Okay so i went 2 day to get my smog done so i can register my car.
I went in sure that it was going to pass but sure enough it didn't.
I have a completely stock 90 240sx hatch.
My car runs fine, no problems, idle's fine
Here is the paper that they gave me.

the guys wants to charge me $295 + smog. I figures it was to do it under the table but i really want to avoid that.

The guy told me that i have high NOx.
So i did sum research and people said way to fix the problem was to...
- clean egr valve
- change your catalytic converter (can't do that b/c mines all welded)
- change your oil (which mine is due so I'm going to do it)
- have you car heated (which mine was since Ive been driving all day)
- use a bottle of guaranteed to pass in the gas tank using 91 octane
- over inflate tire's ? (???? iono either, but mine were low)
- use seafoam

All of these are suggestion that i wrote down looking around on other forums. But half of them seem eh unrelated to the problem in a way.

My car is stock, 5speed with auto ecu, exhaust leaks, new spark plugs and wires.

Is there anything else you guys know that i can do.
I have before the end of this month!
Help me.

that "guranteed to pass" can/bottle or what ever does not work. they tail pipe tested it, and complete junk. it actually worstens your emission out put.

how ever, seafoam does work.

Marlon Bro. I can get you to "pass" for $200!

How old is the cat? what kind is it?

Your cat can be changed, they cut the old one out and weld in a new one. that will run you like $240 +/-

If your cat is old it's probly no good or it was cheap junk that only last for a year. New law states that every cat sold needs to have a 5 year warranty. Our cars also use a differint cat I forget the true name of it right now but its a "3 stage" cat. If anyother cat is used it wont pass.

Its hard for a 240 not 2 pass smog. My car passed, the lagit way, running on 3 cyl. with exhaust leak? haha

Sea foam that mug too then take out the EGR clean it out. EGR! do it man do it. it'll help with smog and with MPG's in the long run.

In the past I've run rubbing alcoho in the gas tank to raise the octain. as well as alittle auto tranny. fluid.l

the only thing you failed for is nox, thats easy.
still have an egr? clean it, make sure all the vac lines from the BPT valve and egr are good. theres a line that runs between them that loves to burn a hole thru it. clean out the egr with a wire brush and carb cleaner.
Make sure your coolant system is up to par. make sure your fan/fans are workin properly
id Seafoam it last thing. Main thing with nox is high temps, second is carbon deposits but your not even failing that bad.

Would highly recomend
1 sea foam
2 change cat but it's mostly do with hc
3 change o2
4 change oil
5 check timing make sure it's a 20 degree,

Do not use emmission pass stuff
those are all octane booster, that will clean your injectors and rum better but not going to pass

run some denatured alcohol in your gas tank, that'll lower you numbers significantly...trust me worked on my old rx7 and my fully built ka-t. ninja.gif

^^^ alcohol will raise your nox, wich is what he failed for. usually only works for a lil HC and CO. and on OBD@ will usually set a light and crack out your fuel trim

^^Are you joking around?

Anyways i thought putting alcohol in the gas tank would raise your octane so in result you'll get lower reading's.
