Title: WE1 - Owlbear, near-finished green
Otherworld - August 19, 2009 10:01 PM (GMT)
Here it is, close to completion. He's 41mm to the top of the head, and will be in 5 parts (head, body/legs, 2 x arms, tail)

I hope you like it!

Awesome. Totally awesome.

Impressive. Finally, a Miniature Owlbear that I will not be embarassed to own or paint. Beautiful and drooltastic. My wallet is burning just a little more than before.

His stance is Godzilla-esque.
Mr Roper - August 20, 2009 02:14 PM (GMT)
It looks as if he is saying "Someone needs a hug"
And, Oh, yes...there will be hugs.

Very nice. Another one to add to the lead pile.

Superb! When is he due for release?

I like this design, which looks like a believable creature. It's not just part owl + part bear.
I like traditional mythological creatures like griffons too with their mix-and-match body parts, but owlbears don't work for me as well if the owl and bear parts are jarringly different.
A platypus looks strange but is just barely believable, but a complete duck head sewn onto a beaver body would seem even less real.

WOW! This one is definately "up there" in the top 10 of the best figs in OW's line.
I could see where the piece was going, in the early WIP pics (pre-feathered), but it has ended up exceeding expectations. This looks identical in every respect to the old MM illustration, yet a little more realistic than the original drawings. I must own one of these.
Can we see a scale comparison of this guy, next to an orc or some other human-sized fig? I'm curious how big he is.

Drooltastic in every sense of the word! My prior reservations regarding the long tailed owlbear depicted in the MM have evaporated. In retrospect, I’m very glad you went in the direction that you did; the result appears to be a perfect miniature. In the future, please feel free to ignore any unsolicited advice that I choose to offer.

Another figure that I will eventually order (along with the gelatinous cubes!) once my game fund gets healthy again!

I cannot praise Paul Muller enough. I will buy anything he sculpts for OW. I am starting to really get into John Pickford, too.

It think the finished sculpt does the MM proud. Nice work.
