Title: I've been thinking.
Description: I do that a lot.

I was reading Naruto again 'cos I felt like it, and I came across the pages where Anko is hunting for Orochimaru.
Orochimaru states that Anko is a 'special jounin', but what makes a special jounin different from a normal jounin? Are they granted special privileges, or what?

Anko isn't a rank... She's a character who wasn't originally from Konoha. Anko was found after Orochimaru had branded her with his Curse seal and then abandoned her. He also erased Anko's memory of it. She discovers her memories after one of her missions in the anime.

Eventually, Anko finds her way back to the place where she received the curse mark from Orochimaru and remembers what happened. She discovered that she wasn't tossed away like trash, but chose to leave Orochimaru herself.

Anko, along with nine others, were branded with Orochimaru's first ten Cursed Seals of Heaven. Of the ten, Anko was the only one to survive, establishing the one-in-ten chance of surviving the Cursed Seal.

Supposedly, Orochimaru rejected Anko as a subordinate, believing she did not have the lust for power or vengeance needed to fuel the Cursed Seal. Orochimaru lost interest in her, though he believed there is some value in letting her live. Orochimaru was able to reawaken her cursed seal during their battle in the Forest of Death, thus incapacitating her with pain and ending their fight. Anko knows several forbidden techniques taught to her by Orochimaru.

So to sum it up, Anko is a 'special' jounin because she had been a successful test subject having survived the Cursed seal, knows a lot of forbidden snake jutsus, and also that Konoha isn't her home town/village.

You're lucky this wasn't a hardcore Naruto rp. Otherwise, you would have been flamed with "noob" posts. Fortunately, I'm a nice guy and chose to waste the time that somebody else would have had to spend to answer your question...

Oh and another thing, Anko hunts Orochimaru at the Chuunin exams which wasn't too far at all into the manga. So to be reading Naruto again after what sounds like a long time, you shouldn't ask these questions until you read further along. Let's put it this way, if you haven't finished reading the Chuunin exams, wait till you get there before you start with, "Lawl!!11 Wh4t is 4nko!?!!"

Ugh.

I did NOT say 'Anko' was a rank.

I was specifically asking what makes a special jounin different from a normal jounin.

What was so hard to understand about that?

Not to anger you/rile you up/start an argument, but people always misinterpret me on these boards.

And I'm at the latest chapter, thanks very much. I just like re-reading the old ones.

Anyway, it looks like this is going to mutate into some sort of argument, so I'm getting out of here before it starts.

It's blatantly obvious that you were referring to a special jounin as a rank. Read your first post closely, you said "are they given special priveleges?", which means you were referring to special jounin as a group. You also asked what makes a special jounin different from a normal one. If you knew one was a rank and one wasn't, why would you ask that question in the first place?

Referring to a special jounin as a rank and then Anko as a special jounin, rank = special jounin, do the math and you get Anko = rank. This comes dangerously close in relation to your post on Ds14's bloodline, where you obviously implied that you thought she stole your site's ideas and soon after replying to Omega, "I never said that!", all when you knew damn well what you meant to say...

No, man!

Ebisu and Ibiki are also classified as Special Jounin, but I don't remember them being ex-followers of Orochimaru. I just wondered what the difference was between a normal jounin and a special jounin.

As for the Ds14 thing, don't try and blame your own misunderstandings on me. I already explained that wa my weird way of suggesting that a bloodline I created and the Hana-Ouji could be genetically related in the storyline.

You did read that post, didn't you? Or maybe you were too busy being ignorant and proclaiming that other people were noobs to notice it.

alright, both of you calm down. I'm closing this topic and no one else can post in it.
