All Englishmen have been kicked out of France after a short-lived peace thanks to the Treaty of Amiens, French émigrés have fled France to seek safe-haven in England, and the rest of the Continent is trying to stop Napoleon from invading their lands. But there is one place in the world that seems as if nothing has happened. Where is that? London, England, of course! Nothing can ruffle the trends of Society. Well Nothing but a good scandal that is. But when has London ever been lacking an interesting scandal? Not since the times before the great Queen Bess, I assure you and at the moment, the London ton lacks nothing. Aside from the usual scandal surrounding the elite of Britain, there have been several hasty marriages made within the past few months; ones for love, ones for reputation, ones for money, and ones for hate. Engagements have been made and engagements have been broken, although this happens every season, but there is also something going on between the younger set of London society this season, its as if something is in the air. More and more of them are looking for that thing that so many people believe does not exist. That thing called love. What is love? Love for a person may not be real, but love for ones country most definitely is, as the new set of flowery spies have proved in recent years. Although the Scarlet Pimpernel and the Purple Gentian have been unmasked, there is yet another brave Englishman who is willing to risk his life for his country, this time a man going by the name of yet another humble flower, the Pink Carnation. And then, of course, there are those who are willing to do the exact same job in London for the enemy, France. And while the men are aspying, the ladies of England are aplanning. Planning, that is, for all of the splendid social fęte that will be held throughout the session, after it, and during the next season! After all, it is never too soon to start planning for an event. Although, perhaps one or two women in London are planning for more than just entertainments? Is it is a shock to learn that one or two women in England even know how to think for themselves? For beneath the jubilation, there are most definitely some sharp minds and barbed tongues, planning for politics, both social and global. And speaking about global, lets go to the east of England a bit, towards the lovely island of Ireland. Yes, the Ireland where the people want their freedom and are testy. Getting more crotchety daily, in fact, and those who are in the know fear that the French will try to aid the Irish in a rebellion against Mother England and then sail French ships from France to attack England. And this cannot be allowed to occur. Yet somehow, all of this and more have happened in the past for it is what we all know as Masque History.
