Naruto Jiyuu > Life Outside the Internet > So, it's really cold outside

Posted by: Ds14 Feb 3 2007, 11:09 PM
So it's supposedly 7 degrees here and the wind chill is supposedly -25ish. I took boiling water and threw it in the air and it made this huge like... poof of steam. If u live by Chicago, it's probably cold enough to do it right now.

Not a big deal, but it was pretty "flippin' sweet"

(sorry for the Napoleon quote)

I don't understand why you attempted this or what was so astonishing. Hot moist air + cool surface = Fog. What were you expecting, an explosion?

Posted by: Ds14 Feb 3 2007, 11:38 PM
I wasn't surprised it happened at all. I'm in AP Chem, I know how that works. But I was shocked how well it worked and the fact that it was actually that cold. That and in between checking my facebook and checking up over here, I have basically nothing to do.

I see. So this is pretty much equivalent to the Mentos/Diet Coke experimenters who videotape what they already know happens...

Posted by: Ds14 Feb 3 2007, 11:50 PM
Basically.

I thought it had to be like -40 for it to change phase that fast, though.

It was like it like.... poofed.

Cool lol. Did the water disappear? Or did it have time to hit the ground?

Posted by: Ds14 Feb 4 2007, 01:31 AM
It hit the ground, but before it hit, it looked like a fxing cloud.

wow... talk about super natural. oops! sorry, typo on that. i meant super normal tongue.gif

Posted by: Ds14 Feb 25 2007, 09:03 PM
No, it like instantly un-steamed itself. And it made a noise when it hit the ground.

Posted by: Uchiha Mikyas Feb 25 2007, 11:29 PM
What kind of noise? blink.gif

Posted by: Ds14 Feb 25 2007, 11:35 PM
Unless I was imagining it, (it landed in snow) it made a clicking noise. And when it turned into steam it went *poof*. Lol.

Like, have you ever eaten a mouth full of pixie sticks and then laughed on accident?

LOL, I can't say I have. But that's pretty cool. I tried doing that when it was cold after reading this thread. Needless to say, I failed miserably LOL.

That same night, I poured boiling water on the ground and put my foot, covered in sweat pants in it for about 2 seconds. By the time I pulled it out, enough had frozen that it felt like my foot was sticky. (For like a millisecond after)

Just move to California. Simple solution to any weather related problem. I would stay out of Southern California however, nothing but crap down there.

LA. Really, horrible city. Would go as far to say worst in the country, if not the world! Full of desert, nothing of value comes from down there...just general things like that.

Northern California is vastly superior. Apart from having SF, where I was born, it also has lush forests and beautiful mountains. Nothing better than taking a trip up there and taking a walk through a redwood forest.

lol, you think LA is bad? Go to Amsterdam at night... unsure.gif
