Title: Creative Teams after AVX

shogunwoot - May 13, 2012 10:47 PM (GMT)
There's rumored to me a lot of shake up coming to the creative teams after Avengers Vs. X-Men. As someone who isn't too much into Marvel right now, but would like to be (That 3.99 price tag for most of their books really is ridiculous) this is exciting to me because I could jump on a few books and see if I like them. I'd like to open up the discussion to what's coming next at Marvel. Now you can say realistically what you think is coming or use this thread purely for fun, "Wouldn't it be cool if So-So wrote Such?" Or both like I probably end up will doing. Whatever you're in the mood for!

Realistically?

X-Men - Brian Bendis: The X-Men are really the only thing the man hasn't touched too much at Marvel. Moving him from Avengers to X-Men makes sense to me as well. I might be willing to check this out in the beginning, depending on the team

Avengers - Jonathan Hickman: The man came to Marvel to write The Ultimates. He gets his book and then drops it for something "he couldn't refuse". What would be so tempting he'd have to leave his dream book for it? How about creative control over the biggest franchise Marvel has? If this is true I will most definitely check this out. I know Hickman could write the crap out of the Avengers

Iron Man - Jonathan Hickman: Since we're talking about Hickman, I think this one is coming as well or maybe it's just wishful thinking Fraction is wrapping up his current arc and since Iron Man is one of my favorite characters I'm getting excited. I put this under realistic because Hickman has also dropped both Fantastic Four and FF so what's going to relpace those books? Maybe Avengers books? Hopefully Iron Man! He would be a perfect fit for this book. He would be right at home in Iron Man's futuristic, science heavy world. This one makes too much sense to me.

Fantastic Four - Mark Waid: Waid has stated he's interested in doing more work for hire with Marvel and Fantastic Four has an opening. Waid's Fantastic Four was pretty well recieved by the comics community and I don't think anyone would complain about this shake up.

Other possibilities: Mark Waid on an Avengers book or X-Men book.

In which case I could see Remender given the reigns on the Fantastic Four franchise.

Some teams for fun?

Ghost Rider - Bendis/Maleev. Everytime I think about this book my head feels like it's going to explode.

Silver Surfer - Hickman/Whoever: This one makes my head almost explode too. This could also be used as a launching point for Hickman to take over the cosmic corner of Marvel

Iron Fist - Waid/Lark: Holy crap this book would be filled with crazy kung fu fun. Waid would probably be able to capture Danny's funny side as well.

Iron Man - Remender/Whoever: If Hickman isn't writing the book post AVX Remender would another good fit for the book. Remender is my favorite writer at Marvel right now so I'm putting this team under fun because I feel this is more wishful thinking than realistic thinking.

Captain America - Remender/Aja: Brubaker's Cap run has been my one of my all time favorites, but after he brought Rogers back and put him in the suit the book hasn't been the same. It's about time he let's go of this book and let's someone else breathe some new air into it.

I have some more but I'll leave it at that so people actually read this post.

Just so long as Chris Gage stays on Avengers Academy. I don't mind if he takes on other books, but hope he stays where he is.

I'd like to see Brubaker back on Iron Fist. He didn't stay long on that title. Christos Gage would be great on Iron Fist, given his excellent run on Union Jack, which basically encompassed a "24" like atmosphere. Bring that to Iron Man.

AVX is fun but kind of a redo of Civil War, still, it's more fun for me than anything DC is doing.

I'm really not familar with this Gage, but I hear great things about him all the time. What should I check out of his?

I'd love to have Brubaker back on Iron Fist, John. That book was so much fun and epic at the same time. I miss it getting it on a monthly basis.

For his current stuff: Avengers Academy, X-Men Legacy and Angel and Faith. (I was never into BTVS, I'm just buying it for his name on the cover and I'm enjoying it.)

Past stuff includes G.I. Joe Cobra (I&II--they're miniseries) and Absolution.

Thanks, dragonbat! I'll check out what you recommended!

Check out his Union Jack mini...

It's like the Fox TV series "24" in comic book hero form.

24 is probably my favorite TV series, so I will most likely check this one out first.

I'm enjoying A v X. I know it's an event etc etc, and the argument is a bit silly. I see two sides - the side that wants to kill hope (Wolverine), and the side that wants to save her (everyone else). HOW they want to save her is a different story though, and I'm liking it.

Although, it's almost like everyone is clueless. Scott knows what the Phoenix has done before and so do the Avengers. So they know the death/rebirth issues. I'm amazed they're being so pig-headed. And as much as I love Scott leading the X crew, sometimes he's a bit...narrow minded.

His note to the press was pretty impressive though

Sorry, this thread isn't about A v X!!!!

In terms of new creative teams. I too have heard this rumour.

I read, of the X books - Uncanny and Wolvie's school, plus X-Force. All of which I'm enjoying. I hope they stay as they are.

In terms of Waid and Brubaker - I'll pick up anything they write, so if they move to whatever projects, I'll read them.

I don't read Avengers, mostly because I don't really have an interest in the few million teams. If however, they give me a good jumping on point, I'm game.

Remender should be allowed to write Uncanny X-Force indefinitely and it better be kept that way seriously. Best X-Men book I've read in YEARS.

I agree with you on Brubaker and Waid, especially Bru. I really do think his Cap is stale and I had to drop it due to price constraints. Winter Soldier is one of Marvel's best books right now and is giving me what I'm missing from his Cap run.

I'm not a huge Avengers reader either, but if they give the franchise to Hickman I'll definitely check it out.

I don't know about who I'd want to take over the different books after AvX and for the most part I don't even care. Just so long as they don't take Peter David off of X-Factor I'll be happy. This is by far and away my favourite X-title, it's just so consistantly awesome. Jamie Madrox is now one of my favourite characters purely because of this series and Peter David's writing. And apart from Nightwing and Amazing Spider-Man, this is probably the book I look forward to reading most each month.

shogunwoot - May 17, 2012 07:37 PM (GMT)
I doubt Peter David is going anywhere. It's mostly their 'flagship' books getting shake ups. It looks like Brubaker is leaving Captain America as well since Cullen Bunn jumps on as a cowriter for the series in August (last time he became a cowriter it was Venom and now it's his book). I see major shake ups coming involving the Marvel architects.

Yeh, I kinda figured that. I just wanted to give a shout-out to X-Factor really. It's awesome. :D

shogunwoot - May 18, 2012 05:05 PM (GMT)
Haha no doubt love the shout out :D Are you reading Uncanny X-Force as well?

Ben Reilly - May 20, 2012 01:48 PM (GMT)
Yeh, I am and I thought it was great all the way through to the end of the Dark Angel Saga but simce that story finished, I feel like there's been a dip in quality, although it might be starting to pick back up now.

shogunwoot - May 21, 2012 05:57 PM (GMT)
I agree with you. The art especially took a dip in quality, but I'm excited for this next arc. Seems like everything is going to hit the fan in this storyline.
