Normal bandages were so boring. Who wanted a plain, light brown band-aid across their face? Evangeline preferred ones that were bright and vibrant. They much more fun and not so depressing. The bandage across her cheek was a bright orange with yellow polka dots. She had millions of different band-aids scattered around her room due to all the injuries she was prone to getting. This one was caused by yet another Quidditch accident.

All she had been doing was flying around on her broom last night, whacking Bludgers and making them soar across the field. It was natural for a Beater to be practicing with those balls; they were the ones that mattered most to them. It was just practice, nothing serious. Just for fun. She hadn’t expected one of the guys, who were practicing on the other side of the pitch, to send one back her way. Eve hadn’t even been paying attention, so she didn’t see it coming. The black ball had smacked her right in the cheek, almost knocking her off of her broom. She had managed to keep her balance, but her cheek still received a good bit of damage. Pomfrey had mended her cheekbone that had been broken in the process. There was still a big, nasty bruise on her cheek, which as covered with her bandage. The boy didn’t even apologize to her. He said that she should have been ‘alert of her surroundings’. Jerk.

Her bottom half, at the moment, sort of matched her colorful band-aid. The jeans she wore were stained with a number of things – paint from the times she had gotten too carried away with finger paint, grass from rolling down hills, quill ink from doodling out of pure boredom. The pants had been through a lot, it seemed. She had them since she was fourteen, and they still fit perfectly. They were Eve’s lucky jeans. Along with those, she just had on a bright, red hoodie and some beat-up tennis shoes. You could tell that outfits weren’t a big deal to the Ravenclaw. Her blonde hair was pulled back into a messy bun. You would usually see it like that, or in a ponytail. When it was down, she either straightened it or let her natural hair texture take over, which was curls. Usually you saw her in curls because she didn’t want to take the time to straighten it. The only make-up she had put on was a dash of mascara and some chapstick. Appearance wasn’t too important, but she had to look presentable at least. Dresses? No fucking way. She hadn’t worn one in years. They were a pain in the ass.

She had her girly times where she wanted to go shopping or paint her nails (which always got chipped), but most of the time, she was your average tomboy. It wasn’t exactly normal for a veela to act that way, but who wanted to follow the stereotype? Not her. She only had 1/8th of it in her bloody anyway. Big deal. She didn’t get attention from it like her brother did, which she was grateful for. Who wanted a bunch of slimeballs fawning over you? Cam had enough fan clubs for the two of them. Was she jealous? Not really. The only thing she was jealous of was that he was more talented at Quidditch.

So, what was she doing down in the dungeons? Well, it seemed as if the Potions Master was annoyed that she was tardy all the time. The only reason Eve hadn’t gotten in trouble for it before was because the teacher had been letting it slide. She was getting good grades, so who cared? It seemed as if he was tired of giving her chances and was finally taking the time to punish her. Apparently he trusted her, though, because he didn’t even accompany her to the dirty, cold, dark classroom. It hadn’t been used in years, so it was pretty grimy. She was alone, told to clean the room by hand; the Muggle way. It actually was a good punishment since she hated cleaning. Her side of the dorm was a mess. She had already made more than half of the room spotless, her fingers wrinkly from all of the soapy water she had used.

The girl was bored out of her mind. She had the whole day to complete her task – why not take a break? She set the sponge down, brushing stray hairs out of her face. If only someone would come and entertain her. She wasn’t expecting a helping hand; she just wanted to hear another voice. She had been working on the room since eleven, when she woke up. It was 7:30 now and she still hadn’t finished. She hadn’t talked to anyone except the Potions teacher and the occasional ghost all day. It was horrible, since she hated silence. She had been humming random tunes all through her work.

Eve drummed her fingers on the clean floor as she sat on it cross-legged, staring at the door. Many chairs and desks were available, but she didn’t feel like sitting in them. She groaned softly when no one came through the doorway after a good ten minutes, laying down on her side. Company would be excellent, friendly or not. She was willing to welcome anyone at this point.

It wasn't easy for Gem to accept defeat and yet, she had done just that. She had been going through ways of just passing the time because all of her homework had been done and she wasn't in mood for partying or flirting with anyone. She was having one of those times where she felt that she was a little crazy. She shrugged as she walked, she had been wandering from corridors to corridors and now, finally had come where she usually came. Dungeons. It was one place where she really felt as if she had come home, her other, more real home wasn't all that missed. After all, who wanted to be a house where Mum took Apollo aside and Dad took Gem aside.

Gem had always hated that, hated knowing that their parents had preferences even with their children. She pushed aside the troubling thought and turned at a corner. Gem had always wondered if her parents had been a little different, would they have been a normal family? A normal family who didn't care for the gender of their offsprings and loved them anyway. It didn't seem likely and that was what made even more upset. She grimaced and looked around. Finally, something to take her out of this dreadful mood. She had just heard something, at least, she thought she had. It sounded a little off-key but then Gem wasn't particular about that.

She smirked a little and proceeded to open the room from where the sound had come. She expected someone who had been punished by their Potions professor as was usually case but Gem knew otherwise. Although most of the times, students here were serving detentions but it was those other times when the students just came to brew potions. Slytherin students would be found at night, trying to make the potion more effective or if the student wasn't good enough then, she or he would be trying to make it at least worth an A. Fortunately, Gem had never had problems with the subject and was ready to offer help to the student if he or she happened to be Slytherin, otherwise, she would just taunt them mercilessly. It was her definition of fun.

She opened the door and stepped inside, looking around. She found a girl, looking like she was bored. Gem decided that if she weren't Hufflepuff or Gryffindor, she would perhaps be good. Being good meant that she wouldn't tease them and perhaps offer to help. She said, her voice sounding quite happy for someone so bored, "Hey! Serving for detention, are we?"

The sound of footsteps caused the girl to sit up, excited to see a new face. This room had been like solitary confinement for her – no talking to anyone, no outdoors, no food. It was depressing. Eve would definitely try to be on time to Potions class for the next week or so. It wouldn’t last any longer than that; punctuality was not one of her strong points. Her brother had the same problem, always late for everything. The twins had so many things alike, yet they were so different. Their personalities collided most of the time, causing them to snap at each other. She still loved him, though, and they had their moments where they got along great.

As the door opened, Eve observed the girl in one sweeping glance. She knew who she was, of course; Gemini Pucey. A Slytherin known to be a bitch to most people and then a completely opposite, nice person to others. She had never talked to the girl personally, and she wasn’t going to be all hostile just because she was a Slytherin. She seemed to be in one of her good moods, judging from the sound of her happy voice. If she was going to be nice, then why couldn’t Eve return the favor?

The Ravenclaw gave her a smile, still sitting on the newly shiny floor. “Unfortunately. The Potions teacher can be a bastard.”
She rolled her eyes a bit as she said the last part. Really, her Potions teacher was one of her favorites. He had let her get by all this time without punishing her for her tardiness. At the moment, though, she wasn’t quite happy with him. You would feel the same way if you had been cleaning a dungeon for hours. “And cleaning’s not exactly my favorite thing to do. He knows me too well.” Who did like cleaning? Perhaps neat freaks or mothers who wanted their homes to be spotless, but for a teenager, cleaning usually wasn’t a priority. Especially for Eve, since she was always so disorganized, apart from her school work. The notes she took were always so neat and tidy, while her dorm was a complete mess.

“You must be pretty bored to be wandering in here.” No one else had come down all day. Who would? It was just an old classroom. All the Slytherins had strolled by it without a second thought. Either way, she was grateful for the company. She hoped she hadn’t said something bad to make Gemini leave immediately.

Oh yeah. She hadn’t even introduced herself. She probably looked like a rambling freak. Oh well. She was bored. Talking was something she really needed to do. “I’m Eve by the way; Eve Diggory.” Never ever ever did she introduce herself by her real first name. Evangeline was too girly and formal for her personality, at least that’s what she thought.

Gem had been known to be a complete Slytherin bitch but most of the times, she tended to confuse them with her other side. A completely different girl she was at times, a girl who was a nice human being for a change. She had battled with her little problem for years and ignorant though she was not, Gem hadn't yet cracked the problem. Of course there was a little something to be said about her efforts, they were painfully scarce. If Gem had been really wanting to go to the root of her problem then she would have known by now the answer to her behaviour. However, the young Slytherin had never really wanted to find out because once she found out what was wrong with her, then she would have to rectify it which she wasn't willing to do. A true Slytherin she might be but she wasn't about to complain if she were sometimes, for a change, nice.

She studied the girl in front of her, she looked to be around the same age as Gem herself, she decided. Well, it might be something to know more about her, if only to pass the time. The girl was already talking and by her voice, Gem quickly deduced that she was one of those girls. The good ones, the eternally good ones. She sighed softly, oh, well, it didn't matter. She heard the girl saying that the Potions Master was a bastard, Gem twitched a little at that. The professor always seemed to be nice, so damn nice and the girl was saying he could be a bastard? 'Well, well, what do we have here?', she thought with a mental smirk. He knows her really well, huh? Damn, but this girl would have to be either very good at Potions or really bad for the professor to know her and Gem thought that it was the former. She found that she liked it, so she said, "Not many people like cleaning and I am there with you. I don't like to do cleaning at all."

Gem had eyed the room with critical eyes and then walked towards one of the chairs that were there. She had been roaming the corridors for over forty-five minutes and she really was a little weary. She sank into a stiff-looking chair with a sigh. She heard that the girl was commenting on how it would have boring to just wander the corridors and then introduced herself as Eve Diggory. She nodded and half closed her eyes, rubbing her eyes a little. She grimaced a little and said, " Gemini Pucey. And yes, it was boring. But the problem with me was that I had all my work done and had nothing to do with my time. I wasn't in a mood to mingle with my friends and really, it does get sometimes tiring. To go on partying."

Her eyes widened as she said that. She must have been more tired than she had realised, damn it! She quickly straightened up and said, her eyes distressed,"Oh, Merlin! Tell me, I didn't say that!"

If you asked any one of her aquaintances or her friends, they would have said that Gem wasn't a girl that confided in anyone. Oh, she might confide in her brother but not anyone other than him. Her family life wasn't known to anyone but they knew that she wasn't all that fired up with love for them either. In fact, Gem really only trusted her brother, no one else. Her father favored her too much over her brother and her mum favored her son too much over her. She had never really been able to trust them so it was really embarrassing for her to know that in her tired state, she had blurted out something she hadn't even confided in her brother yet.

Well, that told her that Gemini was not a neat freak. That was good, she supposed, on the basis of sharing common interests, but it would have been cool if she had an undesirable urge to clean the dungeon. Then again, she didn’t want someone else doing her work anyway. Hopefully her teacher would just bear with most of it getting cleaned because she definitely did not want to finish this project today. She could always finish tomorrow. Right now she just wanted to relax. Eve was ready to just walk out of here right now and get a drink or something. Or maybe a snack.

She watched the Slytherin sink down into a chair and she stretched out a bit, trying to just chill. She was so used to getting tense and guarded around Slytherins. It was a big change to be sitting here having a civil conversation with one, since she was usually the instigator of a lot of fights. Gemini looked a little tired, like she had gone through too much today. Hadn’t they all… The life of a teenager was rough. Sort of. It depended who you were. Eve actually had it pretty easy.

The girl listened with an attentive ear. She was a great talker, but she could listen too when she wanted to. It wasn’t surprising that she was a bit tired of the partying lifestyle. Who wouldn’t? It just meant that she wanted to chill for a little while. Eve loved having a fiesta as much as the next person, but it could get boring if you did it too often. You needed to take a few breaks; otherwise it wouldn’t be fun anymore. She was just a bit startled that she was sitting here and telling a stranger this. Maybe she just needed someone to talk to. A lot of Slytherins didn’t have ‘real’ friends, she thought. You were always wondering if someone was going to stab you in the back or steal your boyfriend. A laugh that she attempted to stifle escaped her lips at Gemini’s expression after realizing what she had said. “Chill out!”
she advised with another laugh, shaking her head as she moved to the chair next to the girl. “It’s not like you spilled the biggest secret of your life.” She shrugged with a bright smile, messy bun bouncing around as she did so. “I won’t tell, though.” It really wasn’t that big of a thing to tell anyway. She had never found the fun in gossip. It was great to listen to and laugh at, but she never really dished any of it out. That was unnecessary drama that she didn’t need.

As Eve observed Gemini, she figured that this could be a new female friend, or perhaps an acquaintance. She had too many male friends. All of the girls hated her for it. They figured she was a slut or something. But actually, she did want some female company. Sometimes you just needed to talk to someone of the same gender that you could relate to. Guys didn’t exactly know things about clothes (not that she cared) or periods or cute boys.

“Who can be up to party all the time? It’s cool. I won’t tell your friends.” She had to bite her tongue from making another comment along with ‘friends’. While she was getting along with Gemini, that didn’t mean that her friends weren’t complete bitches.

Gem's opinion of cleaning was firm, she thought that cleaning was something that the world could have done without. Of course, if someone really did like to do something that...disgusting, then they were welcome to the task but Gemini was never going to be seen cleaning something. Anything. After all, she was almost the belle of the Slytherin house and no belle ever cleaned anything. At least, not in Gem's mind. She was used to magic so much that when it came to mundane tasks that made magic a poor substitute instead of good old hands, she simply threw a fit. Of course, they had elves for such things but sometimes Gem's mother got it into her head that Gem should do spring-cleaning. It was ideas like those that gave Gem nightmares.

Eve seemed to be of the same opinion, Gem noted, however she wasn't so sure. After all, who would be after only one meeting or so? Gem wasn't one of those stupid people who believed everything and anything that the person in front of you said. That was a sure way of getting yourself in danger. And there was another thing that surprised Gem, she had actually spoken about her partying to an almost complete stranger. Gem didn't know if it was just one time thing or if she should be more cautious about what she blurted out of her lovely, little mouth. Hmph!

She shrugged when Eve told her to chill out, she was, it seemed, forever chilling out that she was bored of chilling out. She wouldn't say that to Eve though, one slip of tongue was enough for one evening, decided Gem. While the girl might not think that it wasn't the biggest secret of Gem's life, it was important to Gem that this little tidbit of news didn't go out of that particular room. She said, her voice low, "Yeah, well, just don't tell anyone about it, alright?"

She had a reputation as a party-girl after all, and who knew what would happen to it if it somehow became known that she was bored of partying. Being a Slytherin had it's advantages but it also had it's disadvantages. While you could be the best there could be in Slytherin, you couldn't be sure to have a real friend and that was Gem's problem. Other than her brother, Gem really didn't bother to confide in anyone and she wanted to. She needed a little female someone who would listen to her insecurities about things and yes, she did have those, who didn't? She was a little relieved to hear that Eve promised not to tell anyone. She thanked Eve and looked pointedly at the table where Eve had been doing her cleaning. Gem didn't know why Eve had got the detention but she meant to find it out. And when she had been about to put that thought in words when she heard the other girl saying that it was kind of hard to be upto partying all the time and in her mind, Gem nodded fervently. It was true, not every damn minute of the day was about partying but sometimes it was hard to drive that point to home.

She decided that the partying had been discussed for more than enough time and threw a question at Eve, "So, why are you here, anyway? I mean I know that you are on some kind of detention but what did you do that made our generally nice professor to hand out a detention? You don't look as if you are dumb and blew something." She leaned forward in her chair, her eyes sparkling with mischief and grinned a little as she said,"Come on, out with it. What did you do?"

She really wouldn’t tell anyone. It didn’t seem like big news in her opinion. Eve could have probably used it to her advantage, though, and she realized this. She could attempt to wreck Gemini’s reputation by saying that she really hated partying and it was all a façade. But what was the point of that? It really didn’t give her any thrill or anything. As long as Gemini didn’t screw her over or go spewing out rumors about herself, then she would keep the little tidbit of information to herself. She doubted that the Slytherin trusted her, though. What reason did she have to? They had just met and barely knew each other. Plus, most snakes had trust issues initially. It seemed like they believed that they were on their own and had no one to rely on but themselves. But Eve couldn’t really talk because she had never been in their shoes. It did seem to fit the stereotype of Slytherins backstabbing each other and only looking out for themselves. In the end, it was sort of beneficial. Trusting other people usually got you in trouble. If all you had was yourself, you were independent and didn’t have to worry about your secrets getting revealed. It was actually easier that way. Still, didn’t you want to have at least one person that you could talk to? She felt like she would explode if she didn’t tell someone about her life. That person was usually her brother, Camden Diggory. She left out anything that would piss him off, though. He still had his ways of finding out.

The Ravenclaw nodded solemnly, strands of hair falling into her eyes. Damn hair. One day she was just going to chop it all of in go bald. It would be a whole lot easier. Guys didn’t understand how hard it was to be a girl. Then again, she wouldn’t trade it for anything. She’d much rather be a female than a male, even though she usually acted like a guy half of the time.

This was an unlikely pair. The gorgeous, Slytherin bitch who secretly seems nice and the tomboy Ravenclaw who could care less about manicures. And she wasn’t too fond of Slytherins. Actually, that wasn’t true. She didn’t have anything against the house in general, it was just that most of the jackasses were snakes, making her dislike a majority of that house. If you were nice to her, then hey, she would return the favor (unless you were being fake nice). As soon as you pissed her off, though, then Eve wasn’t such a happy camper. Her brother was much worse, though. When he got angry, he tended to turn very violent and wild, which was why she tried to stay on his good side. A pissed off Camden was not good.

Seeing Gemini look so eager to hear what she had done, Eve laughed a little. “It wasn’t anything big.”
She shrugged. It really wasn’t. Her Potions teacher was probably her favorite, so she tended to be nicer to him. “I’ve just been late to basically every class since fourth year and he’s just now punishing me for it. Maybe it’s because I turned his hair into a toupee last week.” He had been pretty pissed off about that. It took him three days to re-attach the hair to his head and now he was randomly getting bald spots across his scalp. She didn’t even mean to do it, honestly. She had been aiming for a boy that had been ticking her off class and missed. Oops. “You’ve probably been in detention a million times,” she said thoughtfully, wondering if it was true. She was known to be one of the bad, wild partying girls. But that was just what Eve had heard. She had never actually seen the girl do something crazy. She hadn’t had some insane, irrational fun in a while. If Gemini was really like what people said she was like, then maybe they could get into some mischief together. “I get a lot of them, I guess, just not by him.” The Potions teacher just tended to like her. And no, it was not because he was receiving sexual favors.

“Your brother’s Apollo, right?” Ugh. They both didn’t like each other very much. Eve had met him through Lola, since he was always pestering her about hooking up with him. He was sort of pissed because she was one of the people telling Lola that she would be crazy if she even considered dating him. According to the school, the siblings were partners in crime. But Gemini didn’t seem to act like him. Not yet, at least. She didn’t know her well enough.
