I was planning on bringing an airsoft gun or two (without ammo!) as a prop for my cosplay. I know most conventions, such as Ohayocon, have rules about weapons as props but I was unable to find any for the Anime Punch conventions either on the forums or as part of the cosplay guidelines. Are airsofts acceptable as props, or are they still considered too dangerous?
I apologize if this issue has already been addressed, I've looked around but haven't found anything. |

Weapons:
No exposed live steel. If it's in a sheath, it's ok, but don't go taking it out and swinging it around. The Anime Punch sharpness test is to put it down your pants and jump twice. The only thing your weapon can project is an aura of cool. No gun capable of firing B.B.'s, airsoft pellets, crossbow bolts, lasers, or anything else is permitted, regardless of whether or not they have ammo. Broken toy guns, or toys that are modified to not fire are fin.. Real guns are strictly forbidden under every circumstance, even if you do have a conceal and carry permit. Hope this helps. |

Can you clarify that a little? I have a friend whose cosplay requires a katana to be complete. She's not planning to take it out of the sheath, but it is sharpened. |

Thats fine, more or less a lot of our cosplay rules are common sense. If you bring a sharpened katana and start swinging it around, there will be a problem. If you bring a sharpened katana and use it to pose for really badass pictures, thats fucking awesome.
The general theory here being that anything can be used as a weapon if you want it to be, so why should we have a really restrictive weapon's policy? If you have any other questions though at con, feel free to bring whatever it is in question to con ops at your earliest possible convenience and we'll take a look and okay you. |

I am planning an Aldelbert Steiner costume made out of aluminum armor. My weapon is going to made of latex foam (LARP weapon.) Earlier someone said no exposed steel, but I think that's referring only to weapons and anything that could be considered a weapon. Would my armor suit be considered too dangerous?

Is there a chance you're going to hurt someone accidentally while walking down a crowded hallway?

I am now massively excited for your Steiner cosplay. I should dig out my Lani cosplay... Though that'd suit Revoluticon more than Armageddicon!

So, just to clarify: If I have an spring airsoft pistol, but I removed the spring inside it in a way that disables it from firing until I replace the spring (which won't happen until the con is over), is it allowed? I suppose that in the case for battery operated guns, removing the battery doesn't qualify does it? |

Yeah, that is correct. Basically, if you give it to me, and after three minutes of fiddling I can't shoot another staffer who isn't paying attention in the back of the head, then it's good to go.
