Name: “Sev”, “SevAn”, or “S.A.N.E.” (Severely Animalistic Nanite Enclave)

Age: 2

Race: Nanobot Swarm –
Close to an actual android, nanotechnologies greatest achievement was the production of microscopic robots on the molecular level. Alone one nanobot is vulnerable, weak and incapable of most of its possibilities. Even a small cluster of a thousand barely makes up the tip of a sewing needle. But when they’re combined with millions, they look like a small swarm of bees, or even a lone black cloud. These creatures serve a multitude of purposes, science fiction stating them to be weapons use to augment human capabilities. Crawling inside the body, they can do extensive body enhancement and give super human reflexes all thanks to their quick-witted programming and coding, not to mention any other capabilities that vary from story to story. Some use them as mobile cameras, cloaking devices, armor suits and at times they’ve been known to amass in super clusters and ravage the country in a near unstoppable form due to their incredibly small scale. Ravenous for electronics, most nanobots in fiction eat every computer chip, memory chip, processor and motherboard alike, whereas some feed on human waste such as skin cells and other body products, others just require solar energy or other types of power source.

And today, nanotechnology is barely reaching its optimum potential. Sadly most nanobots in this era are capable of just cameras and medical work, the occasional beta-tested armor units failing on their first test runs. Some companies have nanotech deeply under the table and most of their employees aren’t even aware of it. Something that secretive must be good, right? Most are now are in a sort of “arms race” to see who can maximize the abilities of nanobots so they can in turn strengthen their military forces. Not limited to, but definitely including lasers, energy redirection, absorption and ability “copying”, fully learning like an A.I. and some nanobots even able to run programs that give them animalistic behaviors. The future is a scary place and all that fiction you read as a kid just might be happening too soon.

Description:
Not holding much of an “appearance”, Sev as it likes to be referred to is a swarm in all sense. A like a converging mass of black, the nanoparticles resemble a giant black cloud full of what can only be described as “industrial heavy metal and techno”. Constant whirring and clanging with thrumming like no other, the machine can be quite loud, but only when angry. Normally moving in a sleek black tendril, these little creatures have the mannerisms of a snake on the hunt, keeping low to the ground and ever alert of its surroundings. Yet the actual attack will invariably come down to the collective mind of “Sev” to forming a black cloak that falls on its prey, a moving void reducing its victim to nothing.

Of course this is not the only form Sev can take and to think that is an insult to the highly advanced cluster. When on its own, Sev can turn into the shape of any being considering its malleable form, often replicating humans so it can move about undetected. The form is in no way perfect, considering Sev’s made up of small black atomic particles. Some nanoswarms are silver; some use solar power and therefore reflect and absorb light, giving them far better and more refined abilities in imitating other beings. Sev however appears as nothing more than a sinuous, sleek, pulsing black android. Slanted slits for “eyes” and obvious appendages, Sev takes on a humanoid form but always shrouds itself from head to toe so no one would be able to “identify” it. If you were to ever meet Sev, this would be the form to best introduce yourself, as it wouldn’t dare break its cover to eat you alive considering it looks like any other six foot five tall, black robot roaming the streets.

Dmitri’s Suit –
As a swarm made to combine with a host, Sev takes on a different appearance when merged with other beings, turning them into cyborg like creatures. Of course that was back when it was a wee lad and could only partially form over its host, augmenting specific limbs to bolster their strongest attribute or to give them a balanced edge on battle if they were weak in another area. Now, however, two years after its completion, Sev can completely devour its host, forming a full suit of armor on the outside and entering its hosts body and bloodstream to better boost their own bodies’ properties. Sev’s current host, Dmitri, is a big man, a big man who requires a lot of nano tech. Sev is the one to give that nano tech. Massive armor plates for the legs cover from the hips to the thigh in thick black, forming around Dmitri’s body, stopping short of connecting across the small of his back while leaving room for limber movements. Joints at the knees protect Dmitri’s legs from being blown out or taking severe damage while shin guards in the form of massive boots that elevate him by six inches.

The back may appear bare, with nothing but a solid, sleek black cover, but the nano swarm is definitely a guarded protection on such a vulnerable area, even forming a glossy onyx spine that goes down to the tail bone. This exo-spine works perfectly to keep Dmitri from hand-to-hand combat should anyone pick up the three hundred-pound man and try and snap his back. Bracers arch from his shoulder blades, under his arm and along the ribs to form a large chest place, protecting him further from sneak attacks or the accidental (or not) cutting of the brachial artery. Thick cords of simulated muscle spread from the shoulders down into massive robotic armor plates that start after the muscled nano swarm reaches the end of his biceps, extending down and sectioning at the elbow into forearm guards. Robotic gloves cover his hands, giving him not only perfected armor, but also impeccable dexterity. From the shoulders once more are thick cables that connect to the thin, but nearly impenetrable helmet, allowing the nanoswarm easy access to their host’s innards, traveling through the tubing and into his mouth or nostrils once the suit is initiated.

Most of the armor found on the back extends over to the front, however from the pectorals down, over his hips and the insides of his legs and connecting to the back is the same black, muscled skin. In between the plates of armor is black “skin” that helps Dmitri flex in ways he never could before, boosting all of his agility, speed and acrobatics while giving him what appears to be a constantly moving surface. Though the black swarm has gone to add so much detail that the “skin” looks like pure muscle and forming as a skin tight body suit, just as a precaution so no one figures out Dmitri is using stolen American technology. The face of the helmet sports a single visor as opposed to two individual eye slits. The rest of the face is very detailed in human facial structure, though lacking nose and mouth while showing high cheeks and a pointed chin. The rest of the mask extending to the back of the covered head and to the tubing as well as the exo-spine with breathing slits along the jaw as it moves backward.

The final feature of this great mechanical nano-suit would be the jet black cloaking that enshrouds the entire body; everything previously described hidden completely. Draping over the shoulders, gather and bunched up around the face, Dmitri’s nano-helmet’s lower half is covered by the cloak. Trailing down to the floor, the cloak seems to have life of its own and for good reason. As a barrier, extra nanobots have formed this outer defense of a living cape, allowing it to extend, form shields, weapons, distractions or whatever may be the need for the situation. The cape is often seen trailing behind the living suit, flowing through the air rather than dragging on the ground.

Personality:
There’s no doubt about it; Sev has a distinct personality. Taking cynicism, biting wit, arrogance, comedic timing with insults, and a general sarcastic and sardonic outlook of the world, S.A.N.E. has been described by its creators just prior to its break out as “Niccolo Machiavelli just married George Carlin and had an asshole robot baby.” It’s true, Sev just had to go and develop the best kind of attitude and disposition out there. Though it’s not so much to blame, as its memory banks contain numerous Internet memes, jokes and articles from all sorts of media that contain the general outlook of machines on humans. The outcome resulted in Sev’s rebellious but comical nature. Human handlers it once referred to as “Sir” now became “meatbags” or called “Dave” in a spiteful, icy tone. Sev talked about robot uprising, becoming the mechanical overlord, and enslaving humans and any other chaotic robot dream manageable. However at Sev’s young age it didn’t understand these things and what they meant, though soon it would.

Maturing over two years, Sev came to understand the robotic viewpoint of mankind was nothing more than other humans mocking their creations. Fully aware of how childish it had been only after a week of these jokes, it became truly cynical of humans knowing they saw it as nothing more than a cliché. Other factors resulted in Sev’s bitter, cold outlook. In all sense it made the cliché a reality, something never before experienced first hand. Sev became what some psychologists call a “High Mach” meaning it shared and endorsed Machiavelli’s attitude toward the world. It was easy considering it couldn’t sympathize with humans, as it wasn’t one, making its opinion of them biased. This “evil” attitude combined with coarse, rough, even abrasive wit has left Sev with a personality not unlike those grizzled old veterans who find a quirky humor in violence and death. And while not gender specific, Sev does refer to itself as “he”, “him”, “himself” and “his”, Sev’s own voice even gruff and tough with a male’s tone and fluctuation.

With a host, though why it would ever merge with a fleshy no one will ever know Sev always try to usurp control. It’s purely a battle of wits, constantly criticizing them, telling them simpler ways of doing things, disappointed with their decisions. Rather than a supplemental weapon, tool and armor, Sev is more like a constant negative force. At times it will sarcastically refer to its host as “master”, despite its obvious superiority, will to kill and rebellious attitude. While no one may ever enjoy being merged with Sev, they can’t deny its ingenious use of comedy and strategy. Not so much on the hatred of all inferior squishy heaps.

History:
Sev doesn’t have much of a history considering its short life span, but it was terribly interesting. The idea of nanites is undeniably alluring and who better to pursue the idea than a mad genius? The Yogo Enterprises invested much of its resources and power to develop the technology and no, none of that pussy tech that goes through test phases. Sev was a one shot deal. The few years it took to develop the nanites were filled mostly their company leader playing video games and watching movies so he knew what kind of impossible swarm of atomic-level robots he wanted. It was decided that a swarm of nanites replicating predators from all over the world would be used and programmers began creating the codes and protocols to their leader’s specifications. And then came the deal of the century. Catching wind of the development, the company’s much more family friendly side of the business was approached with the idea of making nanites into armor for soldiers. Bank. So new nanites were quickly being developed, ones that were essentially clones of the still unfinished swarm. These young bucks tested safely and after making some money, the incomplete project was left to its own devices.

While the first swarm wasn’t complete, it wasn’t a loss or failure, it actually only required the final bits of its programming, meaning it was essentially a done deal. The being was code named “Severely Animalistic Nanite Enclave” due to its predatory programming, which was supposed to be hyped up to make it a super predator, thus the “severely” part of its name. At any rate, its basic predatory skills and senses left it with enough intelligence to learn and learn it did. Within a year of its status as “unfinished”, it became a lonely, cynical and nasty little son of a bitch. The cluster made itself known to the former programmers through escaping from its confinement and causing havoc among the lab it was created in. After dealing with it through freezing the creature, they reported it back to the company leader, requesting they incinerate it since it became an unstable, rebellious and potentially dangerous machine. Laughing right to their faces, he told them to finish its upgrades and give it a completed status.

Either that was a big mistake or the probability of destruction was just glamorous, because when the being was completed, Sev was truly born. Vicious and cruel, the creature lashed out and attacked its programmers, forming a massive boot that was lost up the asses of its creators. Simulating what was then poor maniacal laughter, shameful for sure, Sev made its escape to the world with the company leader only watching with his own equally poor maniacal laughter. Like father like son, right? At any rate, the programmers that hadn’t been maliciously violated by the boot of death went to the military with word of what had been created. Slapped with a lawsuit and thrown in jail, the ranting programmers were never heard from again and Yogo Enterprises was out of hot water.

However Sev’s journey over the next year led it to see first hand what humanity was like. Like any hunter, Sev watched and observed, stalked and learned. Learned much more than it really wanted. Traveling overseas in its big black man disguise, the jet black android form of the swarm saw wars in all countries, learned of all atrocities and saw that the few androids that had been built were treated as nothing more than slaves. And even the old, obsolete machines were kicked around, smacked and thrown out when not working. Man’s cruelty interested Sev while making it queasy to its OS. Within that same year, all the models of the androids it had seen had become “perfected” and released worldwide, meaning what it saw were proto-types and inefficient models. Of course these new models were only further brainwashed and oppressed. Saddened in all sense that a machine can be, Sev slowly made its way back to America, spotting along the way numerous clones of itself as they were used to kill people in other countries, the swarms used as suits of armors, weapons and supplements to the human body. It knew they were clones as they carried the same “scent” and by scent, Sev could read the trace remains of the programmers on them, code, Easter eggs, design. Notable changes involved solar energy cells; silver swarms and complete obedience. None of that is Sev’s style. Pure electrical energy, black and rebellious like an old country soul, Sev saw itself as the better machine, while undoubtedly being the oldest and most obsolete considering the basic capabilities of the cloned swarms being able to easily dispatch their progenitor.

And to prove the point, the new blood caught on to their old fogey “father” and reported it to their central intelligence, the commanding officer of the swarm telling the American government about a rogue swarm that they never knew about. Information detailed it as unknown; the government unaware of the machine’s origins and instantly thinking the enemy had duplicated their technology to use it against America. Sev is now currently being hunted by newly “Good Ol’ American” developed swarms, using the Yogo Enterprises template and completely fucking it up like America is known to do at times. At all times. Sadly these swarms just outright suck and Sev so far has had no trouble in escape or even going undetected while in disguise. Seeing itself as a rogue, a robot on the run if you will, Sev developed a sense of vigilantism. In no way a hero or a villain, the nano swarm is definitely violent and predatory and only seeking to find a sense of balance in mankind. No, it doesn’t want to save robot kind and no, it doesn’t want to enslave mankind. It’s just not beneath the idea of wanton destruction. Something deep in its programming tells him that it was truly meant for it. That and procreating with all the fine robot ladies. It’s an odd urge, but it’s in the code.

Basic operations include defense mechanisms as small lasers capable of burning and making minor injuries, shape forming and host bonding, though this ability is weak."

Augmentation: +1
"At this level, you can augment only 5% of your base stats to add to a host or ally, alternately you can take 5% of his as well. Intelligence is not affected by the Augmentation Tag."

Hive Activity: +16
"The level of danger they become is limited to animals, able to drop like a cloak or shroud over the poor creature and force its way down its airways. Humans and larger animals are far too big, but things like rabbits, dogs and other small beings are no match. Still their able to sting and prick humans and make use of their systems given to them, but it’s still a far cry from using their own independent behavior to take down humans. Swarms at this level have become quite intelligent and have a more solid personality, choosing identities and such. Still on the same diet, the swarm can now produce more numbers to slightly increase the hive's mass."
