Now that they had escaped, Filrion told Marla that the sailors were the pirates in disguise. "Why are those pirates after you? Why does Klarnim have a grudge against you?" More rustling was heard in the distance. Filrion peered through the thick grass, but didn't see anyone. A rain drop fell. Soon several more dropped, until there was a sheet of rain falling across the woods. Unable to hear the rustling through the pattering of rain, Filrion found a position with his back to the roots of an overturned tree.

Marla dropped her ears and fell to four feet, huddling against herself and glaring through her long ears at the rain before finding a dry nich in a tree to hide in and pulling the cubs through. She pulled you across the the nich and, realizing that it was too small for the cubs and her, but not so for Fil, pushed him in and found a large leaf to use as an umbrella, parking herself outside the hole. The rain soon got heavy enough that one couldn't see very far, even in the wooded region. Fil thought he heard Marla mumble something, but over the rain, it was nigh impossible to understand what she said. She backed in front of the nich to keep the rain out and found better shield against the rain. "I'm beginning to hate the rain..."

Filrion realized there was probably nothing to do but wait for the rain to abate. Some pirates ran past their hiding spots, but the group remained undetected. A quarter-hour later the pirates ran back, still not noticing them. Unsure of what to do, Filrion leaned his head back against a comfortable spot of the niche, and began to sleep...

Filrion would awaken later to a pair of screaming cubs and what appeared to be a white rabbit in front of the nich. It was dark and the rain had stopped. The rabbit's ears went up and her paws slammed into the hole, silencing the screams softly without harm to the cups. Filrion thought he saw some kind of bandages around the paws of the white rabbit, but, considering the shadow, it was hard to tell and probably easily dismissable. When she pulled her upper body out of the nich, the rabbit looked around cautiously, standing on her hind legs to get a better view. She scooted in against the entrance a moment later and had a short converse with someone, voice ragged and sounding as though belonging to a member of the pirate crew. Filrion could barely catch what was being said. 'You seen... 2 squirrel and a fox... black rabbit 'bout yer size...' "Nup. Hain't seen a one 'a tha lot. Letcha know if ah do?" the other harumphed and apparently moved on. She backed out and looked about to converse with the lot of you when another suddenly ran through. The same converse ensued, save that this person had seen her motion towards the tree. 'What'cha hidin' thar?' "Just my kits. They're still wet from las' nit's rain an' I needta gettem back ta tha run. Let'cha know 'f ah sees em?" 'I dun' b'leeve ya. Lemme see!' "Git off, ya ruddy asshat!" The rabbit bounced against the tree and a white feather fell loose, revealing a patch of black, dark as night, making sharp contrast against the white. 'Lemmeh see 'er else!' "Git off! Yeh don' belon'!" A large amount of force shoved the rabbit against the hole, presumably said rabbit kicking the foe with her back legs. A single, muttered word was uttered before the white form dissappeared. "Hide..." Now, Fil could see beyond the entrance, where the rabbit was beating bloody a weasle easily twice her length or more, scratching quickly at eyes and paws, and repeatedly punching her legs into his gut. The spot of pitch stuck out starkly in contrast to the rest of her body as she pounced. She ran quickly back to you and grabbed the foxcub in her jowels. "Get Lupine, c'mon!" She looked over her shoulder at the weasle, his body silent and still, without even breath to stir it's belly. She hadn't come out completely unharmed, though, despite her feathered armor. She had a slightly limp in her left hind leg and several scratches all over her body, many feathers out of place or ripped, revealing strips and splotches of black.

Filrion grabbed Ivren and yanked him out of the hiding spot. Drawing his sword, he held a weasel at bay as Ivren dashed off into the woods and up a tree. Running over to were Marla stood, Filrion said, "I'll draw one towards the river side. Ivren is safe. If you can hide Lupine, we can fight them off." Filrion charged at the weasel, who blocked his blow. Jumping to the side, Filrion swung again at his side. The weasel again blocked. Through a series of such attacks, Filrion slowly began forcing the weasel towards the riverbank. Sweeping low with his sword, and then coming up with his fist, he knocked the weasel into the water. A sudden pain made him jerk, as a thrown dagger buried itself in his shoulder. Sinking to the ground, he pulled out the blade. Grabbing some river mud, he slapped it on the wound...

The rabbit had started off, but turned back around shortly and came over, wrapping you with one paw and tossing you on her back. The reinforcement chain had, for now, been broken, as several calls rang through the woods, the calls of several pirates communicating the message of possible trouble. The rabbit didn't seem to respond to anything as instructed and rammed the tree Ivren had climbed headfirst, not being the best at the act herself, and hindered due to her injuries. She hissed up, through Lupine's fur. "Git down here, Ivren! Hurry up!" She looked over her shoulder at Filrion. "Or at the least you travel with 'im. We can't leave any of the lot of us alone. The cubs won't fare well... Ivren's about as capable of caring for himself as a stick, given trouble to fight through, from what I've seen. Meetcha on the shore come mornin', okay?"

Acknowledging Marla, Filrion clambered up the tree, and cut the branch Ivren was on out from under him. Catching the squealing squirrel, he dragged him back to the ground. "Follow me." Ivren and Filrion crept along the ground near the bank. The pirates voices grew nearer, and Filrion quickened his pace. Finding a huge thick tree, he silently began climbing it, hoping Ivren wouldn't make any noise. Finding a comfortable spot, he began keeping watch. After no pirates had spotted him, he went to sleep. Ivren had managed to get up the tree as well, but was to nervous to sleep...

Marla managed to find an abandoned burrow on the shorline, just large enough for her to squeeze her rump in after the fox cub. She slept facing outward, glad of the lack of lubrication upon her black nose. She'd shaken off all the feathers by now and appeared as little more than a deep, dark hole when she closed her eyes. Although her eyes were closed, she was only lightly asleep at all, listening for, and occasionally watching, pirates walk across the beach, calling out to one another for some kind of help or other. The outflux of wandering pirates died off quite a bit later, after midnight at some time. Marla crawled out of her run and sniffed, looking around cautiously and noting Lupine's light snores. When she found it safe, she dragged the fox cub back out of the hole and woke him, travelling by water, considering her own form of camoflage, as he took his cape and took to the shadows, easily beyond view and not uncomfortable with the arrangements. ~Wonder if the squirrel's'll be okay...~
