The jury is still out.....

Some people are rage quitting because it's not enough like version X of D&D for them.

Others thinks it's great?

Me - I've played every version and loved them all. I'll wait and see and just buy the core 3 books when they are released.....

It's probably going to be at least another year the speed they're going at the moment?

Wizards certainly seem to be proceeding with caution. I think there's a lot riding on the success of this version.

I hope they get it right. Even if "right" turns out to be at odds with my own tastes, a healthy flagship fantasy game is a good thing to have.

I agree, I think there is a lot riding on this edition as well. If it doesn't do well and make a lot of money, I wouldn't be surprised to see D&D disappear as a supported classic tabletop role playing game - Hasbro will still trade (sit on) on the IP for board games, miniature games and computer games but I'm worried that if the community doesn't get behind this game in numbers i.e. buys into it with cash, it won't be there in the future for the next generation of roleplayers.

Of course, we'll be o.k. because we'll just keep playing edition X of the game but it won't be good for the long term survival of the game as a mainstream tabletop rpg...

Recently, I've been seeing rumours (all unconfirmed) that Disney is thinking of taking over Hasbro, who own WotC, who own the licence for D&D and therefore, D&D Next.

Seems like they're not happy with just owning Star Wars!

Some people are worrying that they'll 'spoil' D&D while others are saying that they will be very 'hands off' and we've nothing to wory about.

Nowt we can do about it all anyway. Just thought I'd share to see if anyone else knows anything as I know some very esteemed grognards haunt this website from time to time who might have some insider information or opinions?

If it's not already spoiled, it never will be.
