Title: Goblin Wolfriders
Otherworld - September 26, 2011 03:16 PM (GMT)
Here are some pics of the Goblin Wolfriders which John has just finished. They're mounted on Jon Brumby's wolves & dire wolves, The photos are a bit ropey, they're difficult to photograph because of the combination of dark brownstuff and light-coloured metal, so I'll try to take some better ones when I have a bit more time.

Stunning work and certainly worth waiting for. Awesome, awesome riders. Love them. Well done John :D
So when can they become mine?
Welf VIII. - September 26, 2011 05:43 PM (GMT)
Think these are quite nice, although I would prefer a wee bit smaller weapons.
David Wasilewski - September 26, 2011 06:10 PM (GMT)
Excellent - these are really nice!
I particularly like the chieftain figure with the eye patch.
I also like the fact that that the wolves are the same as the separate wolves too.
The range has managed to look menacing rather than cute/silly.
I'll be buying some.
Dave

Found answer to my question at "Frothers"? - now what have they ever done to deserve such service, that we haven't done here :)

They'll be out in early November. |
So, by November my voucher will be gone then :D
Stephen Peto - September 26, 2011 07:40 PM (GMT)
Very nice indeed. Will these be sold with wolves, or separately?
Cheers Steve

That's what files are for :P
seriously, though, when you see them in reality, the weapons are not that big. Except the mighty hammer - and they are meant to be used at a slight distance, don't forget - the scimitars in particular were inspired by a visit to the royal armories...
kiltedyaksman - September 26, 2011 07:49 PM (GMT)
Ha! So you can do goblin missile troops. Now get to it John! *cracks whip* :)

I'm not sure what is up next - it might be a surprise... or more goblins... or a surprise... Richard has mentioned three or four different things. It's very exciting.
Stephen Peto - September 26, 2011 09:19 PM (GMT)
It's time to get out B10 Night's Dark Terror!
DukeoftheBloodKeep - September 26, 2011 11:19 PM (GMT)
The look great.... hopefully I'll find some time to paint them in 2012!!!

Great work John. I was not expecting one piece castings, but that works well. The axe wielders and the leaders are simply superb. Why no armour though, surely even goblins wear some armour when they go to war. Maybe it slows the wolves down to much though.
AndyM - September 27, 2011 11:12 AM (GMT)
Ooh, can we have these in October please. It looks like we need to pick a Pickford for the painting challenge.... :D
clam - September 27, 2011 02:10 PM (GMT)
lol - yes Richard, lets have some of them in October, so we can paint them for OWC, please. Perhaps there will be a few masters available? Maybe we could have buy a sample, please ... did I say please

Come on, you can tell us. Wont tell Richard that you did :) But no harms done making a few missile Goblin troopers. We all want those. After that Aspis, Cave Fisher and Xorn should be popular ;)
Ceowald - September 27, 2011 04:09 PM (GMT)
These are just plain cool. I love them! Will be getting some of these to paint for sure...

Well, I was not asked to do armour - and the goblins are measured to be the same proportions (slightly smaller in a couple of cases ) as the warriors. My brief was to make them similar to the cloaked ones, so that's what I did.
There have been comments on Frothers that they look a little big for the wolves, and while I can see that, hopefully that has been captured in the posing somewhat. I think it would have been a cheat to make smaller goblins or larger wolves, and Richard was aware of this when we initially discussed the figures:
"The wolves barely tolerate the goblins, and are not concerned that they have a comfortable ride! "
There is an assymetry to the goblin posing that reflects this, as well as the fact that most of them have to grasp on perhaps a little too tightly! Any armour might have pushed this relationship over the edge!
You may have noticed that one of them is a "wolf whisperer" - although the whispering might just be along the lines of "Give over, or this axe will find a new home"

Well, that would spoil the fun of endless pointless speculation, and who am I to do that? I think Richard has to balance getting the ranges complete, getting the models that would generate a good return in this rather opressive financial climate, and producing the stuff he knows he knows you want to see. Oh, and paying me. And Helping launch DF Europe.
There is no OW stuff on my bench at the moment, except for that most sensitive of subjects, but personally I am hoping he will ask me to do the last thing he suggested first, which is not the thing that has been discussed on the forum most recently, but one that has been discuseed, and would probably end up potentially being reasonably expensive to produce, dependant on size.
I've said too much. I'll get my coat.
kiltedyaksman - September 27, 2011 09:57 PM (GMT)
I'd vote for the cave fisher :)
Perhaps that could be one of the options for the special miniature via the voucher.
tecatefil - September 27, 2011 11:22 PM (GMT)
I think they look fantastic! Really Beautiful representations. The ratio of the goblin to the wolf is spot on in my opinion. I can’t put my finger on it but they look “Right”, well as right as a goblin riding a wolf can be. :o
shadbelly - September 27, 2011 11:28 PM (GMT)
I absolutely must have these! Wonderful, wonderful sculpts!
John - September 28, 2011 08:33 AM (GMT)
Thank you for all your kind comments - I hope you will all enjoy the models when they appear (quite soon if I understand Richard properly!)
David Wasilewski - September 28, 2011 08:41 AM (GMT)
My speculation is...... Hill Giant Family

These are really nice. They don't look "too big" at all - they look exactly like goblins riding wolves. The faces are really characterful, and the poses match up very nicely.

Hmm something quite Kaleb Daark about this guy!
ignervius scumme - September 28, 2011 06:59 PM (GMT)
The one with the spear and the face mask is just stunning.
Erny - October 3, 2011 02:13 PM (GMT)
Really unsure about these, unsure in a good way though. I'd promised not to get any OW goblins with a vast number of citadel, citadel AD&D, marauder and Ral Patha Bob Olley goblins. After having seen the OW goblins I really wanted them but stuck to my guns, except there are some good deals ion the sale ending tomorrow. And now these, I'm holding on, just but I think I may crack if I see these painted. And then I'd have to get the rider-less wolves too, curse you...
One minor quibble easily sorted but with possible future problems, I hate the stylised short bows, a regular self bow would have been so much more awesome. Picky, I know.
