The Beach Boys had a song that went, in part, "Christmas comes this time this year." My grandmother watching the Home Shopping Network, where they're hawking Christmas ornaments in the middle of July puts me in mind of that song.

Michael's birthday, too, comes this time each year.

Happy birthday, dude!

26, eh? I have no rote comments for that age.

Happy birthday!

I'll just assume you waited until today because you wanted to include birthday wishes for my brother (he turned 36 today).

Thanks, Daniel. How's life treating you? An LJ update or two would be nice, y'know. biggrin.gif

Of course; why else?

I'm alright, thanks. smile.gif And yourself?

Ah, yes . . . LJ . . . If I had something of relevance to post, I'd do so. biggrin.gif (Also, to my shame, I've boarded the MySpace bandwagon and that site has consumed my life over the last few weeks, so my activity on LJ is increasingly rare.)

I myself am quite happy with everything, actually. And despite a lack of, well, anything that can be considered a lifesign in the last few months from her, I even got a congratulatory message from Vaya on my mobile last Monday (however, when I tried calling her back, all I got was the mailbox).

Re: myspace - I can honestly say this has never interested me enough to make me check it out. However, the impression I get is that it is mostly frequented by the younger ones, a group to which I no longer belong ... *sob*

Seriously, though, I am clueless. What is it that makes myspace so popular?

I think it's linking feature to friends who then have links to their friends, often people you know or used to know, and then it branches out from there and goes on and on. You get in touch with all kinds of people from your past and you can find out what they are doing, if they are married, what the names of their pets are.

These are precisely the reasons I do not have a MySpace account.

No idea.

I originally joined to view friends' profiles (under-16s have their profiles automatically set to 'private') and contact them via the site, and I gradually became addicted to it myself.

I guess there's a stronger sense of community there than LJ has, for example, but I can't really explain its popularity. =/

The stinging guitar work of George Harrison, the rock-steady drum beat of Ringo Starr, and the rip-roaring vocal of Paul McCartney are blaring from my speakers this fine morning.

They say it's your birthday
We're going to have a good time
I'm glad it's your birthday
Happy birthday to you

Thanks, guys. It was indeed a good one, even though (or perhaps because) we no longer give presents to the adults in our family, because everybody has the things they need/want already. I went to work, but it was an okay day, and then the evening was spent among the family.
