The cab from the train station had been slow and silent, but it had been decided that Cameron could use his skills to make his way to his cousin's house rather than being picked up. They were trying to encourage him to be resourceful and independent, after all, if he was to be any kind of intelligence agent then getting from the centre of Seattle to his cousin's house should not be an issue. And, indeed, it wasn't. Taxis were rare and exorbitant, but now that he was here he wouldn't need to take another one. His bulky stuff was to have been delivered in advance, so his quad bike and his push bike should both have arrived by now, and all he was carrying with him was a suitcase of clothes and a few books. The first actual problem was going to be getting to his other stuff.
Paying the taxi driver and getting his stuff out of the car, he pulled his luggage to the gate and pressed the button on the gate to get buzzed in. He didn't know if he was early or not, but it didn't really matter since he was here now, and they would all have to jusr try to get on with life as best they could.

Nate was waiting in the lounge for word that Cameron Archer had arrived. The teen was a cousin, as were all Familiars to varying degrees, the boy just happened to be closer than most. Although his kinship was not the reason he was now under Dante and by extension Nate's care, no it was his precocious talents that saw the boy being placed in the leader of the Warrior Caste's household.
Nate heard the buzz of the gate and one of the staff answering and letting the youth in. He then moved to greet the boy at the door, acting in Dante's stead because he had been called away on Warrior Caste business.
The priest moved with a confident air and opened the front door and smiled in welcome at the latest member of the family to be assigned to Seattle and billeted at Dante's estate.
"Welcome Cameron, I'm Nate, Dante was called away on some unexpected Warrior caste business." He stated affably as he held out his hand and only then did he give the teen the correct greeting. "Fe' nes'tol."

Cameron smiled at the member of staff who let him in the gate, more out of politeness than anything else, and declined an offer of help up to the main house with his luggage. He left that on the back doorstep of the gatehouse, with correctly worded orders that the gate house be prepared for his use rather than rooms in the main house. By properly worded, he meant he said please and thank you; he knew he had a cousin here who was less than polite when it came to just about everything but that didn't mean that he had to be a brat too.
He made his way up to the drive and was greeted by another cousin, told that Dante was away on other business. Cam could live with that; neither Dante nor Nate were his caste leaders, so he didn't have to formally report to them, just deal with them on an informal level at meal times and so on. He wasn't here to spy on them, they were as loyal as they came everyone knew, He was just here to observe and to learn.
"Fe' nes'tol, cousin," he replied, when the proper greeting was given. "I hope everything is going smoothly here."
Faolan Blake - June 1, 2011 04:10 PM (GMT)
Nate's lips quirked in slight amusement. "As smoothly as can be expected when we find ourselves entertaining various relatives." He replied as he moved to allow the teen entrance to the house.
"You are no doubt aware that Sen Trevelyan-Templeton and Katerina Brooks-Templeton are both also in residence." He stated since as one of the intelligence caste deemed suitable for a mission at his young age, he should have been informed of those staying with Dante.

Cam smiled a little sheepishly as Nate mentioned lots of relatives being entertained, raising an eyebrow when Katerina was mentioned. He had heard that she was to be paired with Nate himself, but the most current word he had on her was that the pair of them had decided that it was wrong. They were too close in blood or something, which he guessed should have been thought of before they sent her out here. Obviously they had found someone or something else for her to do out here. H e would have to check, when he could.
"I was aware that Sebastian was here," he said, with a grim tightening of his lips. He and his older Priest cousin did not get on. "So I told the man who let me in to have the gatehouse prepared for my stay. No doubt seb would think me here to spy on the lot of you, even though that is far from the truth. I'm just here to learn, that's all. The University of Seattle finds having a thirteen year old student in it's ranks to be good press."
Faolan Blake - July 4, 2011 12:12 PM (GMT)
Nate was not surprised to note the slight tightening of Cam's lips when he spoke of Seb, the pair grated on each other. He looked bemused then smiled. "Likely for the best, relations are strained enough in the household at present." He replied with a slightly resigned smile.
"Seb will behave or find himself having to live permanently with the Phalanx team he's been detailed to." He stated firmly, going into priest mode where he had full authority to order his nephew to move out of Dante's home. He then relaxed and smiled at the boy. "You'll have no issues with Dante or myself as for Kat... I'm not sure, she seems ok though."
He looked off into the distance as if debating something then looked back at the teen. "You might as well hear from me rather than third hand. I've refused to marry Kat, the close kinship was troubling from the stated pairing but seeing her... She looks like an older version of my daughter." He stated knowing that with the boy he'd not have to explain why he baulked at the pairing.
Nate then moved. "I'll show you around, you'll want to use the various recreational areas in the main house, I can copy you on Seb's schedule so you can avoid him. You are of course welcome and expected to join us for dinner most evenings..."

Cam listened as Nate talked, nodding in silence where he agreed, keeping his opinion to himself where he didn't. He had been raised to be polite to his elders, and that alone explained why Seb had never found himself the victim of the kinds of pranks that an adept young Intelligence caste Familiar could come up with. Cam didn't see why he should be the kind of brat that his cousin was.
"I had already heard about the... issue with your pairing with Kat," he admitted. "I am in Intelligence, after all."
A rare smile came as he realised that Nate had trusted him with the information anyway; Cam was a serious boy and all who met him knew it. The breeders were ruing the loss of his father as a breeder, he had been told, but he didn't know who his father was. The man's name was not on his birth certificate, and the breeders' records were closed even to him. Apparently the man was still alive, but refusing to take another mate and proving adept at avoiding their teams sent out to bring him back for stud. Cam was almost proud of the man, although he would hardly mourn his passing. His father was human, after all. Not everyone was blessed with a Familiar mother as he had been.
"A tour would be pleasant," he continued. "And food would be good. I'm afraid my appetite is black hole like."
Faolan Blake - July 7, 2011 07:11 PM (GMT)
Nate nodded, then smiled slightly as he realised it had dawned on the boy that he had trusted him anyway. He said nothing more on the matter, knowing that Cam would hear the outcome not long after he did, he could only pray to the Goddess that his arguments were heard and accepted and that as much as he hated to do it to her, Kat was paired with Seb. Although he and Dante were hoping that the pairing might work for the better on him, at least the children would be raised by Kat, that was a good thing.
He laughed, a natural and good natured laugh. "Nothing to be sorry for, we'll start the tour in the kitchen and you can also pack up from there what you'll need for the gatehouse." He replied smiling at the boy as he gestured for him to enter the house.

"My mother has allotted me a weekly living allowance," Cam commented, as he entered the house and his cousin led on towards the kitchen. "So I'll be mostly eating breakfast in the gate house and lunch at university. but I can grab bed linen and stuff I guess, unless you keep some in the gatehouse already?"
He was from a rich family, but he hadn't been spoiled the way Seb had been. He made his own bed for the most part, and knew his way around both an oven and a sink, although his ability to use a washing machine when one was available to him was still a little on the hazy side. They used too much electricity for him to use one regularly, so mostly he'd was stuff in the sink or the bath and hang them out to dry, like most people did.
"Do you have internet access reworked up here?" he asked, not sure what facilities the huge house might have. "Or would I need to set that up myself in the gatehouse?"
Faolan Blake - July 25, 2011 05:41 PM (GMT)
Nate glanced at the young man. "As you wish. It's not in use, so I'd assume not I was not here when Dante rented the place so only know its furnished." He replied.
Nate smiled at the internet question, it was a little bemused. "We've a first class set up in the house, Dante had that sorted before we moved in." He did not add why, it was after all essential for The Conclave members to be in contact with each other and their subbordinates at all times. He then frowned a little. "I believe there is 'net access in the gatehouse, although I do not know to what level." He replied as he pushed the door open to the kitchen.
Nate smiled politely at the housekeeper. "Cameron, this is Marguerite our housekeeper, if you're unable to shop due to time restraints, just give her your want list and your budget and she'll handle that for you."
Reaper - August 22, 2011 11:38 AM (GMT)
"I shall check what access I have in the gatehouse," Cameron said, as Nate informed him that he wasn't sure what was available. He would have checked anyway regardless of what the man said, it was his calling to check things. He might have to make a few adjustments, but he doubted they would be too difficult. He had heard that Dante was a capable man, and that was pretty high praise in Familiar circles.
He smiled at the housekeeper, and not knowing if she was familiar or not just nodded as Nate told him that she was at the very least trustworthy, that he could give her money and get things in return. That was good, that was helpful. Some of his studies would be draining, even for one with a Familiar intelligence, and having someone to help with more difficult chores like shopping, which could be awkward for a teenager. Nobody trusted teenagers, especially not the intelligent ones. He would be able to get out of the hands of those assigned to round up transgenics because he had the mark on his arm and knew the right language, but it was still an inconvenience to be treated like a transgenic when he most definitely wasn't that.
"Nice to meet you Margeurite," he said, politely. "May I make myself a sandwich?"
He knew that he was technically the boss and she was the employee, but he was aware also that she was more established here than he was, and it was polite to ask. You could get away with a lot if you were polite.
Faolan Blake - August 24, 2011 01:28 PM (GMT)
Nate nodded with a slight smile. "If it's not set up you can use the access here until it can be sorted." He offered knowing that Dante would not mind such that the man would have offered that himself in his stead.
Margeurite smiled at him. "Fe'nos'tol Cameron... please do." She replied her accent betraying a Scottish upbringing for all her name was French. She had been housekeeper to Dante for almost two decades, Conclave members rarely employed non Familiars in their households unless it was a match too good to pass up for their employee then they had to abide by the Breeders wishes.
Dante approached from behind them, having returned and been informed by his personal assistant that Cameron and Nate were in the kitchen. The staff were very good at keeping out of the way, while keeping an eye on things.
Nate turned to look at the kitchen door as he recognised his cousin's soft footfalls. He smiled again as the older man entered the room. "We were just going to have a sandwich, want one?" He asked as Marguirte knowing she was not needed made a discreet exit via another door to do some work elsewhere in the house until her domain was once more her own.
Reaper - September 6, 2011 01:05 PM (GMT)
Cameron smiled winningly at Margeurite as he made his way to the fridge, looking through it for ingredients that suited his palette. He was told that he had his father's smile, often as he was clipped around the ear for using it; the Breeders he knew told him that it was a heart breaker's smile, and that though he was a blood Royal he should be wary of using it. He used it here, though; Margeurite wasn't going to fall for it in that way and his cousins were unlikely to reprimand him for it.
He turned as Nate talked to Dante, arm piled up with food that could go in a sandwich, and bowed his head in a quick nod to the older of the two men as Margeurite left.
"Fe'nos'tol, cousin," he said, politely. "Thank you for allowing me to stay."
Faolan Blake - September 25, 2011 05:47 PM (GMT)
Nate blinked at the smile that Cam gave to Margurite. [color=darkred]Thank the goddess Mari is still to young for crushes... I hope... He then frowned slightly as the smile tugged at his mind, but then he shook it off because all Familiars were related to various degrees and it was not unusual for features to tug at memory, some family lines were known for certain features like the Kilgannon eyes.
His focus was drawn to Dante as the older man entered and he greeted him.
Dante looking exactly like his surname of Debonnaire gave Nate a half smile. "Sounds good, thanks Nate." He stated to his younger cousin, his interest and focus more on the youth who was his latest house guest.
Dante looked the teen over as he said the normal greeting, he nodded his head slightly. "Fe'nos tol Cameron, I could hardly refuse." He drawled then to show he did not mind having yet another guest he smiled at the boy unknowingly mirroring the youth's smile of mere moments earlier.
Nate's focus was on getting foodstuff to make sandwiches for himself and Dante, so he did not see the smile that both males shared that had been the cause for the disquiet he had felt moments earlier but shrugged off.
