I saw Prometheus last night. I'm a big Ridley Scott fan. His Gladiator is my fave movie of all time and his Alien is up there as well.

I admit to a few things with this film:

1) I really liked it.

2) I didn't truly understand it all.

3) It looked AMAZING.

Anyone else see it, like it and not fully understand it?

mellow.gif Well, I went to see it yesterday. I was highly anticipating a great movie, similar in tone and feel to the Alien movie and was enthralled by the beginning and the idea that was set up... Then the story kept going and it lost me.

I won't spoil it. All I can say is that the director did a grand job with the scenes, the mood, everything fell in place. The CGI was amazing. The writers did a great set up and then... they had no idea how to make it into a cohesive second half of the movie.

My girl was ready to leave to leave the theater when a character's death showed no progression whatsoever to the story arc that could be played with him. I felt the same way. 3 stars out of 5.

SPOILERS AHEAD

I admit, it left me with a lot of unanswered questions, but it still succeeded in some levels, as a space/horror film, for me. There were literal moments of fear as I watched, and the scene where that pod healing pod removes the alien from her stomach had me squirming.

I am left with important questions though. What was the black goo? Where did all the alien pods come from that we see in the first Alien film? They didn't seem to be there in this movie and that's clearly the spaceship Ripley finds. Why did David give that dude the tainted drink? Did he know what would happen? Was it under the old man's orders?

Was the last scene the birth of the Xenomorphs? Did they not exist in that form until then? Were their ancestors that crazy octopus thing? If so, what happened to them? Why didn't the crew of The Nostromo find them?

Can anyone answer that?

There were a lot of good scenes. Like I said, Mr. Scott still has it as a Director.

I understand it is a sort of commentary on WMD. The engineers ship was supposed to be filled with the black goo that desintegrated them. BUT it was also shown to be the thing where the little worms that grew into the big worms were kept.

David seemed to be following orders. As to why he did it to the scientist, it is actually a dumb thing to do. He had a whole sample of the thing that could be taken to earth for studying. He didn't need to do it to him. Also, with the way that scientist died, there was no resolution to his story. Just got truncated. As for the impregnation. Shocking scene in the surgery machine. Still, that woman was super in order to do what she did after the surgery.

There were many holes in the story. The ship seemed to be the one found by the Nostromo but at the same time it could be a different ship carrying the same cargo. I gotta check my Alien and Aliens DVD's.

Well it seemed that the rest of the ships were under the ground so I assumed this ship that crashed was the one Ripley and company would find.

Hmmm. Actually, was the ship they found didn't it have the alien still in the pilot seat? I can't recall.
