History: The lab techs that created X5-959’s cocktail blessed her with a vast array of powerful, aggressive animals, and the superiors at Manticore Colorado, where 959 was born, designated her a Solo Ops right from birth. They expected her rather aggressive animal DNA to give her an edge, one that they didn’t want “wasted” in a unit environment. So when she was old enough, they placed her into her single-cell and awaited her inevitable rise to murderous glory. 959 filled her superior’s hopes, passing through combat training with power that didn’t match her dainty figure. Manticore was all set to promptly start her on missions at 18.
They sent X5-959 under the alias of a senior at high school, “Lisa Keeler” to the city of Ashland, Kentucky. Her mission was to simply gather information on Mayor June and his family, marking down their routine. 959 knew exactly what she was doing; preparing the way for an older X5 to later come and likely kill the entire family. The mayor's 18 year old son Roger happened the be the first person she talked to on her first cover day, having came up and talked to her, mistaking her last name for “Keely,” the nickname that has stuck ever since. 959 took the opportunity and became fast friends with him, and eventually his family. It was the first time she actually felt any other emotion besides pain and emptiness.
She couldn’t give Manticore the information she had, but she knew warning the family in any way would not end up well for her. So 959 did the only thing she could think of… escape. From then on she traveled across the U.S, never staying in one spot too long, always going by the name of Ashland June (more frequently by Keely), to remind her of the city and the family that taught her about love and happiness.
Eventually Ashland found herself in Seattle, where information about the Terminal City transgenic population has given her hope of again finding that sense of love.
