Naruto Jiyuu > Life Outside the Internet > How do people view you outside of the Internet?

I've always thought of myself as sort of nerdy, but that's only because I hadn't really been around any real nerds. In addition to that, I knew more about me than anyone that would be judging that would know

Like, going to a school where the most kids I ever had in my class was like 12 at a time for the first 9 years of my life and then now being at one where there are like 48 or so, I notice that if I don't say anything, people would think I was the anti-nerd. The way I dress, the music I listen to, the sports they assume I play, the sports I would play if my f***ing leg healed, etc. Only time people can tell is when I tell them how much I'm on the computer.

I'm not a closet nerd. I'll tell people what I do and I'm not really ashamed. But maybe that's because I've sen real nerds who don't do anything with anyone but their computer or videogames, wear the same clothes every day for a year, snitch, and generally act like lames. I guess I don't really have a social class but I'd probably be right in the middle of the Prep <--> Nerd continuum, meaning I could go either way pretty seamlessly. (This is in other people's opinions, mind you)

What about you guys? Being an anime forum, people kind get a bad stereotype from coming to places like this. I've admittedly watched less and less and read less and less over the last few years, but I still enjoy it when I get a chance.

Simple: outcast. I'm not going to go into a whole monologue about it, especially since that was in a small high school. That view's changed, but I've kinda got better things to think about, such as passing a class or trying to do something productive on the weekend. Sure, it would be important to know whether or not people hate or fear you, but wondering how people "view" you semms like a waste of time in my book.

Posted by: Ds14 Sep 1 2007, 08:14 PM
You'd think so, but when you're trying to get a job, get tickets for a concert, make friends, etc, having friends helps a lot. I think there are certain people that may rub you the wrong way or w/e, and they should be avoided. But I also think that there are going to be people in between that you're not super best friends with and that you don't absolutely hate. I think those are good people to have a scratch my back I scratch yours relationship with.

Rank 49 of 167 in my class. >.>

I can't even live up to that rank.

Anyway...

You probably wouldn't want to know me in real life. I either look like I am on something, or am almost always extremely hyper. Like I have some kind of spontaneous energy coming to me all day long.

The kind of person the preppy girls next door feel sorry for, the guy able to make an entire class laugh and enjoy an Earth/Space Science Presentation ( that day was epic, I might add. lol ), the kind of person my friends would say was cool if you could get me to calm down, someone who can and will try to get along with everyone...though not necessarily wanting to. There are some people I want to throw through a wall.

Sarcasm at the level of saying:

If a girl complains about being fat, grab them by the ankles, spin around for momentum and throw them into a wall. If they collapse into a few pieces, they are not fat, but if they break a hole in the wall, they are. Make it a very soft wall for some lulz.

That doesn't even begin to sum me up.

XD, Nice.

I'd put a "me" quote up, but it's probably against TOS.

I'm the odd one, and proud of it. I've taken to saying "Good morning" as a greeting at all hours of the day and night. You've been warned.

To all my friends and stuff I'm the funny and well liked kid. But to people I don't know I'm mad quiet. Like generally when I've had to move to new schools or get to know new groups of people and stuff like that I don't say much, but after a while the funny dude comes out to play and I'm like the life of the party. Except I don't drink XD.

What're your views on drinking and stuff like that anyway? I absolutely don't drink or smoke or anything like that, even though a lot of my friends do. What about the rest of y'all?

Posted by: Kanki-chan Sep 4 2007, 10:51 PM
I'm a big non-smoker/non-drinker. It was a bit of a change to move from a place that had a strict zero-tolerance policy to a HS that apparentely has a "first offense" policy-hence the big All-school play fiasco. Long story short, I was wrongly accused as a "snitch" to those that decided to bring beer backstage (I actually didn't know about it until afterwards), further showing mutual dislike for each other, and I was so glad to get that diploma outta there.

Anyway, I don't drink/smoke, and if ur above legal age, it's ur choice imo.

Posted by: Ds14 Sep 4 2007, 11:10 PM
I don't drink or smoke, but probably not for the same reasons as you guys.

I don't drink because I don't ever get an opportunity not to get caught drinking. If I'm not going to hurt anybody or myself, I'll do it.

I smoke hookah, but not cigarettes. Cigarettes are nasty as hell and they kill you. I've had a puff of one and it didn't feel good. Hookah kills you too, but I don't do it often enough to make a difference.

I've never smoked marijuana, but I've used it in other ways. I don't smoke weed now because I know I have snitch ass mofuxas that will rat me out. I also don't like the idea of "smoking" it out of a joint. I'd use a bong, but I really don't like smoking stuff w/ cigarette-like apparatuses. I'll probably be using herb regularly in college, but not enough to distract me from goals.

I have a pretty relaxed attitude toward non-major drugs, but there are always people who take things too far. I guess you kinda just have to know your limits and be responsible.

...I'm 17, btw.

LOL we're the same age then. For some reason it always seemed like we were the same age lmao, I don't know why.

So, how about sports? My favorite sport is basketball. I used to play Baseball for my old school, and I play football for fun. Along with tennis, which I'm gonna play for my school. And I like volleyball too lol. Do the rest of you guys like to play sports?

I messed up my leg playing basketball in addition to other things. Long story short, I can't really do any sports related activities until next summer. Well, nothing that involves like... running or damaging my knee of any sort.

I love soccer, though. I can still physically play and whatever, but I regret it a couple hours afterwards cuz my leg (basically my knee) gets really puffy and swollen and whatnot.

Anyways, Soccer and volleyball are my sports.

Let's see for me...

I'm a senior in high school, I go to the same one as FR and Mike (Kintaro).

I play tennis like FR, but I also take Shaolin Kung Fu.

I like to read a lot, especially on Gandhi and Chinese history. My favorite author is Michael Crichton, and I've read about 6 of his books.

I'm about to take a motorcycle riding course and get my class M license and a Kawasaki motorcycle before November ends.

I tend to screw up friendships, either by being annoying or insulting.

I love anime and manga. My favorite being Full Metal Alchemist.

My first choice college is Johns Hopkins and I'll hopefully major in neuroscience and enter a premed program.

Oh and I don't smoke nor drink...

Posted by: Kanki-chan Sep 5 2007, 02:19 AM
All right, all right. If you guys really want the details, I've been at University of Nebraska-Lincoln (aka the Huskers) for the past week, where I'm majoring in Broadcasting, possibly minoring in International Relations.

The main reason I was an "outcast" at the small high school was becuase I wasn't into sports (just keeping score for them), I'm more of a rocker than a country/rap person, I skipped a grade but was forced to stay with my class (I graduated w/21 college credits), and I get hyper after drinking soda/energy drinks. Oh, and because nobody liked the Japanese anime/manga that I brought with me from my old High School.

Ah well, none of them are here, and I've had a lot more fun getting into Judo, the Hall government, Anime Club, and hopefully the College Radio Station.

I will admit, I can be kinda sarcastic, but more of the kind to write stuff on the whiteboards on the dorm floors, hopefully people get a laugh when they read them.

I don't like to talk about myself much because it makes me feel like I'm boasting, but I'll give it a shot.

honestly, im not on the computer that much. Really, the only times im on the computer is during the summer, weeknights(maybe 7-9), and sundays. I go to the same school as DS, and its as cool as school can be. So, i guess I'm really not a nerd or anything.

I hang out with friends A LOT. I drink a lot, I do weed occasionally, but not all that much(mostly cuz i don't have connections anymore cuz last year's senior class left). I drink a good deal on weekends and I also smoke hookah with DS occasionally.

I also play tennis, basketball, and a shitload of video games. I completely and utterly pwn at Guitar Hero and love rhythm games.

I also play a shitload of Halo 2 on Xbox Live. I don't have an xbox though, but i play almost everyday at my friend's house.

So in short, I am super friend-oriented and would much rather hang out with people, than IM them. My parents get super pissed cuz im out all the time, but their indian(and so am i) so i guess their half-forgiven.

Well, that's me. I'm 17 too btw.

Posted by: FinalRagnarok Sep 10 2007, 07:42 PM
LOL word you play Halo? I play that all the time. But my parents have been like asking me not to play until SAT's are over (they're indian also, so its expected). I didn't think you were a brown man lmao.

Posted by: Ds14 Sep 10 2007, 09:44 PM
Just for the record, I'm straight up African, not African American. Naija 4 lyfe, nyiggguhh.

yeah im a brown man lol. Im not a very cultured brown man, actually i pretty much act white. I listen to effin death metal and shitee. It's pretty wierd. You brown FA? I actually can't picture any brown peeps watching anime and/or browsing roleplay forums. Except myself, of course.

and yeah...DS is pretty african. he's even got his very own penis shaped necklace straight from DA MUDDERLAND (the motherland)

LOL no way, you're brown too. Well if you act white, then I guess you can call me the opposite of you lol. I do have one or two rock songs on my I-pizzle but the rest of the stuff is R&B and hip hop. I guess I sound like a lot of brown kid posers who try to act black lmao (trust me I definitely ain't like that).

Hell I thought I was like one of the few brown people that post on stuff like this lol. I play Halo alot tho just like a lot of other brown kids. Mickey aka Uchiha Mikyas got me into WoW which is pretty hot. I'm gonna try hard not to get addicted tho, cuz that wouldn't be good.

I love how people, such as yourself, look at Africa as a country... I'm Ethiopian, and I wouldn't consider Africa as "the motherland."

That would be like me assuming you must be indian because you're brown. Meanwhile you can easily be from Pakistan or another middle eastern country.

Lol, Africa is the motherland for all black people, though. I don't have a problem with "motherland" comments, but I do have one with thinking Africa is a country.

I'm just going to start telling people that when you get to the airport, you are immediately forced to strip naked and then you get on a lion and ride where you want to go.

Posted by: Kuroukami Yukio Sep 12 2007, 03:49 AM
well i don't consider africa a country, i just use the term "motherland" for kicks. Sorry if I offend. But, in my opinion, I don't think using "motherland" really has any implications on whether or not Africa is a country(which it isn't).

Posted by: FinalRagnarok Sep 12 2007, 07:37 PM
Yeah, using the word motherland doesn't have any country implications. It's just the place you'd call your home. I guess true African Americans consider all of Africa their home and not just the specific country they're from.

Well, apparently, I am brainless, as of late.

lol...silly freshman class.

Though, it really grinds my gears to hear some idiot who apparently hasn't gone through my experiences to say I don't have a brain; along with my mom, dad, friends, and just about everyone else that seems to have that thought in their mind when I see their faces.

And this is rich, this freshman is thirteen and got bumped up a grade and is in Algebra II.

Well, I am calm about it now. I was seriously about to mess up that kid. I guess I will just go along with his inaccurate first impression of me until he cannot stand my group any longer. lol

Also...I will apologize in advance if my activity seems to imply I am no longer here or something. I still am...just hooked into .hack//G.U. right now. haha

Beat the first two, and the last one, I just barely started. If I can get to the PS2 before my brother, I should be done with it within the week, except for item collection and stuff. I will take longer on all that, but will still show up here when I can.

i personaly am a Czech, German, Irish, Scotish, Cherokee and possibly with some Russain and/or Crow. but all in all i am an American. ( and maybe English too )

and for where i think i stand, im a drama geek and a christain, i homeschool so if im with my friends it's after school somewhere. i mainly stay in may group of friends. we all talk on the phone if we can and plan the next time we are going to meet up.

like im the guy who all his friends are girls and none of them are his girlfriend, and if im with my small group of friends that are guys it's mainly messing around talking about nothing... or girls.

but around town im not at all popular most people know me as that kid at the store. or that scappy little kid. but luckly enough i finaly had my growth spert 10 inches in one year and 60lbs over two. now i'm 5'6'' and 110lbs instead of 4'8''-9'' and 60-70lbs

personaly i think most girls are easier to talk to get along with like i said.but guys are open to hearing what girls actully think because we are sooooo clueless somtimes its good to have friends that tell me the do's and don't.

Posted by: Ds14 Oct 11 2007, 04:02 AM
Both have their problems. I get along with either pretty fine, but they both have their things they do that bother me. Girls complain a lot, but they fight, so I get entertained in return. Boys throw things at each other for no reason and sometimes they get hurt, so I get entertained.

Posted by: Kanki-chan Oct 11 2007, 03:26 PM
Lol, I actually find guys more bearable than girls, but mostly because they're easier to talk to imo. Oh, and it's easier to burn guys than girls. One time this guy friend of mine was complaining randomly that he was sick of his farmer's tan, and without looking up from my DS I just replied, "Look, if it bothers you that much, just do what the other girls do and go tanning."

It took him a couple of seconds to realize that 1) I was caling him a girl for complaining, and 2) tanning would work. Either way it got a good laugh and an awesome burn.

Posted by: Ds14 Oct 11 2007, 09:29 PM
Girls are as easy; just call them fat.

Posted by: Kanki-chan Oct 12 2007, 02:39 AM
Actually, that depends on the girl you're talking to. Then again, I'm talking more like reaction rather than being able to burn them. In other words, if you call the wrong girl fat, you might end up with a swift kick to the groin.

Sure, you'll have burned her, but somehow I doubt a burn is worth a kick to the nads.

Insult a guys intelligence enough and he'll give up and punch you in the face. A girl would probably do the same.

I hate my intelligence getting insulted from people who don't even know my name.

Sure, I act like and idiot all the time, but that's just an act...and a little bit of not really training myself to show some self-control... >.>;;

Yeah...into the insults:

If I'm irritated, I say the first thing that comes to mind, whether it is an insult or not. I generally not care how people take it. Unless I want to laugh and say something for the lulz.

Example:

Some sophomore was talking about her internet boyfriend and how this one guy reminded her of him.

My reply:

What? Nonexistent?

My friend gave me 1,000 internetz for that comment.
Meh...the girl is kind of irritating now and again, and it got lots of lulz. She laughed a little bit before coming up behind me and slamming her hand on the back of my head. (It hurt somewhat. <.< )

The algebra 1 teacher on lunch duty said I probably deserved that. xD

Posted by: Kanki-chan Oct 12 2007, 07:04 PM
Eh, I think we should change the subject, considering that this thread isn't about the best way to insult someone.

But on the note of intelligence, I noticed that since I've been back in school I've acted a little more immature. Not 24/7, but more often than I used to. Probably just because my parents aren't here watching what I do.

And I have been having trouble figuring the logic behind Portal laugh.gif

Posted by: Kinbaku katonzuka Oct 12 2007, 10:49 PM
ya Kanki-chan's pry right.
but how do you see your self as immature? i mean we all (or at least i) want more freedom some of the time. and i already act immature some of the time but im a fifteen year old kid ya know everything thaat i do now will pry be looked on as immature once i get older anyway. i say live it to your standards and to the fullest this is your only life. but atempt not to do any thing too stupid. like drink ect. like i said to your standards.

No way. I was accused of snitching on this kid who brought alcohol on the bus.

However, they did find out who did. Apparently it was this tiny child from the middle school.

My school is a high school and middle school in the same building O.o, go figure.

Anyway, for a good few months I was labeled as a "snitch" as well.

complete opposite. DS could probably tell you. I say if you're decently responsible when you drink, no worries. It's the idiotic drinking that gets you in trouble.

My rules for the most part are having a designated dirver and never drinking on an empty stomach. Other than that, it's all fair game.

But, underage drinking isn't terrible if you're responsible. It's the idiots who make it looked down upon(drinking & driving etc.)
