At AP we always strive to have really unique video rooms. The general theory being that we don't show you stuff you've seen, or even that you want to see, but what you SHOULD be watching. Typically we query the staff for the shows that are most significant to them, whether for the shows artistic merits, for sheer fun-factor, or even if there is a personal importance to it.

We have a lot of older school titles covered, and a lot of the latest artistic shorts as well. However, the latest releases are always beyond us for one reason or another. So what recent titles should we be looking at to show?

For artistic merit, "Kids on the Slope" and "Space Brothers" are must see. Both are exceptionally written, have well developed characters, and emotional depth. I'm no fan of jazz music, but the music for "Kids on the Slope" is pretty impressive as well.

For fun-factor, "Another," "Polar Bear Cafe," "Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse," "Mitsudomoe," and "Nichijou/My Ordinary Life."
"Another" is a great horror series that plays like a "Final Destination" t.v. series
"Polar Bear Cafe" is an extremely offbeat but hilarious comedy series.
"Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse" is an alternate history mech show with a great two-part opening episode.
"Mitsudomoe" is one of the funniest comedy series I've ever seen, raunchy but with a heart.
"Nichijou/My Ordinary Life" is another offbeat but hilarious show.

Personal importance, "Medaka Box." It's GAINAX's most recent series, and after starting fairly pedestrian, has one of the ballsiest change of pace and finale I've seen in a while.

There is a relatively new Matusmoto anime called Ozma, isn't there? I only saw one episode, and it didn't make much of an impression on me, but Matsumoto is so classic, it might be worth showing.
Also now I'm thinking of some sort of "Badass Matsumoto Girls" video room showing, because the pirate chick in the first episode of Ozma was pretty cool.

Badass Matsumoto girls sounds like an awesome showing.

I should watch more Medaka's box!

Ozma was pretty good, though it felt like it was lacking something for a Matsumoto series.

Medaka Box really hits its stride around episode 7 and just gets better from there.

We should get back into the habit of watching anime before meetings, rather than King of the Hill...

Polar Bear Cafe is wonderful. Especially if you're a fan of Japanese puns.

I'm looking forward to Aoi Sekai no Chuushin de just for the concept. I think even if it turns out to be subpar it'll be worth showing for the novelty.

Segua Kingdom has been losing the war against Ninterdo Empire but the tables are turned by the appearance of a boy called Gear. All the characters are parodies of Nintendo or Sega games such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda etc.

That sounds potentially amusing. I'd like to see at least the first four episodes for it from that description.

What about that Sword Art Online show? It's apparently about people being stuck inside an MMO.
I haven't seen it, because it doesn't seem like my thing, but most people I hear who have watched it seem to really like it.
