Let's Get Ztarted, Johto trainers

Shiro glanced down at the Spinirak still in his hands. "This is becoming quite interesting," he said with a smile. "You should consider coming with us after this mess is over. You get to travel and see all kinds of things."

He looked up just in time to see Phoon bring down the Ariados with a Fury Swipes right to the face. He could hear Mitch giving instructions to Chomper, who seemed dazed and in serious trouble.

"Awesome job," he grinned to Phoon, who lifted his head up. "Now lets go help out Chomper! Use a Fury Swipes on that Parasect; get in as many hits as you can so we can take this thing down!" Phoon jumped up on the Ariados and sprang off, flying right onto the giant mushroom Pokemon to deliver a Fury Swipes attack.

This was definitely a story he'd bring home. He'd be sketching scenes from this for weeks!

Mint's first concern was her Sentret.

"Ego!" She cried out. "Are you all right?" The Sentret waggled around, completely confused. "This is looking bad," she murmured. She wanted Sentret to gain the experience, so it could reach level 10 like her others, and then focus on Canae. It looked like that might not happen.

Very grateful for Shiro's successful Fury Attack, she said, "All right Ego," she said, "Let's try and his Parasect with a Quick Attack! If you can't manage, I'll switch you out!"

Ego stumbled for a moment, and his attack hung in the balance.

'Come on,' she thought, hands clenched into fists, 'You can do this. Just one little Quick Attack plus the boy's attacks should bring this thing down!'

As Mitchel called out to his blue reptile friend. Totodile jumped in the air as high as it could and released a powerful water gun attack. Because of the current rage attacks, the boost to Chomper's attack power was high. However, due to Parasect being part grass the water gun wouldn't do much damage. The water gun splashed into Parasect but left it standing by a long shot. Soon, Chomper began feeling pain from the poison once again. The Parasect sent a psybeam attack that blasted Chomper once more. This match was far from over!

Next came Mint. Her eagerness for Ego to attack the parasite was strong. Luckily the confusion wore off just in time for Ego to smash into the parasite with a powerful quick attack. This did not, however, go well for the sentret. The Parasect was shook by the attack and let off a powerful spore on the squirrel and left it paralyzed. Ego couldn't move his body. This left him wide open. The Parasect lunged another Psybeam attack and blasted the sentret all the way into Mitchel's arms knocking him off his feet. Lucky for Sentret, if Mitchel hadn't caught him he'd be in serious pain right now.

Phoon was angered. From his trainer's commands Cyndaquil launched itself on top of the Parasect and slashed as hard as it could on the Parasect. The fury swipes were strong but not strong enough. Suddenly the Parasect released a spore that sprayed directly in Phoon's face. The spore put Phoon directly to sleep. This was bad. With Phoon right there the Parasect began using a leech life on the mouse. Phoon best get away quick or his life would be sucked.

[Mitchel Suko]

Mitch watched terrified as Chomper began to get hurt even more by the poison. To make things even worse, Chomper was slammed by a psybeam which caused him to soar. Mitchel couldn't bare this, it was nearly time to switch Chomper out for Freema. At least she'd have a better chance against a grass and bug type. Chomper couldn't take much more. Mitch watched as the totodile struggled to stand up.

When Mitchel turned to yell at the Parasect, he saw Ego fly into the air by the Parasect's beam attack. The sentret flew right into Mitchel where Mitch caught the squirrel in his arms before his back hit the ground. This was bad. The Parasect was angry. The ariados lie next to it unconscious. Mitchel stood up with the paralyzed Sentret in his arms. He looked around until he noticed the Spinarak that lay upon Shrio's arms.

"Shiro... the only way to make them stop is to give back their kid! That's why they're angry!" Mitchel cried.

But suddenly it didn't seem that the Parasect was fighting for its baby anymore. It seemed to be fighting because it wanted to fight. Mitchel paused and stared at the Parasect. What could he do? He didn't want to fight like this anymore... it wasn't right. Mitchel looked down at the Sentret that he kept in his arms. Finally he made a decision. Mitch walked over to Mint and gave her back Ego. He walked over to Chomper and stared deeply into the crocodile's eyes.

"Chomper. Are you willing to finish this fight?" He asked knowingly that the water Pokemon was poisoned.

"Toto, toto, to-to-DILE!" The pokemon screamed as it stood up. The pokemon began to glow with a blue aura around it. Mitchel knew this had to be it. Chomper's torrent ability was finally activated. Mitchel nodded.

"Alright then."

He and Chomper walked over until they stood face to face with the Ariados.

"Let's do this! Chomper, use water gun attack go!"

"Totodile!!!"

Shiro looked over at Chomper as he got ready to use the Water Gun. He'd stiffled a laugh as he saw Sentret crash into Mitchel; it was something he'd have to remember for a later sketch.

Knowing there was only one way he could aid Mitch and Chomper, he quickly pulled his Full Heal out of his backpack and sprayed it on Phoon. "All right little buddy," he said, "Get up and go give that Parasect another Fury Swipes! Help Chomper bring down this big guy!"

Phoon shook its head of drowsiness and the fire on its back flared up as it charged excitedly into battle for another Fury Swipes.

"Ego!!"

The Sentret had given the Quick Attack yes; and rid itself of confusion, but it was delivered a Psybeam and it flew backwards right into Mitch. "Ego, Ego! Are you all right?" she squealed.

Running over to meet Mitch halfway, she eagerly took the injured Pokemon. "Ego, can you still fight?" The Sentret seemed confident now that it had shaken its confusion. Even though it had a 25% chance of not moving, Mint wasn't about to let some stupid overgrown mushroom beat the crap out of her partners.

"You filthy slime," she snapped, glaring with eyes that could have been smoldering ashes. "You'll pay for doing so much damage!" She threw the Sentret up and towards the Parasect.

"Ego! Show that stupid bug what you're made of with a Quick Attack!"

Quick as he could Shiro ran up to his shiny Cyndaquil and sprayed an infection healing, full heal, antidote that awoke Phoon immediately. Phoon shook the nerves off himself regaining his full consciousness. The Parasect stood there staring at the three Pokemon that stood in his way. The Pokemon and their trainers had full confidence to defeat this parasite. It was no longer fighting for its child. It was now just fighting to fight. Shiro, Mitchel and Mint had best give it all they've got to finish this Pokemon.

The Parasect released a massive Psybeam attack directly at Chomper and Phoon. With great determination, the two Pokemon jumped quickly out of the way letting the beam strike the tree that stood behind them. Now the battle was raging on. Mint furious as she was took her Sentret, Ego, and threw him at the parasite commanding him to use a quick attack. Phoon charged soon after with a fury swipes attack that landed directly on the Parasect. With just a few hit points left, Chomper finished the battle with one shot.

Chomper released his strongest water gun attack that struck the Parasect in his center core, knocking him off balance and sending him off slamming into the tree. The Parasect was unconscious and lost the battle leaving Chomper and Mitchel, Phoon and Shiro, and Ego and Mint the victorious winners of this battle. Chomper jumped to the ground and ran into Mitchel's arms unexpectedly to him.

The baby Spinarak jumped out of Shiro's arms and ran over to it's father Parasect and mother Ariados making sure that the Spinarak's parents were simply alright. Chomper, poisoned as he was, laid his head upon Mitchel's chest and gazed into a deep sleep. Followed by Ego's paralysis, the squirrel managed to reach Mint's arms and too fell asleep. Leaving Phoon by Shiro's feet watching the baby bug.

[Mitchel Suko]

Mitchel watched from the sidelines as the three Pokemon finished off the giant, mushroom parasite that had been attacking them. Chomper released his water gun knocking the Parasect out cold. Mitchel smiled for the Pokemon as they finished this match without being knocked out. Now Mitchel had a new concern. Chomper was poisoned and he needed to heal his Pokemon. The small, blue, Totodile jumped into Mitch's arms and fell asleep.

Mitchel pulled out an antidote from his bag and sprayed the healing potion on Chomper. Next he pulled out his potion which healed Chomper's stats and health. After putting the bottles into his backpack to throw away in the next city, Mitchel picked up the small reptile and walked over to the Ariados and Parasect. He pulled out some pokemon food and fed it to the Spinarak's parents. Mitchel sighed as he looked at the bug Pokemon.

"Look. We didn't mean to start a fight with you guys, honestly. We just found your baby wondering around. I apologize for anything we did to harm or offend you." Mitchel said.

Mitchel looked at his Totodile that was still sleeping upon his arms. Turning to the Spinarak and smiled and nodded. Standing up he turned to look at Mint and Shiro to see what had become of Ego and Phoon. Phoon seemed pretty healthy but Ego was still paralyzed. If Mitch had any paralyze or full heal he would have lent it to Mint himself.

Shiro assessed the damage to Phoon, Chomper and Ego silently to himself. Mitchel seemed to take care of Chomper by himself, and though Phoon was hurt, he wasn't as badly hurt as Ego was; the poor thing had only a few hit points left and it was paralyzed. Shiro knelt down to Phoon and held out the pokeball.

"Thanks, Phoon, you did a great job," he smiled, before returning the fire mouse. He stood up and stretched before addressing Mint and Ego. Pulling a potion out of his backpack, he didn't hesitate to spray the contents onto the squirrel.

"For backup," he said simply, "Just in case. I doubt you'll need to use Ego again, but I'd rather not take the chance. Besides, its hurt; and its better that it at least regains some health if I can't heal the paralysis." Discarding the used item into his backpack to wait until he found a trash can in the next city, he mused over the battle and looked at the Spinirak.

"If you'd like to come with me," he said, addressing it, "I'd love it. But I understand if you want to stay here, with your parents."

Mint held Ego close and tried to figure out what to do. She wished she had a pokemon that knew a healing move, but alas. The only helpful item she had didn't apply to paralysis, so she was out of luck. About to apologize softly and return Ego, Shiro announced his presence by walking over and spraying Ego with a potion. Mint's eyes widened and she gaped, unable to say anything to stop him and tell him to use it on his pokemon instead of hers.

"For backup, just in case. I doubt you'll need to use Ego again, but I'd rather not take the chance. Besides, its hurt; and its better that it at least regains some health if I can't heal the paralysis." He walked off to speak with the baby Spinirak, leaving Mint in awe.

'I can't believe he just did that,' she thought, 'Helping Ego out like that...'

"Thank you Ego," she whispered, "You did fantastic. I promise we'll cure your paralysis as soon as we can." She returned the scout pokemon and walked over to Shiro. Not really knowing what to do as he waited for the Spinirak to make its decision, she put her hand on his shoulder and thanked him quietly before going over to wait by Mitchel.

"It looks like Chomper's doing a lot better now," she smiled. "We had a tough battle!"

Mitchel walked up to Chomper and began petting his head. He did an amazing job out there. His power was unbelievable. It was surprisingly strong but without the other guys' help they would have lost no doubt about it. Mitch watched as Shiro lent Mint a paralyze heal as if trying to be boyfriend material... show off! he thought to himself. He then noticed Mint walking over to him.

"It looks like Chomper's doing a lot better now, we had a tough battle!" she said.

"Yeah, he's fine. A little soar on the arm but he's good right buddy. That battle though I don't think would have happened if we hadn't spotted that Spinarak. But now we need to worry about what the Spinarak will do. Think it'll follow us and go with Shiro?" He asked a bit worried.

The Spinarak just sat there looking at Shiro. It looked a bit worried about it parents but she wasn't paying attention to them. The Spinarak left Shiro and ran over to her parents but it was a shock to see this. The Ariados and Parasect were telling the Spinarak to leave with them. Mitchel was in awe at this. The Spinarak hugged her parents and scurried over to Shiro and jumped onto his shoulder. The Spinarak was definitely leaving with them.

Coming up to the three of them were the parents as well. They were holding berries on their backs and offered each of them to the trainers. Each trainer took three berries from the bugs. This was a final farewell to their baby and a trust to the trainers. Waving good-bye the Ariados spit it's web and swung up the tree and the Parasect climbed. Mitch looked at the berries each of them had at least one different berry.

"Mint your persim berry looks like a nose."

CONGRATS! SHIRO CAUGHT SPINARAK... NiCkNaMe?

"Aww, cool," Shiro exclaimed as the Spinirak crawled up to his shoulder. "When you evolve, you'll be a hard opponent to beat in contests. "Your name...I'll call you Aru." Shiro decided to let Aru hang out on his shoulder for a bit, as she was unharmed and if they ran into any more trouble, he could try her on as a battle partner.

Shiro bowed respectfully to Aru's parents as they retreated into the trees, and he took a glance at Mitch and Mint. He made that notion that her persim berry had the likeness of a nose, and Shiro laughed. "Well, doesn't that go for all persim berries? It's not like yours looks any better, Mitch. You sure know how to charm." He gave another snicker and walked on.

"If you two are ready to move on, so am I. Unless you want to rest a moment. I think you're both anxious to get to your gym battle though..."

"Aru? That's such a cute name! Like 'arachnid', but more feminine." She was glad that Shiro had backed her up and stood up for her even with something as trivial as the berry; it made her feel a lot less liable to get angry--which tended to happen often, what with her fiery temper. However, she was at a loss for words when he added on the part about charming...

...these two weren't fighting over her, were they? ...Of course not, what a silly notion.

"I really would like to get to my gym battle," Mint admitted, "But I'm not sure if my team is strong enough. I mean, I have confidence in them, but...it would crush me to lose on my very first official battle. I'd feel like I let down my team, too, and it'd be horribly embarrassing..."

Mitchel glared at Shiro. This was beginning to get very irritating with him. Mitchel picked up his Totodile and walked up next to Mint who seemed a bit frustrated about the fact that she thought she had let her team down for not training them very well. Mitchel sighed and put his hand on Mint's shoulder. He wanted to comfort her the best way he could to make her feel more confident.

"Mint look at your Pokemon. Strength isn't everything. The important thing about having Pokemon is making friendship with them and raising their happiness towards you. Looking at all of your Pokemon they seem pretty happy just to be with you. Strength-wise, look at your Beedrill. You managed to evolve it all the way from a Weedle didn't you? They say Pokemon evolve a lot better by happiness than by strength when they reach their designated level. Beedrill could have chosen to remain a Kakuna but when it knew you were in danger or that you were happy it evolved to help protect and/or battle for you."

He looked at Totodile who was smiling at Mitch. Chomper had liked what he had said. Mitch thought about his Butterfree as well. Freema was all the way from Caterpie... the first Pokemon he caught by himself! Surely what he said was true. Mitch looked from Chomper and back to Mint realizing that he hadn't seen one of her Pokemon in action.

"What about your Poochyena? Do you really want to raise him higher levels? If you do I say we find a tough, strong looking Pokemon or trainer to battle and use Poochyena! If he gets to a low enough health switch him out and defeat the opponent. He'll still gain experience which will still help him level up won't it. I'll help you in anyway possible. Even if it means battling me yourself!"

And he kept his word.
