Shueisha's Monthly Shonen Jump manga anthology will suspend its publication in Japan indefinetly from the July edition which goes on sale in Japan on June 6th. Declining sales are cited, current sales are down about 30 percent from the alltime peak. Comic Magazine started as a sister publication to Weekly Shone Jump in December, 1969. Last year's average circulation is about 420,000 versus an alltime high 1.4 million circulation in 1989.

That stinks that it is shutting down publication. But there are others to read. Hopefully something good will come from it.

It is sad to see a manga publication go the way of the dinosaur, especially one under the Jump umbrella. However weekly is still with us, so not all is lost. It just goes to show that either manga artists/writers need to try harder or the world economy is in a ton of trouble.

If it's still a valid topic it's still a valid topic.

What's interesting is that manga is one of the cheaper medias, so in a bum economy you would expect it to preside, or at least that used to be the case. Now renting (or dl'ing) movies is still cheaper than buying a manga anthology, and people have internet under an installation cost, rather than a superfluous expense, so it's always there.

I guess the times are just a-changin'

I'm confused. Isn't Shonen Jump Advance just an imprint of manga release by Viz in the US?
