anyone going to see it this friday when it comes out?

Posted by: Nirubi-chan Mar 5 2007, 10:22 PM
Probably not.. it's looking kind of lame to me. A bit OD on the special effects

i think it looks amazing.

the entire movie was filmed infront of a blue screen and the special effects are to make it look more like the comic book the movie is based on.

Comic book? Its a story from Sparta. Its the tale of the 300 Spartans who defended a pass against a much larger army. Its been awhile since I covered any of this, but I believe it was the Persians. The point is, I was thinking about seeing it, but now that I hear its based off a comic and not the actual event...

Posted by: Hokori Mar 5 2007, 11:24 PM
Yes, the same people that created the sin city comic book also created a comic book called 300. based on the tale of the 300 spartans and supposed 1 million persians.

I'm definitely gonna see it. It looks like the biggest testosterone builder since gladiator lol

Posted by: Ds14 Mar 6 2007, 01:03 AM
I think I am, too. It got a 100% on rotten tomatoes.

Posted by: FinalRagnarok Mar 6 2007, 11:42 PM
100% on rotten tomatoes? That's sick

Posted by: Ds14 Mar 6 2007, 11:55 PM
I guess more people voted and now it's at 75%. But that's still good by my books.

Posted by: Hokori Mar 7 2007, 01:10 AM
Either way, Im going to see it this friday at the IMAX.

Posted by: Uchiha Mikyas Mar 7 2007, 01:13 AM
Usually movies that get a lot of hype before they come out, end up not meeting the viewer's expectations. 300's going to be a disappointment, I can almost guarantee it.

Posted by: Vox Mar 7 2007, 11:58 PM
Read the comic, and it rocked. And since Frank himself is overseeing this, they can't screw it up too bad!

Posted by: Hokori Mar 10 2007, 04:08 AM
just saw it

amazing

go see it

now

Posted by: Omega2042 Mar 10 2007, 04:54 AM
If I am going to go see a movie its going to be Reno 911! Which I assume would be better than this anyway.

Posted by: JauntyHat Mar 10 2007, 06:24 AM
Saw it. Kicked ass. Not A dissappointment. AT ALL.

Posted by: Ds14 Mar 10 2007, 12:57 PM
I was going to go see it w/ my friends yesterday. But a lot of bad stuff happened to me and I have the SAT today. I'll do it today somehow.

Posted by: Uchiha Mikyas Mar 10 2007, 02:30 PM
Good luck, I'm glad my SAT is on May 5th.

they pulled it off to perfection IMO. Not one line in the movie wasn't epic nor well done. If I were to spell out everything that was great abt the movie i'd be staring at my computer screen for a LONG ASS TIME

Definitely

Oh I very highly doubt this. This movie seems nothing more than something made for testosterone driven teenage boys. It seems like an average war movie. In that the battle scenes will be nice, but outside of that the conflict is straightforward and the outcome is clear from the start.

High production values and bloody scenes does not a good movie make.

Posted by: FinalRagnarok Mar 12 2007, 10:51 AM
That may be so, but just because the battles were well choreographed doesn't mean everything else was forgotten. We all knew that the 300 Spartans were going to be decimated seeing as how they went up against millions of Persians. But the Spartans do of course win in the end. All the lines in the movie were well delivered and sounded good, and the musical score really helped to convey how epic the movie actually was. All of my friends were more amazed at the fact that the lines were as good as the battles, than the actual battles themselves (which were of course nothing to sneeze at). The movie also really helped to capture the true essence of a Spartan Warrior. They were everything you imagined them to be. They were swift, ruthless, cunning, strong, and full of honor which makes them pretty damn badass XD. And it also captured how the Spartans looked death in the face and said, "Go fudge yourself." It may have been straightforward but it was done to perfection.

You and your talk omega, continue please. Tell us how bad the movie is when you've never seen it in its entirety. I want to hear more of your banter biggrin.gif

Just to make this clear, the top two movies in my opinion are Citizen Kane and Seven Samurai. So I tend to look at films differently than most people I normally come in contact with.

Why does one have to go see a movie to know they wont like it? I sit here reading all your reviews and pick up that all it seems to be is a standard war movie with more special effects. My main point was dont hype this movie up to be the greatest thing ever when chances are it has a simplistic plot and seems to have only one conflict that drives the story.

Posted by: Ds14 Mar 13 2007, 04:19 AM
I haven't seen it, but it's not really the special effects that will make it awesome beyond belief. It's the style. That's why Kill Bill was a good movie and not just someone walking around w/ a sword and pwning left and right. And also why A Clockwork Orange gave me a generally creepy feeling.

Posted by: JauntyHat Mar 13 2007, 06:19 PM
There's nothing wrong with saying you wouldn't like a movie. But there is something wrong with saying it IS a bad movie when you havent seen any of it. Its just a child like way of thinking, something like saying you wouldn't like carrots because you heard from other people that carrots weren't good.

btw i have tried carrots and they aren't good at all :3

You can bash the movie just for the hell of it, and say it has a simplistic plot if you want. But you really shouldn't be expecting an amazing plot due to the fact that this was based on the Battle of Thermopylae in Greek History. You don't need an amazing plot to drive a story that was based on historical events because the plot was already made for you. The plot is irrelevant in this movie because they couldn't drastically change anything or else they'd get bashed for being ridiculously inaccurate. Since the plot is irrelevant there's not much else that could be bashed for this movie. The style of the movie was amazing to say the least. And the delivery of the lines were second to none. And the fact that the actual lines of the movie were comparable to Pulp Fiction only serves to help it even more. And there's no point in getting into battle scenes since we all have an idea of how well choreographed they were.

no, 299 die. one lives to go back to the senate to try and rally up troops to fight against xerxes

Posted by: JauntyHat Mar 18 2007, 11:00 PM
actually 301 die, since the captain had assembled 300 of his finest men. Not including himself and Leonidas

Posted by: FinalRagnarok Mar 19 2007, 01:00 AM
LOL, if you say so. I'm tempted to bring up the fact that Leonidas kept on saying 300 spartans and stuff but we all know that's stupid since no one's gonna say 302 spartans, since 300 sounds better XD

Posted by: Vox Mar 19 2007, 02:13 AM
Saw it today. Spartans rock, no question.

Posted by: FinalRagnarok Mar 19 2007, 07:33 PM
greatest warriors ever! XD

So what was your favorite line Vox?

Posted by: Vox Mar 19 2007, 07:52 PM
"We had to say it! We fight in the shade!"
-Stelios

Posted by: FinalRagnarok Mar 19 2007, 08:24 PM
LOL that line was sick, mine was:

"After killing your men all day I appear to have developed a slight cramp in my leg, so kneeling will be hard."
-Leonidas
