Character Name: Kouten Laien
Character Age: 24
Character Height: 5’7’’
Characters Weight: 130lbs
Starting Village: Leaf
Character Appearance: Physical Description: Laien is an average sized woman and incredibly fit. She has large leg and arm muscles since she regularly swims. She also has a large black archaic tattoo on her right shoulder, which she received at an earlier age during training. Her hair is a nice charcoal color and just below shoulder length. Laien’s eyes are a darker brown, almost an almond color. She stands at 5’7’’ when she is not wearing her military boots, which add an additional three inches to her height. She is also well known in Leaf for her exquisite beauty, especially for a high-ranking official. However, she has a large lightning bolt scar streaking down the right side of her face from a previous injury.
Clothing: Laien outside of battle wears a decorated jacket fitted to her size and long legged pants that reach her ankles. Her jacket is a dark brown and has gold cufflinks near the wrist. Her pants are a darker shade of brown, one that’s almost a solid black. She wears black-military-commissioned shoes, ones that allow enough ventilation but could also be worn at a formal gathering. She also wears a brown military cap with a metal insignia of Leaf placed at the back of the rim and a black band going around the entire cap to and from the insignia. While engaging in combat she removes her jacket to reveal a tight fitting black tank top. She will also don a sturdy pair of black gloves with padding over the knuckles.
History: Kouten Laien was born under bad circumstances. During complications at birth, her mother went into a coma during labor and had to receive a c-section in order to deliver the child. Shortly after the procedure she passed away, and Laien was born without ever hearing her mother’s voice. Her father, Kouten Hito, was traumatized by this event and cherished his daughter as a reminder of his deceased wife. As the years passed Laien grew up to be a normal young girl. She played dress up, had a fairly large collection of dolls and had several other girl friends she hung out with. Laien’s father was always around to help her in times of need and when she needed moral support.
When she was around eleven years old, however, things started to change. The trauma of losing his life finally reared its ugly head on Hito. After returning home from the pub one night, he assaulted Laien while he was in a drunken stupor. When he eventually came to, he found his daughter bloodied on the floor. Hito called for the authorities after realizing what he had done, realizing that he what he had done was indeed a serious crime. When the shinobi police showed up they arrested Hito treated Laien’s wounds. Laien was immediately taken from her father’s custody and sent to a foster family since she no longer had any living relatives. This foster family lived several miles away from where she used to live, because of this she was taken out of the academy and would be raised as a regular child would.
The foster family was less then loving towards Laien when she arrived. In the foster home there was at least a dozen other children that had been given to this family to take care of and the last thing they needed was another one. The government forced Laien upon them since there was no other establishment close enough to her previous location. Hesitantly, they accepted Laien only under the principal that they would receive an even high monetary compensation for the extra child. Laien was often ignored and regularly picked on by the other children within the home, most of which were several years older then her. She slowly began to revert into a more pathetic lifestyle, always staying by herself and constantly crying herself to sleep and refusing to go or do anything with the other children and the guardians.
Around the age of fifteen Laien had experienced huge amounts of torment and sadness in her life, so naturally she started to get aggressive. She finally began to stand up for herself when the others picked on her. When one of the older boys in the group shoved her onto the ground she would respond with a punch across the face. Unlike the other instances of violence in the household, it seemed that only Laien was punished when she acted out. No other child was even reprimanded, not even when one of them broke Laien’s arm. Alone in such a populated home is enough to change a person. And change is what Laien did.
One day the guardians of the children needed to leave them unattended in order to go grocery shopping. Seeing this as an opportunity to mess around with her, some of the older boys in the house tried to gang up on Laien. This would be the last straw, as they approached Laien, she ran into the kitchen with the boys close behind. As they drew near, she grabbed one of the large tenderizing hammers located above the stove. When she grabbed it she immediately turned around and smashed it against one of the boy’s face. Blood spat across the room, including several teeth. Laien and the remaining boys that were still standing looked in astonishment at what she done. The boy on the ground was writhing in pain, clutching at his mouth, which was covered in blood. At the sight of the boys pain and the mere amount of blood, a normal child would be struck with fear and guilt at what they had done to another human being. Not Laien; the sight of her aggressor on the ground, incapacitated due to her actions made her smile. The other boys seeing this ran out of the room in fright as Laien stood there with the bloody hammer, almost hovering over their downed comrade. She raised her weapon once more and struck a second, third and fourth blow. Blood shot outward with every hit; a small puddle of the red liquid began to form underneath the two. Before she could land a fifth one of the guardians grabbed the hammer and almost threw Laien across the room. The woman had forgotten her checkbook and needed to retrieve it before purchasing the groceries. She grabbed the bleeding child and lifted him off the ground, almost cradling him in her arms. The next day Laien was taken from the home and placed within an underage boot camp since she was too dangerous to be taken care of in a home life.
As Laien arrived at the camp she made it clear as soon as she arrived that she wouldn’t take anything from anybody. The more rowdy delinquents in the camp avoided Laien like the plague. Most claimed that she brought an evil aura wherever she went. From her appearance it would be hard to notice it, but it was how she acted that made clearer. Her total lack of respect for authority in the first year of camp for her was astounding, she was probably the only person in the camp who could stand toe-to-toe with an instructor in a battle of words. Oftentimes she’d actually win these battles with the teachers actually walking away in pure anger, leaving the discussion as it was. To back up her words she proved herself in her training; Laien was one of the top students within the camp, earning high marks for physical combat and weapon training, even though she had been without shinobi training for at least four years prior to that. When it became dark, she slept by herself; no student would willingly sleep in a bed next to hers. This continued for the remainder of her first year.
The second year came around and Laien’s authority among the other students and even most of the instructors remained intact. This lasted for half of the year until a new instructor showed up at the camp. The reason behind this new addition wasn’t made clear to the rest of the students but Laien was told personally that since she was the most unruly person the camp had received in recent memory, they called in one of the higher authorities to send them someone who could deal with her. This man was called Itami Shuyou. He stood at a towering 7ft tall and was built like machine. Although it is a rumor, the reason why Laien even thought about respecting this man came from the “battle” the two participated in. Although he was a man who could physically overpower anyone, he had strict morals and would never raise a fist to another human being unless he was in serious danger. For around two and half hours the two verbally abused each other, insulted everything about the other person, attempting to destroy the other person’s ego. The battle eventually came to a close when Laien conceded when her vocal chords became so raw that she couldn’t speak for the remainder of the week. From that point on the only person Laien would train under was Shuyou. He kept her in line and slowly developed her into a respectful warrior within the camp. She no longer went out of her way to cause other students pain, she listened to her other instructors, and her former personality began to return; she loosened up and wouldn’t let her anger control her fate.
The third year was when she met Yurikina Raiko. Physically she wasn’t that attractive of a woman, but surprisingly the men in the boot camp still fancied her. Probably because Laien was the only other female enlisted. At first Laien resented the mere fact that she had competition, even though she herself wasn’t interested in anyone, but eventually Raiko grew on her and Laien found herself an ally in the world who wasn’t 7ft tall and huge and who she could speak with on a more regular basis. The two conversed for several hours every few nights talking about their pasts and other meaningful topics. Then, one night, Raiko asked Laien what she were her dreams for the future, obviously she had to have something to look forward to after she got out of the camp. Laien was shocked, she never understood that the camp was merely a disciplinary tool for children and teenagers, and was never meant to be a permanent residence. At that point in time Laien had no answer for Raiko and simply shrugged it off for a later time. When the time came to know what she needed to do she would know. For now she would just have to endure the present.
The last year went by fast. Laien improved her skill in combat even further, focusing on her raw power and speed with a more hand-to-hand combat skills then ninjutsu. Raiko was obviously more talented in that so Laien “allowed” Raiko to teach her some of the basics while Laien helped her out with her troubles during her stay. Eventually it was time for graduation and Laien had proven herself to be a dependable soldier and citizen. She said her goodbyes to Raiko and Shuyou and went outside the camp back into the real world.
She was Twenty-One years old and finally outside the disciplinary system. One of the major problems was that because the military schooling, she was forced to leave her shinobi training behind. The camp she went to was government run and had almost nothing to do with the hidden village that she had been from. In their standards she was still an academy student. After all that training Laien felt she had all the potential in the world to become an elite shinobi. Soon after being released from the camp she returned to her hidden village with all the information that she had received from her training at the camp as well as her personal information she kept from her time in the village.
When she arrived she went to discuss her return to her shinobi training. To her dismay they would only grant her graduation from the academy and would be formally recognized as a genin of Leaf as long as she set up a permanent residency within the village. There she was, twenty-one years old and only ranked as high as a genin. Of course this infuriated her, she hadn’t gone through almost a decade at a military training only to be recognized as a genin. Laien knew she was at least as powerful as an adept Jounin. The shinobi council however denied her the ability to jump from the ranks of academy in Jounin in one sitting. They proclaimed that she would need to spend at least half a year as a genin and to be graded accordingly in order to advance in rank. With that they had her removed from the building and had her signed up for a genin team the next week.
Holding in her anger towards the system of government, she showed up at the spot she was ordered to wait at. It was a simple bench in the middle of a park, and no one else was around. Had she been duped and simply brushed a side once more by her superiors? She did show up fairly early for the appointment but it was still unusual for her that a park in such a populated area be completely vacant. Several minutes passed and not a single soul showed its presence…that is until two small children ran by. Laien looked over the two, a boy and a girl, and she shuddered at the possibility that they would be her comrades for the next six months. Soon came the Jounin team sensei, he was only a couple years older then her but he was equally surprised to find that someone around his age would be his understudy. The little boy and girl looked up to Laien and were not afraid but rather delighted that a ‘big girl’ would be training with them.
The six months passed fairly quickly for Laien, probably because she was in a drunken haze every night after her ‘training’ to dull the extreme boredom and to drown out the mundane tasks she had to go through with every single day. Sometimes she would have to rescue cats from trees, while other times she had to delivery groceries to old women. She obviously outperformed the ten and twelve year olds that accompanied her every day, most of the times finishing the jobs single-handedly when she got extremely frustrated at the pace of the genin. By the end of the six months she was recommended to stay out of the missions for the most part and to let the younger children perform them on their own, only to join in when the rare emergency arrived (such as a sprained ankle or falling into the river). Thankfully the end of her six months also brought the chuunin exam. In order for her to be completely recognized as a chuunin she needed to pass this test. With her assistance her group easily got through the first stages of the exam and ended in first place. When the tournament came she decided to restrain herself while still putting on a show. She fought skillfully in the tournament and went through the entire proceedings without destroying her opponents. With the praise of her team sensei and a positive judging she was promoted to chuunin easily.
But as far as promotions went that was as far as they’d allow her to go. She once again had to deal with the long process of proving herself. As she graduated from the rank of genin she soon found out of the organization of the ANBU. She looked deeper into the subject and realized that it was the perfect career choice for her. Once again her lack of a true rank inside the hidden village became a hindrance to her. The organization was not about to let someone who just became a chuunin into their ranks. Laien once again had to prove her worthy to her country and leadership. Throughout most of her time as a chuunin she was put through several tests and tasks that focused on her fighting abilities and espionage techniques in order for the ANBU to find a suitable environment to place her, and if she was even up to the job. One of the benefits to not being extremely known was that the leaders of the ANBU were surprised that such a newly ranked chuunin could perform so well. Eventually when the Jounin exam came around and Laien passed it with flying colors. Now there would be only one step between her and a position within ANBU. She only had to truly prove herself again…

Name: Raiton (Lightning Element)
Special Items: -
Description: A elemental tree that focuses on manipulating the energy known as lightning. Techniques from this tree are often powerful and have different utility effects but they seem to require a large chakra source.
Raiton: Seidenki Dageki (Lightning Element: Static Shock)
Description: A technique often used for training more than actual combat. The shinobi is taught the basis of conducting electricity and using chakra to amplify it to the point where it can harm some one. The shinobi rubs his hands together until they produce a normal size static shock and use chakra to increase the strength by a very minute. Upon having their hand come within one foot of an enemy a small but visible bolt of static electricity is released. The bolt isn’t strong enough to actually damage the enemy other than make them yelp but it causes the limb to twitch slightly. Not stun or paralysis them, just make the limb twitch.
Raiton: Yure Ranpu (Lightning Element: Flickering Light)
Description: A very simple technique that is used as a signal flare more than anything. The shinobi causes his body to light up like a blue streak of lightning for up to two posts. The light cannot blind anyone, cannot harm anyone, and the shinobi cannot move while it is on. While the technique is active he can turn the light on and off really fast for morose code or signs.
Raiton: Hibana (Lightning Element: Sparks)
Description: Raiton: Hibana is often used to create small fires than actually hurt someone although that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have its offensive moments. The shinobi creates a surge of chakra to his index finger and his thumb. Upon snapping them a wave of small sparks is unleashed capable of causing slight burns, starting fires, or blinding an enemy.
Raiton: Raikou Touza (Lightning Element: Lightning Current)
Description: The shinob transfers an electrical current into their weapon or a projectile so that upon the next hit it can cause a slight shock. The real use of this technique is that when someone blocks it with a metallic weapon it travels through their weapon and shocks them anyway.
Raiton: Mahi Dageki (Lightning Element: Paralysis Shock)
Description: The shinobi creates a visible ball of electric energy in the palm of their hands. Upon coming within a foot of their target the ball erupts out into a very visible and very fast beam capable of knocking a shinobi over. If it makes contact the shinobi is stunned for one post and if held out the shinobi is stunned for every post it is held. Neither the enemy or the shinobi holding it can move if it is held out for more than one post. (Can be held out for a max of three posts)
Raiton: Raikou Sen (Lightning Element: Lightning Beam)
Description: The first real offensive technique of this tree. The shinobi concentrates chakra into their fist and releases it in the form of a concentrated blue beam which travels at the speed of a projectile. Anything touched by the beam will suffer a very painful shock and a first degree burn.
Raiton: Raikou Hirate (Lightning Element: Lightning Palm)
Description: The shinobi slams both of his palms into the ground and sends a surge of chakra into it. Once the chakra leaves the body it instantly turns into lightning which travels extremely fast across the ground. When touched by the lightning an enemy will be launched into the air and suffer several painful burns on their feet or legs. Two may be launched at a time and in separate directions if one wishes.
Raiton: Heki (Lightning Element: Burst)
Description: An odd technique that can be either defensive or offensive. The shinobi releases a surge of chakra from their hands that extends out to about two feet and spreads up and down covering the entire width and height of the body. Anyone hit by the technique will be caught in a massive shock capable of continuously shocking them for two posts or if used in a defensive manor it can block ninjutsu up to 15k chakra. Obviously a taijutsu user wants to avoid this technique.
Raiton: Kusari Raikou (Lightning Element: Chain Lightning)
Description: A powerful technique that officially marks the devastation of this tree. The shinobi releases a very fast arc of lightning from their hands capable of causing second degree burns to what ever part of the body it hits. After it hits the lightning can either chain off to another body part or a totally new shinobi. It can jump up to three times before dying.
Raiton: Kouatsu (Lightning Element: 20,000 Volts)
Description: A dangerous, yet powerful jutsu. The user concentrates enough lightning onto their own body to create a field of 200,000 volts on themselves. While when first created they will be shielded from the lightning, that shield will soon break. Before that happens they must release the energy into something else. Simply getting close to someone is enough to transfer all of it.
I think its obvious I might have done something wrong, so please be aware this is my first character on your system in a year or so.
