I'm with you Will, this book is terrific. It doesn't seem to get any real press though, which I find surprising. The art is just fantastic, and the different ways that the Greek gods are portrayed is always very interesting. The plots are very fun, and often read like a daytime soap opera. My only REAL complaint with the book is the fact that it seems the Wonder Woman is only a supporting character in the book. With the exception of the Hades marriage plotline, she never seems to really jump to the forefront of the stories...rather she remains just a 'player' in the greater drama of the gods. Now, I love a Greek god story...I have since I was a kid...but for those that are real WONDER WOMAN fans, I can imagine that this might be a little annoying. All in all though, this book is a whole lot of "awesome" in my opinion.

Finally got to this book!
I do agree that this book is structured more like a Greek tragedy, and as such WW is more of a player in a play than the central star. But that does look to change next issue. I thought he early action in 11 was great, including what happened to Lennox! The developments were excellent, and seeing Artemis (the god, not the Amazon) was fantastic. The Sun/Moon combo was very powerful. Hera is clearly desperate to work with the two of them, no? I wouldn't be surprised if Zola gave birth next issue. |

I agree. I think the early formula pretty much had to focus a lot on characters other than Diana, because her world is a large and complicated one. Re-establishing Paradise Island and the Greek gods is a tall order, but one that needed to happen early on to properly establish Diana.
And even so, I think the role she's played thus far has been a great one. She's as compelling a character now than ever before, only with a more youthful and edgier appeal than in the past. WW has been one of my favorites of the New 52 so far. Great book. |
