By becoming a member of PaleoBoard, you are signing a contract to follow the rules of a private messageboard. We own it so therefore we control it. If you don't like the rules and don't want to abide by them - then leave.

The rules are to be added upon at any time deamed necessary to amended them. The template of the rules is based upon the server owner's policies. If the rules are violated, the PaleoBoard will be taken down, so don't do it.

We are all adults here, so therefore, there is no reason for anything above PG-13 related comments and content. We are not children, and there may perhaps be children among us a times - so avoid saying/posting anything that could be objectionable to little sponges. Our moderating team has the abilities to censor anything they deam a violation in these regulations. Users have the ability to report users and posts to the moderators to any content they feel unappropriate (the moderators will then discuss how each case should be treated).

Cut the crap, here are the rules:

Prohibited Content:
You may not post, upload, link to, or email any Content that contains, promotes, gives instruction about, or provides prohibited Content. Prohibited Content includes any Content that breaks any local, state, county, national or international law. Prohibited Content also includes: (a) Content that infringes upon any rights [ex. MP3s and ROMs] (including, but not limited to, copyrights and trademarks); (b) Abusive, threatening, defamatory, racist, or obscene; c) Viruses or any other harmful computer software; (d) False Information or libel; (e) Spam, chain letters, or Pyramid schemes; (f) Gambling or Illicit drugs; (g) Terrorism; (h) Hacking or cheating for internet/online games; (i) Warez, Roms, CD-Keys, Cracks, Passwords, or Serial Numbers; (j) Pornography, nudity, or sexual material of any kind; (k) Excessive profanity; (l) Invasive of privacy or impersonation of any person/entity; and (m) Hacking materials or information.

Rights to Posted Content:
Any content uploaded or posted to InvisionFree may be published by InvisionFree (server owner). You grant InvisionFree the right to publish and store the Content.

Our rules:

MODERATORS' CODE OF CONDUCT

QUOTE
1. Moderators will generally not censor content, but we reserve the right to censor style. In other words, we care less about what you say than how you say it. You may criticize, complain, disagree, etc. - but keep it civil and respectful.

2. Moderators reserve the right to warn, temporarily restrict, or permanently ban members at their descretion for violating these rules.

3. Moderators reserve the right to close, move, hide, delete, and/or edit posts at their descretion for violating any of these rules.

4. Moderators will provide notifications and/or warnings to first-time offenders of these rules (we all make mistakes and need an opportunity to correct them). However, moderators reserve the right to take stronger action without warning for repeat offenders.

5. This board is a public service provided for the benefit of paleontologists everywhere. In this spirit, we will restrict any commercial announcements to the Classifieds area and not otherwise see the board used for blatant commercial posts.

MEMBERS' CODE OF CONDUCT

QUOTE
1. Do not post in multiple areas or post in the most trafficed areas just to get your post viewed more. Place each post once in the most appropriate area.

2. No group purchases shall be organized in public. Please use private email and PM if you want to arrange bulk/discount purchases of items.

3. If you are a product or service vendor, your expert advice about your product or service is most welcome here when it is solicited by other members. Otherwise, please restrict anything that resembles an advertisement or sales pitch to the Classified Ads section of this forum.

4. Each person is allowed one account. Do not attempt to register for multiple accounts for posting under multiple aliases. Multiple active accounts may result in one or all of them being removed. If you need help using your account, please contact a moderator. If you have multiple household members that each want their own account, this is allowed as long as you notify the moderators about each account after registering them.

5. No public fighting. If you have a complaint with another member or even a moderator, report it to the moderators or contact that member privately to voice your concerns. We want this board to be a friendly place where all feel welcome. Public bickering between members creates a negative atmosphere here and repeat offenses can result in your account being restricted or banned.

6. No personal attacks, threats, racial/ethnic slurs, or similarly hateful postings, emails, or PMs are allowed.

7. No vulgar or sexual pictures (including avatars) or language are allowed. This includes links to external material. We are adults here, so PG-13ish language is tolerated, but we must also be respectful of others. Intentionally misspelling words to subvert filters may result in immediate limitations to your access.

8. Be respectful of other's questions and comments! It is OK to disagree with someone, but do so politely. Avoid criticisms that belittle another member's questions or comments. Keep the PaleoBoard atmosphere friendly and encouraging of everyone's participation.

9. No spamming, chainletters, or referral requests. Don't ask us to click on links or otherwise be referred so that you can earn points towards an ipod (or anything else).

10. PaleoBoard allows you to attach a customised signature to each of your posts. Naturally, this signature must conform to all the rules above. Additionally though, it must contain no more than two images and three lines of text. The images must be no larger than 400x100 and have a combined weight of less than 60k. This is to stop the "ugly sig" syndrome that crawls into so many forums. Sigs that we consider to be ugly, stupid, or in poor taste will be edited. Restoring them to their pre-edit state will result in a ban.

11.  Keep all your hot-linked images below 500 pixels wide and 150KB in size. As much as you may think it's hilarious to post an image which causes everyone to spend fifteen minutes scrolling past it, we really do not care for it. Also, the forums are designed to be usable for people on a 56k modem, so posting a few megabytes of images in the middle of a thread is extremely poor form.  But, if you must for scientific purposes, the preferred method is posting a clickable link or indicating in the thread title "*image heavy*".

12. Speaking of images, image-leeching is not permitted. This means, if you're going to use img tag to link to an image, make sure that either you pay the site's bandwidth bills, you have permission from the person who does pay the bills, or you have clearance from the PaleoBoard administration.

EDIT: January 11, 2006 - Posting uploaded images that are larger than noted in member rule #11 is not acceptable, and should only be done if using the URL tag or a thumbnail. If you are unsure how to do this, contact a moderator before posting them.
