 15 people died. In public, of course, he had to say all the usual things. He– he was sure of what he'd done, made the right choice, stayed the course. But he knew it was a mistake. And he kept the names of the dead in his desk drawer. He said that it was imperative for a leader to remember and learn from the mistakes even if they can't admit to them publicly. We also know that the colonies fought each other and used Cylons to do so before the First Cylon War. How do we know that the miniseries attack wasn't another such colony-on-colony attack? How do we know Aerilon was nuked? From a picture given by the captain of an Aerilon starship to President Roslin (deleted scene)? Can we trust him? Now the picture hangs by Roslin's desk, a nice eavesdropping spot. Another of these pictures is in the pilot briefing room, another good eavesdropping spot. I suspect Aerilon and Picon are up to no good. -------------------- Humanocylons are not Cylons.

So what was Troy? It sounds like it might have been one of the moons of one of the Colonies, assuming that they have moons.
