These rules are in place to ensure that all members feel comfortable on site and that they have fun. Most are common sense and common courtesy we just type them up so that everyone is on the same page as to what those on this site see as such.

The main rule is, have fun, we have no word count, no minimum number of lines, so no pressure to post. We post for relaxation, so want our members to feel the same. All we ask is that you follow the 'active' guidelines for your canon or original... these range from no more than 1 month of no posting to4 months for Originals and certain canons. Please check out the specific rules.

Staff member's word is final.

Meaning no backchatting the staff members.

Multiple Characters.

We do not mind if you wish to have multiple characters we only have one rule.

You need to have posted In character with your newest accepted character (a no reply needed thread is fine), before you can post an application for another character.

No God-Modding / power playing.

This means:
No playing an invincible character. (One who either can't be hit, or is totally unphased by other characters hitting him/her.)

No playing of a character who is or seems to be 'all knowing' so would know things they should not know.

No playing anyone elses character, unless you have that person's express permission. (Minor things like stating you both got out of the car, etc for getting a thread moving is allowed, as long as its done in a way so that its not heavy handed and the other player can manouver as they wish in their post, as to what did and 'how' they did it.)

No playing so that you 'back another character into a corner', so that they are forced to reveal something, do something out of character, unless you have that person's express permission.
Note: If you are 'god modding' with the other person's permission, then the player needs to note in their post, before you do your post that will involve this, that they have given permission, i.e ((I've okayed John Doe knocking my character out.))

Failure to do so can lead to admins warning the member involved.

Plotline permission

If your plotline requires characters that do not belong to you, check that it is okay with the person who owns them, before you even consider having your character 'think' about it in an RP thread.

I.E John Doe and Jane Doe are going to be throwing a surprise birthday party for Jack Doe. << Those playing John and Jane have to get an okay from Jack first, even if they only ever play the 'planning the party' thread.

Getting a 'throw away' plot idea, then opening a thread and asking someone who you think might like to join, to do so in the 'title description box' is fine.

I.E Jane Doe works in a bar, John Doe posts in there that he's waiting to be served by the brown haired waitress called Jane... she's pretty, but since John's gay, then he's only wanting a 'drink and barstaff' thread, not anything that could lead to more threads... meaning its a 'throwaway' plot.

Right of refusal

All players have the right to decline to play in any thread, for whatever reason they like, they do not need to explain why they are declining the offer to play.

Posting a name in a title description box, or sending a pm (etc) with a suggestion for a thread is only an 'offer to play', the other person does not have to take it up.

Rating

Our rating is PG-13 for both the boards and the c-box.

Note: We have a URL linked section that is password protected for adult themed threads, please PM a member of staff for the URL / Password to start a thread in there, or if your thread needs to be moved to there.

No excessive swearing

A little swearing never hurt, and can be pretty expressive, but too much is just pointless. So keep it to a minimum, even in the Rated area.

No obvious flaming.

If you have a problem with another member, take it out with them using the PM system.

(If you feel it warrants it, please contact an admin to intercede.)

No prejudice

At least, no out-of-character prejudice. In character, prejudice can be used as a basis for a thread. OOC it's just ignorance, be it agism, racism, sexism or whatever.

Canon Guidelines
Please see the below two posts, for information regarding who is a canon on site and how often play is expected from the various canons.

Original character -- Guidelines
Please see the last post for information regarding activity levels.

Note: We have decided to no longer use these guidelines, but reserve the right to bring them back into play, should be feel the need, to free up play-by claims.

In character posts -- Guidelines

While we do not have any rules on minimum post length, we do ask that you please follow the below list, since it helps make others want to post with you.
A.) Please do not use incredibly long paragraphs, these are not easy to digest, so can slow down or stop play.

We ask that you use no more than 14 lines per paragraph, to aid in this. We prefer easy to read posts, rather than 'perfect' composition, so break up very long paragraphs, please.

B.) No 'text' speak, unless that part of your post is a text.

These are the guidelines for the boards, not following them will result in warnings, be they 'verbal' and or added to a members warning count and, if need be, sanctions against a members account/s.

On very rare occasions a member may be banned from the board (and c-box).

FYI:
Those members with more than one account, we treat all the accounts as one, so warnings on one will be noted should they gain warnings on others, sanctions cover all accounts.

Canons guidelines

If you are playing a canon, then you must be active with that person, unless they are on the exceptions list below.

Active: Posting as that character with no more than a 1 or 2 month hiatus. (please inform us if not going to be posting.)

Note: For major plots, if you are away, or not able to post a needed canon, then that person will be NPC-d by others.

Main Characters (for site purposes) = Max, 09-ers, Alec, Logan, Joshua, Sketchy and Original Cindy.

No more than one month of being on hiatus:
  • Max
  • Logan
  • Alec
No more than two months of being on hiatus:
  • Zack
  • Eva (resurrected for the site)
  • Jondy
  • Tinga (resurrected for the site)
  • Zane
  • Sketchy

Those exempt from the rules, due to really only being needed as 'foils' are:
  • Sam X5-453
  • Ames White
  • Colonel Lydecker
  • Case Smith
  • Biggs (resurrected for the site)
  • Asha

If not on the list, assume they fall into the last category.

Canons of course should remain true to their personalities on the show.

Notes on site canons

For the purposes of this site only the television show is considered canon, not the novels or Eyes Only Dossier. (Many people have not read the novels / dossier, and there are inconsistencies with the books and the show.)

Also considered canon is the information that we have posted to aid in game play, that expands the Dark Angel universe and allows for so many Transgenics, as well as making the Familiars into more of an ancient people, with a cultural structure etc, please follow that information. (This information is known as site canon, members making up units also comes under 'site canon', why these are documented on site as existing and are free for anyone to join, using the 'rules' set in place by the person who made the unit up, so that they fit its profile.)

Note: For reasons of making sense, we have altered two things within the show. (as well as allowing some 'dead' characters to be resurrected.)

1.) Lydecker knew of the clones of the 09 escapees, its nonsensical that he did not, one can only assume that the clone 'brainwave' happened after Season 1 was filmed.

2.) We have altered the practice of the majority of Familiars killing the first two children after they are born, they still kill the first two, but during pregnancy, this is because it makes far more sense to cause miscarriages with certain herbs etc, (they would want to get the third child as soon as possible afterall) and is less noticeable, especially from the 1980s onwards when more than one death by SIDs would raise eyebrows and cause questions. (Its known that after the events of 9/11 that plots had to be changed you'll have noticed that anything 'terrorist' was dropped, it is not a hard assumption to make that White, although introduced in season 2, was not supposed to be revealed as being of an ancient people and the true enemy of humankind, until season 3, when it makes more sense for the Familiars to have been introduced. Season 2 was meant to be about the Transgenics being freed etc.)

Note: We still allow the killing of born infants in a couple of circumstances: (this does not include those not authorised to be born by the Conclave, all those are to be killed as you wish, they have a death sentence on them no matter what if located at any age.)
A.) The one doing so is a real hard liner on keeping to the old ways, (Infanticide was common in many cultures, and not really deemed wrong, until quite recently on a historical scale), not something found a few centuries ago (remember the Familiars are supposed to be what remains of the Minoan people, so have been around for a few milenia.)
B.) The child is a third, or later, birth, so wanted, but is not perfect, deformed, mentally disabled, etc, then it would be euthanaised.

Because we are not using the novels or dossier as canon, this means that the characters introduced or mentioned in those are not considered canon, so are exempt from the canon rules.
  • Seth
  • Jewel
  • Keema
  • Lane
  • Devon

Members are allowed a maximum of 3 canons, subject to admin approval... i.e we know you can play them and that you will be able to play that many.

To make things fair on new members, you may reserve a canon, but this is voided after a month, and can not be reapplied for, until 2 months have passed, (out of date reserves will be kept on the list, but struck through.)

Max's unit / Alec's unit

To make it fair on new people joining the site, we are limiting the number of characters one person may have in Max's unit (09 escapees and those who got left behind) and Alec's unit (the clones of the 09-ers etc.) The maximum people in each of those units is 24, or it just gets ridiculous.
  • You may not have more than 2 characters in either unit
  • You may have a maxium of 3 characters between the two units.
  • You may still reserve a place in those units, but this is voided after a month, and can not be reapplied for, until 2 months have passed. (out of date reserves will be kept on the list, but struck through.)

Reserving people for avatars.

We are establishing a new rule for this, to make it fairer on members (new and old) getting the 'face' they want.
  • You may still reserve anyone you wish, but this is voided after a month and can not be reapplied for, until 2 months have passed. (out of date reserves will be kept on the list, but struck through.)

Original Character guidelines

Due to Original Characters being created and then not being played or only being played a few times during the duration of Polo Loco V.1.

We are implementing two new rules:
  • Original Characters must be played at least once every four months either in a thread with another character/s or in a No reply needed (NRN) thread. If there is no activity for this character during the four months then their bio will be moved to archives and the face claim will be available for other members to claim. If they are not claimed within two weeks then you may claim your 'face claim' back, you will of course be able to re-activate your bio before this.
  • If the member has been absent for 2 months, and not posted a note or let an admin know they will be absent, then we will assume they no longer wish to be a member and remove their characters to archives and free up their face (and designation) claims.
Clones and twins will be exempt from these rule, unless in the very unlikely circumstance that both are inactive for four months.

Revision: Due to real life being a pain and characters just not playing for so many people, we are no longer applying these rules. Instead characters will be permanently archived and their claims removed only if the player has not actually posted in RP threads or vanishes with no contact for months.
