Allow me to add my .02:

Since this forum has but twenty members (at the time of this post), there is no logical reason to add staff members other than the board's Signature Team. There is barely anything to moderate around here. It like having really awesome powers and not being able to use them for any good.

Staff members should be fully concentrated on the goal of the forum and their own input as well. Being a moderator is not all "flashing the Net Badge and dragging people off to jail (RO or Ban)".

Besides, every staff member turns into a Bad Guy eventually. You'll see what I mean when this forum spikes in both number of registered users and number of posts a day ("interactions", if you will.)

It'll happen. wink.gif

But from personal view, I've seen many boards such as this one with around 15-20 members, damn near all of them staff members. Can you guess what happened? The board flopped, and I'm not referring to a hamburger flop, I'm referring to a fish out of water flop.

Also, with your advertising strategies: you need to convince people to come here. You need to lay out the groundwork.... "why should people choose PixelbypixelGFX (with only twenty members) over let's say, Pixel2Life (with 3k+ members)?" You need something appealing... and the chance to be a staff member, while appealing, is a wrong reason for joining a forum in the first place. Forum hoppers are always bad.

From someone who's been at the "front lines", take this post however you want.

i understand what you mean but i think oblivion picked most of us because he knows us from gfxvoid - when this forum gets well underway (100+ members) it will be good to have someone you can rely on to moderate rather than have some new person you have never seen before on any forum

I understand that, but the first moderator commission I've ever received came to me at GS200, where barely anyone knew me. But in time, as I've kept the forum clean of spam, I was a well respected member.

Relying on people you know from other boards or personally is a way to go, but it doesn't exactly mean it's the right way to go.

I personally wouldn't allow any of my friends to take mod positions (if I ever have a forum...heheh) because I do not pick people based on my affiliation with them, but of their self-discipline with such powers over regular members.

Again, that's just me. wink.gif

I would never turn in to a bad guy ^^, I'm just helpful and good. But I really see what you mean and I agree with some of it, and at the same time I agree with deep blue, that we will be needed to operate the forum later when there's much more members.

At the time we don't do much, but we will later, at least I think so.

i dont think that they got their mods based on affiliation, but rather on activeness and skill that they have seen from gfxvoid.

We dont really have any people to mod for, we all know a msg board pretty much. Soon we will get more and more people, from our tuts and stuff.
