(A lot of this is taken from a list posted by Katie, a looong time ago. Most of the formatting and all of the graphics were done by Damien.)
Meliora is a land full of various races and sub-cultures. These are the accepted races. Please try to remain within the normal range of characteristics for each race. Extremely abnormal characters will have to be altered before they are accepted.

Vampirism
*Becoming a vampire: In order to become a vampire, one must be bitten and drained to a near-death level (if they are not already near death. A bite is always necessary). They must then receive blood from a vampire. The process is usually a slow one from there, depending on the individual. During the actual change, the individual who has been exposed to vampirism is extremely vulnerable. Because of this, many sires (a term for one that initiates the change) remain with the vampire-to-be until the change is complete.
Not all beings are capable of becoming a vampire, though. Some are not able to survive the process of converting to vampirism. They may die before the change is complete, their body having been put into a very fragile state before the process began, and some creatures simply reject the 'virus'. It is impossible to know in advance if one will be able to survive the change.
Simply being bitten by a vampire will not cause one to become a vampire in most cases (that's why vampires remain fairly uncommon in Meliora). Some have claimed that this has been enough to turn them, but it is generally believed that the process described above is the only way to create a vampire outside of normal reproduction.
