Title: What do you most want from MMII

kodiakbear - February 1, 2010 08:41 AM (GMT)
Ok here is a question.

What miniature do you most want from the Monster Manual II creatures to be made by OW?

kodiakbear - February 1, 2010 08:55 AM (GMT)
Mine is just something from mythology to use in my Greek mythos games.

Cyclopskin

I own some of the Ral Partha ones (2nd) and like them but I would like to have a whole tribe of them.

Cthulhu - February 1, 2010 12:05 PM (GMT)
Probably an Aboleth or a Drider.

Warduke - February 1, 2010 12:28 PM (GMT)
Oh hell, now i gotta break out my book..but i'd have to go with a behir or a three pack of bearded devils!Maybe even a pedipalp since one day soon i plan to run the giant's series from start to finish.

DukeoftheBloodKeep - February 1, 2010 01:11 PM (GMT)
Warduke... you could check out this list... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Advan...l_II_.281983.29

Cthulhu, I second the call for a Drider. I'd also like to see a small Derro and/or Duergar tribe, a Myconid Tribe and the Gloomwing.

Drew? - February 1, 2010 08:05 PM (GMT)
I've just gone through MM2 to formulate a list of "wants" (I can dream can't I?) that I would like to see OW produce - in alphabetical order.

Aboleth
Annis
Ant Lion (how sexy would that be)
Azer
Behir (this would be top of my list actually)
Piscodaemon
Cambions (I love Cambions)
Astral Deva
Bearded Devil
Drider
Froghemoth (yes, I like the Froghemoth and would LOVE to be able to use one)
Magman
Marid
Mongrelman
Myconid
Zombie Monsters

Finch - February 1, 2010 09:01 PM (GMT)
Wolf-in-sheep’s-clothing anyone? …anyone?

How about 1) Cloaker; 2) Behir; 3) Bearded Devil instead?

Cthulhu - February 1, 2010 11:27 PM (GMT)
As everyone puts up their list I am thinking...ALL of them.

If OW actually did a wolf in sheeps clothing maybe, just maybe we would all love it

Azer
Cloaker
Devils
Drider
Myconid
Mongrel man

Im sure a few more are in there

Of course any banned ones would be nice but aint gonna happen- ummm cant recall if any banned ones in MM2 actually. Cant be arsed to go fetch the dam book off the shelf

Lars Porsenna - February 3, 2010 05:28 AM (GMT)
I'd like OW to concentrate on critters not seen yet. Reaper puts out a really good not-cloaker (I have two).

Aboleth
Azer
Any Daemons
Any Demons
Any Devils
Any Demodands
Derro! (even though Reaper has some decent not-derro, you can never have enough)
Gibbering Mouther (reaper has a good one, but I think it can be better)
Myconids (see above)
Thri-Kreen
Vegepigmeys!
Vilstrak (one ripping a book in two would be fantastic... :P )

And finally...MODRONS! Yes, I'm serious...

Damon.

kodiakbear - February 3, 2010 07:42 AM (GMT)
Drider seams to be getting alot of nods, so I will ask are there any drider minis out there that are close to what you would want from OW or are you all wanting one from OW because the others are so bad.

I can't be, not looking at them LoL!

This was Funny IMHO.

Modron April Fool

David Wasilewski - February 3, 2010 12:15 PM (GMT)
A pack of cloakers (say, 3 variants) would be excellent!!!!
Duergar fighters, clerics and command.

It would add to the planned Drow for an underdark range?

Dave

Chasme
Dretch
Rutterkin
Derro
Drider
Duergar
Korred
Mud-man
Myconid

Otherworld - February 3, 2010 01:16 PM (GMT)

kodiakbear - February 3, 2010 03:50 PM (GMT)

Heresy do a great Cyclops mini, around 40mm tall - its got Goat Legs (which suits me as I am a Harryhausen nut) and they are perfect for Cyclopskin IMHO!

Vilstrak (one ripping a book in two would be fantastic... :P )

A vilstrak might be cool but alas he failed to make Richard’s list. An OW vilstrak could only improve on this old TSR mini. Either the paint’s yellowed with age or my interpretation of “ivory” was a little off back in the day. (Is it just me or does he have a mouth full of twinkies?)

I have him (as a Greater Cyclops), 4 Ral Partha (now produced by Iron Wind) Cyclops as 'regular' Cyclops.

And 8 of the Heresy cyclops (with the Horned head) as Cyclops-Kin.

kodiakbear - February 4, 2010 04:00 PM (GMT)
I love Harry's movies but I am in the cyclops and minotaurs have feet camp.

Classic Greek Minotaurs & Cyclops have feet, Harryhausen Cyclops have hooves ;)

That looks like a great list to me, Richard!

WRT the various monsters from S3: I could see you doing those as a limited-edition boxed set, perhaps, say for the 30th anniversary of the module (which, hey, happens to be 2010! :D ). A number of monsters in MM2 were lifted wholesale from S3 and, out of that original context, are generally ridiculed as lame monsters. If you put them all together, wrap them up with a retro-Erol Otus cover of some sort, I think you'd have a winner on your hands (in particular given the old-school focus on science-fantasy and mixing SF-Fantasy in general over the past year or so).

Of course, if the set would have to cost $200 for you not to go broke making it and to take into account lower sales (sadly, S3 often tops folks as among their least favorite modules too, along with EX1-2), then perhaps it's not really a good idea after all....

Great list, pretty much all my favorites are listed.

Sadly, no love for the giant catfish, oh well, can't win um all. :(

I'm really looking forward to seeing the Aspis drones and the Derro, two cool underdark races.

Oh yeah...., anyone know where I can find a non-plastic giant catfish miniature? :D

Jake B - February 6, 2010 05:17 PM (GMT)
Every animal including catfish is available as pewter keychains or charms, but many of those are flats. Plastic may be a better bet for fully 3D versions of fish.

Jake B - February 6, 2010 05:56 PM (GMT)
I really love the gibbering mouther. It's probably my favorite new thing in MMII.

Aspis could be cool for the Slavers series.

Cave Fisher - Have to like big bugs that remind the party just how low on the food chain they are.

Cloaker - Not the worst idea for a monster, but now a running joke among miniatures companies competing for the worst version.

Chasme - Is this a stand-up fight or another bug hunt? This could be the lord of vermin at the bottom of a bug-filled dungeon.

Korred - I've always liked fairy tale type beings for D&D.

Myconid - I don't know why I like these. I shouldn't, but I do.

Jake B - February 6, 2010 06:27 PM (GMT)
Swanmay is in MMII, and is a playable class in some editions. Could be a nice addition to the WE line with the dryad etc.

Clokers like Mimics are creatures I always plan to put in my games but never have. I always figured that in my game they would have been created by some deity would was insane.

My number one pick would be the Froghemoth. Not the one pictured in D&D MMII manual as that one looks like crap but the one from the AD&D Monstrous Compendium Annual II.

As well as the Mud-Men and Modrons listed above by others.

red dreads - April 22, 2011 02:31 PM (GMT)
Vargouille would rock my world, could you imagine a dozen of these beauties heading towards the party?

Spriggans,Quicklings,Korreds,(any of the bad Fey folk)

Aboleth

,Behir

,Boggle(cos theyre real fun)

Crimson Death

Drider(just gotta be cos its Iconic to the max)

Mongrelman

Myconid,(though Reaper do some)

perhaps some of the creatures not illustrated in the MMii so you can have free range?

Darksteed - May 5, 2011 11:05 PM (GMT)
Warduke, what company is that Cyclops picture you first posted from? Can't seem to find it.

shadbelly - May 5, 2011 11:22 PM (GMT)
Furata makes a really cool Harryhausen cyclops:

Michka - May 6, 2011 04:22 PM (GMT)
I'd have to go with Aspis, Cave Fisher, Doppelganger, Intellect Devourer... wait, those last two weren't from the MMII. OK, Any monster from the Grenadier Dwellers Below box that isn't out yet or verboten.

Oh, And a Carnivorous Flying Squirrel.
